Services we offer
CBK, INC was established in 1986 as a kitchen/bath installer. I worked 4 years in this field before transforming the business into a general contracting company. CBK, INC continues to offer these services along with interior upgrades: basement, home offices, room modifications, custom trim work and exterior upgrades: siding, soffits/fascias, decks upgrades as well as room additions.
During construction, there was an issue with the city codes that the architect did not check out sufficiently, so they had to tear out the floor they had just completed to make the step height to code. This was not really the fault of CBK, but it was difficult as the architect tried to charge me for the cost of this and CBK blamed him, no one seemed to be willing to take responsibility for this. I had never had a problem with the pipes freezing prior to the remodel as they were heated and controlled by a switch that I turned on in November and turned off in May. I asked CBK to install this system and they refused saying that the pipes would not freeze as they had them sufficiently insulated. They did freeze that winter when the temperature fell below 20 on two occasions. They came out and filled some holes and said it was fixed. By then, winter was over. Last winter was warm enough that they never froze. We will see what happens if we have another cold spell. The sink worked but the shower did not when they froze. Since the remodel, I have had consistent issues with the water pressure in the shower. It just gets weaker and weaker to the point now that it is difficult to use. I will say that Kurt was helpful in getting me information and sources for tile and shower marble. I learned a lot from this project and now realize I could get good materials at a cheaper price. Because Kurt thought I was going to do a larger project with him, there were things he tore up that I had difficulty getting him to fix. He replaced the outside columns holding up the bathroom and never fixed the asphalt around the base, leaving just dirt that began to undermine the driveway when it washed away in the rain. They removed trim on the structure and did not replace it even though I asked several times. He said I would eventually reside the house and it would have to come off then. Frankly I was just glad to be done with CBK and the architect. I later completed an addition and kitchen remodel with Tri Square Construction with whom I was very happy.
Description of Work: Gutted and remodeled a bathroom. This bathroom was originally built over the roof of the carriage entrance to my old Webster home. It hangs over the driveway and presented many challenges. I had it gutted and completely redone, removing the tub and relocating the toilet and shower. CBK was referred to me by the architect I was using in planning a more extensive remodel. It turned out that they did not work well together and when CBK bid the final plans, the bid was double what my budget was. This was after the bathroom was completed so I discontinued work with both the architect and CBK.

Response from CBK INC.
It has been two years since CBK, INC completed this remodel through West County Design (WCD), so I am surprised that this has resurfaced. I have always understood Member's complaints with the firm she hired for her bath remodel, and did everything within my monetary limits to assist her with WCD's false promises. I did not sign a contract with Member, so for her to put a cost complaint against my company is poorly directed. I was hired by WCD and did what I was contracted to do, and substantially more, at no additional cost to Member as a professional courtesy following those false promises. Addressing the flooring issue: it was WCD who felt it would be grandfathered in, CBK addressed it and raised it at no additional cost to Member. Addressing the heat tape replacement: it was explained that code would not allow for the same hidden system she had in place. And it was made clear that other options were not going to be paid for. Addressing the water flow: because of the location of this bath along side of a staircase, a flex pipe line was to be used and tied into the existing lines as bid to WCD. The older galvanized lines were corroded and WCD would not address our concerns with Member. Addressing the extensive remodel: WCD set a pre-design price with Member to sell this addition. After CBK submitted its' numbers to them, an inappropriate markup was added by WCD and Member balked. I then worked with another architect, again at no cost to her, to try and make this fit her budget. When we seemed to be getting close to meeting her approval, she unexpectedly walked away. To this day I remain unsure of why she chose to do that without the courtesy of an explanation. As I said, Member did get terrible service from WCD, and CBK went far above the contract they had with WCD to try and satisfy her concerns. Two years later, though I have never received any correspondence from her regarding these new issues, she has chosen this route to express her ongoing dissatisfaction with the quality of service she received from WCD. She is understandably upset with WCD and her agreement with that now defunct company, and I believe it is with them that she should be voicing her dissatisfaction - not CBK, INC. Member, I am truly sorry that you remain dissatisfied with the remodel, but I did everything I was contracted to do and much more to try and rectify what WCD did to cause this dissatisfaction. Please rethink your complaints against my company and put the blame where it is due.

He was very helpful in helping me pick out the materials needed and walking me through the process. The quality of the completed work was excellent. He is a man of his word and he seems to love what he does. His crew was respectful and clean. Everything was done promptly and as he said it would be.
Description of Work: Kurt and his crew gutted a bathroom built on a structure that extends over the driveway. They had to replace the posts that held up one end and then gutted the inside to deal with previous problems and rotted wood.

