System ran well after service and was much quieter indoors. He also gave me a very detailed quote to replace my system with a new high efficiency unit. I was offered finance options and informed of possible rebates from our local power company.

The project was a success, and the savings of between $150 and $200 per month on our electric bill will pay off the additional expense (over a conventional system) within a few years. The system includes a domestic water loop that recovers heat from the A/C compressor and sends it to our hot water heater, providing water preheated to 130 deg F as a byproduct of heating/cooling the house. Since it was near time to replace our water heater, we bought a new one, and used the old one as a storage tank for this preheated water, giving us about 100 gallons of hot water for the five to six adults who wash clothes, take showers, etc. This and quot;freeand quot; hot water is another bonus of the system.
For those who want details, there is more heat available for water during hot or cold seasons, because the compressor runs more during those seasons. During the Fall and Spring, with moderate average temperatures, the unit does not come on just to provide us preheated water. If we anticipate a lot of people needing to shower about the same time (e.g., Sunday mornings before going to church), we sometimes raise or lower the thermostat a degree or two, to get the additional hot water.
