We had received a bid from another provider, and the approach was business like, but the price was high and there was not a lot of warmth. The person who came did not bring a demonstration unit.
Big Sky Exterior was doing siding in our neighborhood, and one of the people from the company stopped by to ask if we needed to have any work done. We had painted siding recently, but we were interested in having them propose replacing windows. An appointment was set up.
We liked the approach of Big Sky Exterior, They had a demo unit for the double hung window, and they took a great deal of time to fully understand our needs and answer questions. We really liked the video that was shot after we decided to go ahead and put down deposit. They highlighted the video when meeting with us. The purpose of the video is to help the people who will work on the project be better prepared when they come onsite. The client can also view it and comment, because it is posted on YouTube. The video does not replace the need to be present and provide guidance, but it does pre-empt some issues and minimize guesswork. This is very valuable.
We did research on the windows that Big Sky uses. The quality is very good. We are very pleased with the installation and with the windows, now that they are installed. The installation was very well done. There is a lot of detail work, and this was completed. They did not cut corners. The exterior appearance is crisp, and internally, we can feel the difference between the old and new windows. Everyone at Big Sky was skilled, friendly, responsive, and professional. We are very satisfied.
"Our customers are put on the schedule with Microsoft Project. The schedule is updated weekly and all of our customers are contacted weekly as changes in the schedule occur. One of our windows installation teams fell behind on schedule. Their project was moved to a different install team. The customer was asked if this was ok and at the time it was not a problem for the customer. If it would have been, we would have moved someone else on the schedule that had a more flexible schedule and not this customer. Unfortunately the customer did not understand the whole frame out process. Their specific type of window, that was replaced, had a sloped wooden sill. It is common practice to shim the bottom of the opening so no siding has to be cut out with a circular saw exposing the existing brittle siding to chipping and damage. The exterior window trim can then be to installed to the existing siding edge. Since their windows had a sloped sill, the bottom shim brought the window to the existing sheet rock edge on the interior of the home. The windows that we used were no smaller (glass area) than the windows that we removed. We install approximately 1500 windows per year and have been certified by Simonton, our manufacturer, several times over the last 13 years. Simonton is one of the largest window manufacturers in the United States and have been ranked by JD Power as the best window in the United States 6 out of the last 7 years. When our company makes a mistake we will make it right. We are more than happy to give out hundreds of names and addresses of happy customers within eastern Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota."
