"For the record, I was called to do this emergency work of wiring a new electric hot water heater on December 2, 2014. I completely rearranged my schedule to accommodate this emergency call as the night temps were in the single digits and day temps in the teens. My estimated cost was $750 and in the end the owner paid $700 (invoice as proof). The owner's gas water heater had failed and the plumber would only install an electric water heater in the crawl (a builder or plumber's code). There were significant obstacles to running the wire between the electrical panel and electric meter (both on the south end of the house) and the crawl location where the water heater was located (on the north end of the house). The home had a split-level construction between the power sources and the water heater. The room in between the two locations which I needed to run wire, was completely finished and occupied by the owner. There were three different routes discussed with the owner with the various differences in prices. The first was to do all the needed electrical work within the house which would have required cutting approximately a 15-20 foot x 6 inch track of sheet rock out of the occupied and finished room in order to install the wire in a concealed fashion. This would also have required sheet rock repair and repainting. The second option was to use a pre-finished surface product called wire-mould which would have been installed on top of the interior finished surfaces. These two options would have taken more time, more repairs and would have resulted in 2-3 times more the cost. The third option, which the owner chose, was running 1/2" (paintable) conduit on the exterior backside of the house and backside of the roof, in order to accommodate the structural obstacles and provide code-worthy and safe wire installation to power the electric water heater. The owner chose the quickest and most economical route which was doing the exterior conduit run. The roof was snow covered and icy. I cleared the conduit route of snow and ice on the roof as best as possible, yet these were very hazardous conditions to work in. Due to the cold weather and icy roof, there was no appropriate way to solidly secure the treated lumber spacers used to elevate the conduit 1 1/2" off the roof. The conduit was secured to the wood spacers with one-hole straps and screws. The securing of the spacers to the roof can only be done in non-icy, dry and warmer roof and weather conditions, which I was planning on doing when the weather permitted. All my electrical work was completed in one day and was done 100% according to 2014 National Electrical Code. At the project's completion the owner expressed her gratitude with smiles and thank you's. Until this review was posted, I had no other notification of displeasure with my work from the owner. I would have appreciated a call to discuss any changes that occurred."
He labeled everything for us very clearly and he is fantastic with our dogs!
