On 08/03/2013 I entered the Carpet Garage located in Helena, Montana. I picked out carpet for my home and paid for that carpet in full. I also picked out ceramic tile for my home. The tile I decided on was not completely in stock at the Helena store and had to be shipped from Great Falls. I paid $500 to carpet garage for the tile and specifically told the manager (Ron) that my contractor would be in that afternoon to pay for the balance of the tile and to pick up what they had in stock. I also specifically told Ron that I had already given my contractor the money for materials because this was an insurance claim for damages caused to my home during a burglary. I have a witness who was present for this conversation and Ron acknowledged remembering this conversation when I spoke to him on Friday. Later that afternoon, my contractor arrived at Carpet Garage to pick up and pay for the tile. However, instead of paying for the tile, my contractor asked Ron to hold a personal check for him for the balance of the tile because he was "moving some money around". Even though I had advised Ron the contractor would be in to pay the full balance of the tile, Ron agreed to hold a personal check on behalf of my contractor for the tile I picked out earlier in the day. Several weeks passed and the check given to Carpet Garage for my tile was never cashed. I was never notified of this arrangement and that tile was listed under my invoice. To make a long story short, the contractor was fired from my residence. He returned to my home, stole the remaining tile that had yet to be installed and returned it to Carpet Garage. Carpet Garage returned the check to the contractor and accepted the tile as a return. Law enforcement is involved and the tile that was stolen from my home is now at the Carpet Garage. Admittedly, Carpet Garage broke one of their own policies by allowing product to leave their store unpaid for and now I have to repurchase the tile to complete my repairs.