Response from CBK INC.
CBK, INC appreciates the kind words from the member. In response, the member was very easy to work with as she was willing to listen to direction in the areas that she asked assistance with. The costs of this remodel was handled through the referring architect, representing itself as a Construction Management Company, and after discussions with the member, it seems he took liberties with their company's 'construction management' fee. CBK, INC did not receive all monies owed from the architect, because the scope of work submitted for bidding was not representative of the work the member requested. This was determined once work had started and additional costs were incurred. CBK, INC waived most of these additional costs from the member as she was unprofessionally taken advantage of by the architect.

I could not have been happier with the workmanship, pricing, and professionalism of Kurt Saale and his company. At the time of my first encounter with Kurt, I had recently become a widow and really had no idea who to turn to for the repairs needed to my main residence, let alone for the kitchen remodel. Kurt quickly put me at ease with his courtesy and professionalism. He was very prompt in getting me my initial bid and he even went so far as to encourage me to shop his price to be sure I was comfortable that he was giving me the best price around - that impressed me. His pricing was by far the most reasonable for the work I go - in fact, in the end, the job ended up coming in a little less than the original estimate as he found ways to cut corners for me while still providing excellent work. Throughout the process he pointed out little things I had not considered - I felt truly comfortable with him doing this work for me - never once felt that he would try to take advantage of my situation financially. At what was a difficult time for me, he put me at total ease and I knew that the work would be done correctly, promptly and at a more than fair price. That was VERY important to me at that time and is still important to me. I have since recommended CBK to many of my friends and family, and those that have proceeded with their remodels/repairs have all been as satisfied with their projects as I have been and several of them have already recommended CBK to their other friends and family. One other thing that really impressed me about Kurt and how he handled my business, was that he was ALWAYS willing to take time to answer my questions. He never made me feel like I was bothering him. He took whatever time was needed to be sure that I was totally comfortable in my understanding of everything that went on throughout the process. The customer service was definitely a huge plus for me!
Description of Work: CBK, Inc. did a kitchen remodel, electrical updating and some outdoor structure install and repair for me at my main residence. The kitchen remodel included cabinets, flooring, reworking of the plumbing, ceiling fan install, and other repairs/enhancements. This job also included updating electrical supply to the home - a 1950's home with a need for upgrading of electrical supply. CBK, Inc. also did repair work to my detached garage and built an arbor in my backyard. Additionally, the owner, Kurt Saale, coordinated purchase/install of a new central heating/cooling system and a new water heater. While performing these repairs he also pointed out other minor things that needed repair/updating and provided that work at very little extra cost to me from what was in the original bid. Because I was so happy with CBK's work and professionalism, I also contacted him to do some minor kitchen remodel - moving of some cabinets, new lighting install, ceiling fan repair, and drywall repair, at my country place in Southeast Missouri. Additionally, he did some other repairs/reworking of things throughout this country home. This was a newly built home at the time, but I had run into issues with the original contractor making these desired changes as I was trying to coordinate that long-distance. Kurt was very willing to guide me on all of these changes - sometimes suggesting other changes I had not thought of - then gave me a very fair bid for all of the work - and was able to coordinate his sub-contractors to do the job very quickly despite the distance. Then, this past Spring, I had major storm damage at my country place - had damage to the home exterior and screened in porch and also MANY large trees down throughout my 40 acre property. Was having trouble finding somebody local to do the needed repairs and to cut up the trees that were reliable and within my budget. I contacted CBK and Kurt was very helpful, again despite the distance, and within a week personally came to my country home and made the home repairs himself at a very reasonable cost. Additionally, he offered to bring a crew of his guys down to do clean-up with all of the trees. Within a week of that initial visit for the home repairs, he had his crew down there and had all of the trees in the immediate area of the house all cleaned up. Later this Fall he will bring his crew back down to clean up more of the trees from the remainder of my property. Amazingly, despite the distance the crew had to travel, his price was much more reasonable and the work was very thorough. In comparing the work they did to what many of my neighbors had done by locals, CBK's work far exceeded all of it and was much more competitively priced than any of them. His crew even separated and piled all of the brush for ease in burning, cut all the wood in sizes that can be easily handled in my fireplace, etc. - they went way above and beyond with the service they provided.
