Very well. A crew came the afternoon that the damage occurred and placed a blue tarp over the damaged area of the roof. After the adjustor came I decided to have Paul David company replace the roof. The roofing crew arrived when they said they would and completed the work on time.

The PDR roofer, Milton, began replacing shingles on Monday, April 23, 2007. Once the roof shingles had been replaced it appeared wavy or droopy and Mr. Crancer told me this was normal and that the heat from the sun would flatten out the shingles. The shingles that never did flatten out. We were disappointed with the woodwork around the eaves of the house. Every time I met with PDR's foreman, Rick and/or Milton, I told them and they all concurred that there was probably going to be rotten wood that would need to be replaced above and beyond what was in the proposal. We even mutually pointed out many of these flaws and Rick told me that the rotten wood would be removed (not only was the rotten wood not removed but the new wood that was put on top of it was not flush nor were the ends even). On Monday, April 30, I met with Alan Crancer of PDR and his siding guy, Rick. I expressed my concerns to Rick that they would not be able to hit the studs if the old siding was not removed. He assured me that they would remove the damaged siding up to a certain point consistently around the house along the bottom and would be able to see where the studs are. Once they had done that then they would mark where the studs are and use 3 inch nails to penetrate the old siding. When we inspected the progress of work on Saturday, May 5, the siding was not evenly matched at the corners, was not being attached at the studs, there was excessive use of nails in exposed area, and there were gaps everywhere. Also they had not removed the old siding. There were numerous broken corners and PDR s answer to everything was to fill it in with caulk. The did not use galvanized nails which are the standard for exterior work since they don t rust. We called Alan, owner of PDR, and asked him to stop the project until the flaws could be fixed. We met with Alan Monday morning, May 7, and showed him all of the flaws. Alan asked if we could give him one day to correct the problem which he never did. Later I met with Alan again and we talked about fixing the problems. Alan assured me he would take care of everything. The siding contractor that Alan had hired did attempt to repair one wall by re-installing the siding, filling the nail holes with caulk, and adding some wood around the windows to cover the gaps between the siding and the window frames. They did a fairly decent job (although still sub standard) and this would have been acceptable except that they never showed back up after that one day. The windows were installed before the siding began and when they were inspected by us on Saturday, May 5, it was noticeable from the inside that the frames were not level and the windows were improperly and inconsistently installed. There were no drip edges installed along the tops of the window frames, etc... Another problem; the vents on the side of the house were installed but they did not bother to cut a hole in the plywood behind the vents.
