Last month, while Matt was cleaning, I told him I would like to schedule regular monthly cleanings. He was enthusiastic and told me his availability. I called him the next week to solidify, and he said he would send me an email confirmation. When the email arrived, it was a quote for cleaning priced 56% higher than what we had been paying (up to $195 from $125). I inquired about this apparent mistake, and was then informed that they were raising their rates, and that they "had been meaning to speak to me about it since the summer." No mention of this had accompanied the email, and the main rationale seemed to be that their business has grown. Nicki also said that they had been "mistakenly" charging me too little.
I don't know what Matt and Nicki's intentions were, but raising rates so significantly and unexpectedly, without communication or rationale, is disingenuous and cowardly. We are very disappointed. I would have been willing to pay a bit more if they had spoken to me directly rather than trying to sneak in a rate increase. Clearly, they have serious management and organization problems. This awful customer service, coupled with the other problems we have had over the prior year, has led us to discontinue our business with Mister Green Clean. I cannot do business with someone I don't trust - and that is particularly true for someone cleaning my home.
"This client was initially quoted a deep clean rate and a regular cleaning rate. Rather than sign up for regular service, he called us infrequently (every 3 months or so) and we honored a regular cleaning rate for him as he insisted this is what he had been told he would be charged. We took a financial loss on each cleaning, as it was unclear where the initial confusion began and we wanted to be fair. After cleaning his large home, which was quite dirty, a handful of times over the course of year we determined we could no longer continue at the rate he was quoted without a regular schedule. We offered him service our standard hourly rates, which all of our customers now pay. He responded with a long email calling Matt a "coward" for not calling him to discuss the change and instead providing him with a detailed email with estimates for biweekly and monthly services. We apologized profusely for any misunderstandings. We also offered to work within his budget by limiting services to a certain pre-determined amount of time. As for the client's mention of checks and cash, we no longer offer a cash discount. Check prices have always been the same regardless of who the check was made out to. Initially, they could be written to Matt or to the company, due to our business structure. We have since transitioned to an LLC and we prefer checks be written to Mister Green Clean. Cash is always welcome and credit card payments can be made online. It is unfortunate that this client's feelings were hurt by the rate increase, as he seemed very happy with our services. It is interesting that he rated our quality as a C as he reported a high level of satisfaction during the year we cleaned his house. It is true that one of our crew inadvertently swiped his TV screen with a cloth that had furniture polish on it. Nicki immediately remedied the situation and the client reported he was quite happy with the result. His attempt to insult Nicki by calling her "surly" is likely due to his inability to intimidate her. In most cases we would offer a new attempt to work with this client, but in our years of service, this is one of the only ones we were happy to see go. He made our cleaning crews uncomfortable and seemed to enjoy humiliating and intimidating young hardworking individuals and treating them like "servants." In one case he asked that CLEAN granite countertops be wiped SIX different times before he finally admitted that flaws in the stone were causing them to look streaked. His own wife apologized to us for her husband's behavior. We appreciate the compliments this client gave to Matt. Mister Green Clean started with Matt and he remains a favorite cleaner for many of our customers."
"We appreciate and value our customer reviews. We make most of our own cleaning products and they are 100% non-toxic. When we do purchase a product, we carefully evaluate it for safety and effectiveness. Simple Green is not a product we use. I cleaned this particular house myself and the only scents this client should have noticed were lavender and tea tree oil. Only the kitchen and baths were cleaned in this home per the customer's request, and they were all mopped and polished dry entirely by hand. This job took approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete (kitchen, 1 small bath, 1 large bath), which is typical for us, though perhaps some extra time was necessary due to substantial grease build up and dog hair. We strive to provide 100% satisfaction, and while I wish this client had mentioned her concerns during her visit so that we could re-clean any areas she was unsatisfied with, we would be happy to refund her money."
