We were fairly new to this town and did not know who to trust. We called Renick Plumbing to replace an outside water spout. I had already carved out the brick around the pipe trying to fix it myself. They came right out the next morning. The man took a look and told us what we needed to fix the problem. Sounded very simple. He was only here for about 10 min., when the office called and told him to go to an apt. emergency job. He did NOT do any work and NEVER came back. The next day we received a Bill for $198 dollars for work that was NEVER done. After calling the office and explaining what took place ( which they should have know) they said to disregard the bill.
3 years later (time flies) we decided to try again to get it fixed. Forgetting who we had called the first time, I ended up calling them again. They sent someone out the next day (once he arrived it dawned on me that they were the same company I had called the first time). While he was fixing it I pulled out the old bill to remind myself what the charge would be. He carved a little more brick away, supplied and replaced the short pipe, spout with shut off valve and replaced mortar around pipe. ( damaged faucet was right outside the kitchen sink) Took him less than half hour to fix. Tried to collect $407.55 for the same work they billed $198 for a few years prior. I understand inflation, but double? We placed a call to the office and complained. In the end they did lower the bill to $250 which was agreed upon.
We have found that you have to be careful in Tupelo when ever doing business. This is not the first business to just down right try to cheat you. (read review for Room to Room and Adair Carpet)

Two toilets needed fixed; one ran and the other required double flushing. Plumber told me the easiest thing was to just replace the insides of both. I agreed. 45 minutes later he was done and I was handed a bill for $294.95. I was stunned, but gave the guy a check.
Next day I called and talked to the owner and asked for an itemization of the bill. He made excuses so I had low expectations. A week later I called back and requested the itemization again. After a month went by I filed a complaint with the BBB of MS. Renick didn't respond to them either. After another month went by I contacted the BBB to inform them that without a response I was ready to contact the State of Mississippi Attorney General's Consumer Affairs Office. The BBB emailed me that Renick would respond by the end of the week.
A few days later I received a check for $75 with an invoice itemized as follows:
Hours Worked 1 hour (it was actually 45")
Service Charge 95
Material 40
Labor 85
Tax 15.95
Total $235.95
So, he couldn't account for the $75. Even with the adjustment I feel, especially as a woman living here alone, that I was gouged.
