Description of Work: Tony was pleasant to work with and came out quickly and on time. He faxed me a written quote and performed the work as scheduled. I had called Tony to solve a problem of leakage coming through the bricks of our fireplace during heavy rains. Tony quoted $1,070 to re-flash around the chimney plus do some other preventive maintenance to other parts of the roof. During Hurricane Isaac, water leaked at the fireplace exactly as before. Tony then came out and told me that the problem is cracks in the mortar that he would caulk with mortar caulk for $175. He seemed to think it acceptable that his thousand dollar solution fell short, and that I should pay more to give him another chance to solve the problem. I will try caulking the mortar myself but I doubt that is going to be the ultimate solution.

Description of Work: Squirrels had eaten the lead from an attic vent pipe. TJ's charged me around $65.00 to replace the vent pipe with a plastic one and repaired the water damage that had started. Excellent and professional service. Very quick on responses and service.

Caulked as necessary to prevent any leak unti chimmneyl flashing was replaced, and valley shingle work completed Highly satisfactory work and experience.
Description of Work: Chimmney flashing needed replacing along with some minor valley repair to correct dip in shingles. Rain caused delay, but Tony caulked flashing to prevent any leak until replaced. On several trips he called each time to advise his schedule, and was right on time each trip. His pricing was excellent, and he also arrived with the tools and products to accomplish the work. On initial visit he volunteered local references, and explained what work he had dome for others. This was a very pleasant experience.

Wednesday morning (Sept 7th) Tony showed up at 6:45 in the morning with his assistant Jeff. Jeff has been working with Tony for over 18 years and quickly gained my confidence in his abilities. Tony said they would work on the western most dormer first, finish it and then do the other dormer on Wednesday. When they started they quickly found why I was having problems with leakage in the areas where I was having them. I had had a new roof put on just before Katrina, using 100 year GAF Timberlane shingles and had had the dormers rebuilt at the time. The builder, who had subbed out the roofing job, was apparently more concerned with the way the roof looked than how it worked and had instructed the roofer to cover the flashing with shingles in front of the dormer so the flashing wouldn't be seen. Since I had no idea that that wasn't the way it shouldn't be done I was happy with the way it looked...just not the way it turned out. As Tony pointed out to me, if water got trapped in the flashing it had no where to go except under the shingles and any little opening in the felt would allow it to enter the attic. Tony and Jeff stripped all the siding off the dormer and stripped the shingles just far enough out where they could replace only what needed to be done. They used a rubberized material under the flashing (aluminum, not galvanized), replaced the shingles, replaced the siding and then caulked everything so all I would have to do would be paint. They also stripped the siding off the second dormer and put tar paper up in preparation for the work on Thursday. When they came down for the day I asked if they could take down the chimney and roof over where it was. We have a ventless gas fireplace and a chimney isn't necessary and removing it would reduce any chance of a leak...and make it a heck of a lot easier on me because now I wouldn't have to paint it, standing on the steep part of the roof. Thursday, Tony and Jeff again showed up at 6:45 with another worker, Roger. Roger is an old school carpenter, measure twice, cut once. They had to jack up the second dormer to replace the rotted particle board that formed part of the roof. Apparently the dormer wasn't tied into a rafter on the bad side so they had to reinforce it by scabbing in some 2X4's from the rafter after they replaced the bad roofing wood. When that was complete, Tony went to work on the flashing and shingles for the dormer while Jeff and Roger tackled the chimney. By 1 o'clock everything was complete, all the trash removed and they even blew off the dust and small wood chips from the roof. Right now I am totally satisfied and hope I will be for many, many years. I can't compliment this crew any more than I have...they were on time, kept busy, finished on time and, to my inexperienced eye, did a excellent job. I would not hesitate to recommend them as a group, or as individuals, to work on a project. Two thumbs up!
Description of Work: During Tropical Storm Lee (Labor Day Weekend 2011) our roof started leaking around the dormers...again! After taking some buckets up to the attic to keep any more drips from soaking the ceiling I decided something had to be done and done soon. On Labor Day (Monday) I read through Angie's List for "roofers" and found TJ's at the top. Although the latest grade was only for an estimate (a 'C' for a higher than expected estimate) I was more impressed by what they said about his responsiveness so I decided to call. Tony answered the phone, said he was going to be out on a call in my area and would see me a little later that afternoon. An hour later he called, said he was on the way and then showed up shortly afterward. We looked over the roof, I showed him where it was leaking (and discovered a rotten place in the roof) , we discussed what I wanted done and he gave me a price and said he would be able to start on Wednesday.

