Mike Huckaby was here on time daily, stayed on site, did not leave for other jobs, supervised a good crew with good rapport and no upsets, listened to my suggestions and had many good creative ideas of his own, economized where possible, stayed on budget, and finished jobs in a timely manner. Excellent work.

Mike has done many jobs for us. He comes out quickly to give us estimates. He brings his crew with him and they get on with the job. He has always finished the job in a timely fashion. All is cleaned up and finished when they leave. The skylight is great, no leaks. The deck is great, he put a little design in it to make it look good. Overall good experiences.

We had an accident and the wind blew off one of our shingles. I called them, he said I'll send someone over and they will do it for free. He also remodels. It was very nice. It was on the 2nd story of our house. They had to climb up 2 levels to get to it. I give them high ratings and would use them in the future.

The Hardie board shingle runs vary in quality, failing to keep alignment passing some windows, varying in amount of overlap, and in one or two places evidently glued on upside down. The requested two coats of paint were explained as an initial brush-on followed by roller work, but it was done at the same time, so the 2-coat claim is highly questionable. The new roof is OK except for being able to see inside the house through one eave. The roofing shingle line varies from flush with flashing to an inch or so overhang. It otherwise seems solid, and we had no leaks to date. Another contractor advised us that the basic framing of the porch (4 x 4) as constructed would twist and warp without knee-high and head-high cross braces, which we had the contractor reluctantly add. I'm not convinced they knew what they were doing; I just accepted what I was first told by them. Others have since verified that the supports would have been twisted by moisture and sun. The relocation of the entrance was well-done, except for having to add an underbrace on the new double door transom that was not provided. The relocations of the windows was interesting. In one re-done run of five adjacent windows we were advised by another contractor that the support lintel should have been continuous; as done it is a lintel for four windows and one window. The three windows in the new over-porch room had plaster-poured sills (we later had the windows wood trimmed). The closet in the new room was built 19" deep and we later tore it out completely and it is now 24" deep (spec). Only three of the many new outlets worked when the contractor was 'finished'. The contractor could neither fix it nor explain; another real electrical contractor fixed it all. The wallboard and 'mud' work in new areas was not to spec. This became obvious when painting. It was in part redone and all re-sanded. In general around new windows and in all new construction areas, the fit and finish was marginal to bad. We also suspect that in some wiring the joins are twisted wire and not junction boxes, but the locations are hidden now by wallboard. Replacing the outside lights was a comedy, with big covers behind lights needed to hide the 'ax work.' My spouse is a business interior designer (and has supervised many hospital remodels). She made a punch list and had a number of sessions with contractor. Contractor interest diminished rapidly, and finally calls were not answered; promises to visit when reached never occurred. To add final insult to injury, contractor and other subs were overheard in local businesses commenting on us by name and our 'unreasonable demands.' In more specific terms, we were identified in public as 'crazy' and 'nuts.' We've spent about $12,000 or so in rework. In fairness, change or add orders were plentiful, but we paid.
