I have to preface this review by saying I have used Big Sky Plumbing for the past 22 years with great results. However, this time, they were the worst contractor I have ever used.

They were 3 weeks late starting the job. I kept hearing my small job was difficult for them to find carpenters who were willing to do such small jobs.

The carpenter they sent would never tell me when he was going to work. I had to call him and then he would give me a three hour window. When he did show up, he'd stay less than an hour and be on the phone the entire time, booking new jobs and leaving my job to work on others. I called and spoke to Doug about how long the job was taking and about the flaky carpenter. Again, I was told me job was so small, it was hard to get a carpenter and the plumbers couldn't do their job until the carpenters came in.

In the meantime, I moved out of the house. I had it rented and could not allow renters to move in as the bathroom wasn't finished. I lost a month's rent.

A week after I moved out of the house, I went back to check on the job. The front door had been left wide open for at least 3 days during a cold snap. Luckily, nothing was stolen or vandalized. I called and was told that the manager had checked with both the plumbers and carpenter said they locked the door so, perhaps I left it open. To add insult to injury, little progress had been made and the crew had created a huge mess. They didn't cover the carpet on the stairs, had tools scattered everywhere and cardboard and waste in the formal living room. As a result, I had to hire someone to clean up their mess as well as the carpets.

I fired them and hired both a carpenter and plumber to finish the job. I found out from the new plumber that the Big Sky Plumbers had created a leak in the toilet when they moved it and that they did not perform work that was up to code. The manager of Big Sky Plumbing was furious I hired my own crew and ranted about me breaking the contract and doing my own thing. I refused to pay for the charges outside of the down I had already paid, he would not provide me with a time and materials account and threatened to take me to collections.

Bottom line, I will never use them again and they don't care.

Response from Bigskyguys.com
"Very little about your member (Member name removed) complaint is factual. However, we do appreciate that she has been satisfied with our service for the past 22 years. We received the required down payment from (Member name removed) on September 29, 2014 and were on the job two days later. So saying we were three weeks late is an inaccuracy to say the least. No completion date was ever given by (Member name removed). She was uncomfortable with our carpenter at first glance and commented that she did not think she could trust him in her home. This carpenter happens to be my adoptive brother and he also happens to be one of a handful of African Americans in Helena. His work is excellent and he is very trustworthy. Her immediate bias was disturbing. The unlocked door had nothing to do with us. There was no communication from (Member name removed) about having to move out and losing rent money whatsoever. This is a non-issue. We were never “fired”. She made a decision to hire another carpenter after we had stared the work. We only discovered this when we went to the project to pick up a few tools and clean up. She also hired an unlicensed handyman to finish her plumbing which we had very nearly completed already. (Member name removed) did breach our contract. In addition to that, she neglected to inform you that we credited her nearly half of the original contract amount. After nearly 90 days of non-payment, we contacted her for payment of the balance and she refused to pay any more than the original down payment. It was at this point we informed her that we would have no choice but turn this bill over to our collection service. Her claim for $1,000 more is absurd! We honestly do not care if (Member name removed) hires us again as this is not the type of customer we are looking for. The idea of threatening to “ruin us via social media” is total slander. Is this what Angie’s List is all about? I sincerely hope not. Our reputation is sound and has been for over 30 years. We process an average of 20 service calls a day and have never been involved with this type of a social media attack It is very disappointing to me that I am sitting here trying to defend our reputation because of a person with no ethical or moral sense. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Zach Pallister-President"

I have used the Big Sky Guys for more than 20 years. They are honest, reasonably priced, efficient, and clean up after themselves. I have had to call them three times for emergencies and they respond quickly. I have never had an issue having them in my home or rental property.

I highly recommend them.

Please see my review of 1/5/15. I will NEVER use them again.