TJ's was very responsive to my request for an estimate to repair a leak on my back porch roof (18x10). His estimate was $1819 for this small area. The next estimate I received for the exact same procedure and material was $875. Needless to say, I did not go with TJ's based upon the big difference in estimates.
Description of Work: I only had an estimate for roof repairs. This company did not do any work for me, so I cannot comment on the quality of the work. I can only comment on the "estimate" I was given for the work to be performed.

The roof on our Acadian style house had been leaking on and off for years, we have had four other roofers try to fix the leak which we knew was occuring in the general vacinity of the chimney. A contractor friend had told us to ask the roofers about a cricket, which we did each time, but they all said that was not what was needed. A couple of the roofers came back more than once and a couple came back a third time, but ultimately when we called them to say the roof was still leaking in the same place, the roofers stopped taking our calls. We saw TJ on Angies list and called him. He promptly came out thoroughly checked out our roof and chimney, and told us we needed a cricket. TJ installed the cricket, reflashed the chimney, replaced the shingles as needed (he even did the research to find out what type of shingles we had so they would match) he gave us a 1 year warranty and so far, no leak. TJ also recommended we have our chimney repointed, which we plan to have him do as soon as we can afford to do so. TJ has checked back with us several time to see if the job took care of our problem. We would certainly recommend this firm to anyone who needed roof work done.
Description of Work: Installed a "cricket" at the chimney on our roof.

After another company came out several times before refunding my money and deeming the leak unfixable without replacing the whole roof, I was referred to TJ's. He showed up on time and took his time, repairing the roof the right way, not the quick way. Word of advice: If your skylight/dormer is leaking, DO NOT accept a silicone repair job! This is a cheap and temporary solution....if it works at all. TJ replaced damaged shingles and installed flashing that should have been there in the first place. He also guarantees his work. It has been about eight months with no problems. Thanks TJ's!
Description of Work: TJ's Roofing did what other cheaper roofers failed to do.....fix the leak in my skylight/dormer! His quote was a little bit more than others, but he came highly reccomended. He did a fantastic job. The peace of mind that he gave me by FINALLY fixing this leak is worth way more than I paid.

Tony returned my call the same day I called. He came out the next afternoon and inspected the roof, and determined it was not necessary to replace all of the shingles. The problem was caused because the contracter who put the addition on our has did not feather the shingles properly in the valley. He came out the next afternoon and made the repairs. We had a violent thunderstorm last night, and there is no leak. The repair is working. Tony called this morning to see kif the shingle held, and we were happy to report that all is well. As we are happy to reprt to you that TJ's backls up his work. 08/03/2010
Description of Work: Replaced shingles on roof where leak was occuring. This was along a valley where added section had been built. Had recommended only doing this as rest of shingles were in good shape.

Had new roof put on house in June 2006; skylight leaked within two weeks. Original roofing company returned and corrected spot that had not been properly caulked the first time. During a major rain storm in April 2008 the second skylight leaked down a newly painted cathedral ceiling. Tracked down foreman of the original roofing company only to find that company had gone out of business. The foreman did however have a roofer who was doing all the warranty work for the now defunct roofing company. Tony Long was at my house within a day. He discovered that the wrong type caulk had been used to seal around the skylights and it had deteriorated. Tony resealed both skylights. He also suggested since I had such a steep roof with a lot of water running down to the skylights that I should place diverters above them. This would divert most of the water away from the skylights. They work great. Have had no more leaks. Tony even called the next day after we had another rain to see if there were any problems. I have no idea what he would have charged to do this job because the roof was still under warranty. The foreman of the original roofing company paid for the repairs.
Description of Work: Skylight leaked after a major storm. Tony found where skylight had not been properly sealed. He cleaned out around skylights, used correct caulk around both skylights, and replaced shingles removed to get to problem areas. He talked to me and the original roofing company foreman so that he had the right color shingles when he arrived to do the work. With so much rain water coming off the steep roof, he suggested we put diverters,(metal strips above skylights,) to keep most of water away from skylights. Even told me how to get the water stains off my white ceiling.
