2. I had concerns about my very expnensive landscaping aroung the house, and some special plants and roses I had brought in from my mother's South Dakota home when she passed away. Those things can't be replaced. They took careful steps to protect the plants, and even had to do quite a bit of tree triming I had not consider would have to be done.
3. I was also very impressed by how neat they were each day, and the fact that they cleaned up so well you would have never even known they were here at all.
4. The most impressive thing that they did though was the amount of nails used on the shingles. The 50 year insurance that came as part of our deal required 4 nails per shingle. They got to experience firsthand the kind of wind we have out here, and they used 5 nails per shingle and on some spots more. We went up to check after they left for the day on the second day, and they did all that was promised.
5. There was some kind of mix up on my address on getting the 50 year insurance, but it came, and if anything happens to this roof, it is covered. We had this roof completely done in 2002, and it was guaranteed. The contractor disspeared and we had no recourse when the poorly done roof failed. This time, we have that covered.
6. We are very pleased and would highly recommend A&B Roofing.
They were ready to go within a few days of receiving our down payment. They requested 20% down. The crew was quick and orderly. They didn't leave one scrap of material or nails from the old roof. (I looked. We have little kids, and a nail in the foot - not good).
About two or three weeks after they installed the solar tube lighting (which is awesome, by the way...highly recommended) the reflective tubing which connect from the roof to the ceiling became detached. We called them and came out the next business day. They fixed it without charge.
I would recommend them highly.
"Thanks for your nice review."
"I am glad you like your new roof thanks for the review."
"Thanks"
I couldn't be happier with A&B Roofing. They were prompt, professional, and we will definitely use them in the future for any of our roofing needs.
Help for future reference: I neglected to cover areas under skylights and had some dust and plaster material fall into the room when prep work was being done for new installations.
plus gutters and soffits. They also installed a ridge cap.
GAF Shingles = $5,050. ($200 more than CertainTeed which is also an option).
Gutters = $575 (for 83 linear feet).
Soffits (20 3-inch) = $400.
I have a small, two bedroom house (1940) with approximately 1,000 square feet on the main floor with a 300 foot mudroom addition.
The two man crew (Mike and Joe) had to install the gutters over crown molding along the bottom edge of the roof which took longer than they anticipated. I also asked them to extend the downspout on the gutters an extra foot AND hinge the extension so I could flip it up in order to mow under it during the summer. Part way through the job, it started to snow and they promptly covered the roof with tarps. After several days they started roofing again.
I have a bay window on the front of the house which has an angular roof line, kind of like three slices of pie coming together if you were to look down on it. This was challenging to roof over but Mike came up with a great solution using the existing shingles rather than installing ridge top shingles on the seams. (A little difficult to explain but they did a great job.)
Other than a few small scraps of the old tar paper, I found their cleanup to be immaculate.
I also asked them to connect exhaust tubing for the bathroom fan out through the roof since it had been venting into the attic. This cost me an additional $200 (not included above) but was well worth it.
Whenever I phoned Mike on my cell, he picked up and answered all my questions with professionalism and courtesy.
The final price came in right on bid.
All in all, A&B did a great job, both on the roof and in keeping me updated throughout the job. I would definitely choose them for another job.
A week later after coming to our house to give us a bid, A&B called back to ask if we had any questions. We decided to wait until the fall to do the roof, but asked them to check back in September. They called back in September, and we said we did have a few questions. They set an appointment to come to the house the next day. They answered all our questions, and are helping us to file a claim based on some defective shingles in a class action suit. They also agreed to remove a skylight an install a new smaller version. We decided to use them and paid a deposit and they gave us an estimated start date. They were actually able to start a week earlier than they estimated. Although the job required several more days than they thought it would, they worked hard and came in on budget. They were good with cleanup, and even went to the neighbors yard to run the magnets to make sure they got all the roofing nails. We are extremely pleased with them.
