First time call at 10am on a Monday morning and was given an emergency appt. for 11am. My dog was seen immediately upon arrival. The wonderful people in this office were very kind and understanding of my husband's and my distress. They were very gentle and caring with our dog and he responded well to them. They did several tests, along with x-rays, and diagnosed a few different illnesses, including severe diabetes and a urinary tract infection. He was also given pain medication for an ongoing problem that his previous vet was unconcerned about. (He was given a clean bill of health just six weeks earlier by his previous vet.) We were advised that he could have a larger range of treatment by leaving him overnight but if cost was a concern, they could teach us how to care for him at home. Although cost actually was a concern, we opted to leave him for better care than we could give at home. The vet kept us appraised by telephone of his progress well into the evening, after the vet was closed. By the next afternoon, his blood sugar was stabilized and he was able to come home. He was already acting better than he had in several months. (We had thought he was just slowing down because he is getting older now - large dog at 9 1/2 yrs old. Remember - he was given a clean bill of health six weeks earlier by a previous vet.) By the day after that, he was acting just like he used to when he was younger! We have our baby back! We could not be more thankful to all of the folks at Highlands. I'm just sad that I caused him probably a year or better of his not feeling well by taking him to the wrong vet.  Oh and by the way, the emergency appt at Highlands actually cost less than the regular appt at the previous vet! This is his regular vet from now on.
