"Dear [member name removed], I am wondering if you have us mixed up with another veterinary practice because our records indicate a much different story than what you have stated above. Teddy’s medical record states that on 1/27/12 [member name removed] called to get a refill of ear medication and she did not know the name of it. We called [member name removed] and told her that we need to do a physical exam on Teddy before we could prescribe medication. We have to know what type of ear infection your dog has before we can give you medication, especially since it had been nearly a year since we had last seen him. If we were to prescribe the wrong medication, it could potentially cause harm to your pet, including hearing loss. [member name removed] expressed financial constraints and requested we not update vaccinations but do an exam, ear cytology, and ear medications. A physical exam was done, Teddy’s ears were flushed and treated, and you went home with two ear medications. You stated that you didn’t get the medication, but you did leave our office with both of the medications. What you did not pay for was $14.30 for the ear cytology. We mailed statements showing this balance on 2/23/12, 3/23/12, 4/23/12 and 5/23/12. Past due notices were mailed 3/27/12, 4/3/12, and 4/17/12. A final letter was mailed 6/19/12. On 7/1/12 your account was turned over to Centron Services for collection. Not once during that time was there any communication with you and our office regarding the charge or our fees. On 5/7/13, 10 months after your account was turned over for collection, we received a faxed Letter of Demand from you requesting proof of the charges. I responded that day stating that you had to direct your requests for information to Centron Services, Inc. as the hospital is not a party to the litigation. Centron generally does not file a lawsuit for collection of a small amount owed on our behalf. They most likely combined all of your debts to file suit for collection. That is why you must direct your requests to them. Sincerely, Jodi Peretti Practice Manager"
