After inspecting the MRI and hearing about my injury, Dr. Jordan opined that i had a complete separation of the supraspinitus ligament from the head of the humerus. I also had a bone spur that was weakening the ligament and a partial tear of the infraspinatus ligament.. There was a little arthritis and the labrum and biceps tendon were intact and undamaged.
I was still weak in certain movements and still had trouble sleeping. More important to me however was the news that I would never be much of a weightlifter again, play judo or sail safely. By the time I made the appointment I had already decided to have surgery, after the appointment, I was comfortable I had made the right decision. I wanted to have the operation on a Monday and Dr. Jordan scheduled me in the out patient ambulatory care OR, in-between two total joints that he was doing that day in the main OR. I live a few minutes from the hospital so I waited at home doing some light housework and walking the dogs until they called me to come over. Dr. David Pennington the anesthesiologist did a "scalene block" which put my arm asleep for nearly 24 hours. I was wheeled into the OR at 1:00. I was awake and heading home by 4:30.
Recovery was been very smooth. My wife started physical therapy right away (more light housework) I plan to be back on the job a week after surgery.
