Marielle Schmidt and her family have boarded our somewhat timid German Shorthair for years when we have been out of town. Their new facility has lots of large indoor/outdoor runs with radiant heated floors and a nice fenced play area for dogs who get along with others. Every dog gets lots of attention and play time, thanks also to their two daughters and even our Emma enthusiastically follows Marielle into the kennel building. Although they're a little out of town (East of Missoula at the Rock Creek exit), their prices are very reasonable and the kennel is always clean and tidy. She does provide pickup and drop off services for a small fee for folks in town although we've never needed that. She is also an internationally recognized dog trainer and was featured in a BBC documentary when she spent a month in India working with a local village to train their dogs to protect the villagers from man eating tigers when they were in the woods collecting wood or honey. She seems to have this Goddess status with dogs, they just live to please her from little Pappions to huge Labs - it's the wildest thing to watch. Marielle is usually running a mile a minute so don't expect to sit and have idle chit-chat over coffeee but if you want a great kennel with an amazing dog person, Dogwerks is it.
