DOGWOOD LODGE KENNELS

I completely trust Jim to give good, safe care to my Boxers whenever I have to leave town. I would recommend his service without hesitation.

I was traveling on business and was looking for someone to care for my bernese puppy. One of the local vets recommended Dogwood Lodge so I went for a visit. The Lodge, really a fancy name for a standard kennel was in a quiet area outside of town which was wonderful since my puppy has not, as of yet had much experience with urban life. Since no one was at the front desk I rang the bell and waited. No lights, customers, or employees could be found in any part of the facility even though I came during business hours. After several minutes the owner came to greet me. He seemed annoyed that I came to visit, even though I called ahead, however he was very helpful. He answered my questions and took me on a very brief tour of the facility. It seemed a bit prison like on the inside. All the lights were off, even in the kennel area though it was about 4:30pm when I stopped by. The kennels and outside run areas were very small and as the owner explained there would be no real interaction with humans by the dogs while they were there. Contact would be limited to feeding and moving from kennel to run area only. Although it was an impressive kennel (clean, well maintained, top quality equipment) and the prices were typical for the area, it was very cold. Even the owner, although very knowledgeable and helpful, very cold.
