My kitty passed away at home after 16 years. He was a very dear member of our family. It was the weekend and the crematory's normal business hours are Monday-Friday. I was able to take my kitty to the local pet emergency clinic for holding until they could get him.
I received a phone call that night from a representative from the crematory. She gave her condolences (Very sweet woman :) and she asked what my wishes were for my kitty. (Mass cremation or private) I opted for private, which does cost more but, it was important to me that I got my own kitty back.
She continued to explain they would come and pick him up from the vet clinic the following day and I would be able to pick him up from the crematory or the vet clinic the following Thursday. I chose to pick him up at the clinic.
When I came to get him, I was terribly sad. After all, 16 years, its hard too say goodbye. I was so pleased when I received him. They had put him in a beautiful little wooden box with his name on the bottom. It was beautiful.The loss of him was so hard to deal with and having such loving people to care for him after his passing, made it so much easier.
