It went very well. They were able to schedule Jason the day after I discovered the leak. Jason called 10 minutes before he arrived as he said he would. He immediately analyzed the problem and determined he could repair the old toilet or I could get a net toilet for about $400 more. His price was exact, I just don't remember exactly what it was because I decided on the new one. This was about what others had quoted me for the toilet I wanted. Jason ordered the new toilet, and it was delivered in about an hour and a half. In the mean time Jason replaced the old turn off valve which didn't work, and then the toilet when it arrived. The job was completed as promised. Jason was a very contentious, thoughtful, and through worker. He even was thoughtful enough to turn my basement lights off when he was finished. I cannot go into the basement because of my knees.

We had a great experience! Before I decided to work with Thome, I got bids from 5 other plumbers....they were willing to dig up the concrete but not replace it. I mentioned this to Matt when he came for the bid and he looked at me like I had two heads. This was a good sign to me that he would never even think about not replacing the concrete. They showed up on time and were very professional and got the job done in the expected timeframe. I will definitely be calling them in the future for any of our plumbing needs!

The job was done promptly and professionally -- it is great to see someone who knows how to do quality work. The inspector did a quick inspection before signing off saying, "Thome does good work."

Plumber came out and said couldn't repair due to amount of time it would take and charged me $116 for visit. Said work would take several hours as this was a big job and quoted $700 but offered $40 back of initial $116 cost. I researched material costs which came in at less than $200 but at $100/hour which is what most plumbers charge, I figured I'd go ahead. Thome has serviced other houses of mine. At actual day of service, it took less than two hours but I was still charged $650. Now I'm out $766 out of pocket and when I questioned Thome, I received a response stating their parts were over $340 and they charged me $152/hour for service. There is so much not right about this, I didn't even ask for the $40 credit. The work was good and finished product looks fine. Very disappointing and shady pricing and customer service when I brought up my concerns.

Dear Matt, Enclosed you will find a meter that you left at my home. I wanted to return it to you. You will also find a check in the amount of $180.00. I don’t know how much you would have charged me for that Monday you came over because the $180.00 charge you quoted was to include the installation of the shower head. Instead I have substituted the ½ of the part you all chose to put in the tub that I said I would pay for for the shower head install. I would like to reiterate the problems I have encountered in our dealings: 1. You and Greg did not determine the actual problem for my short showers but instead guessed and, without telling me it was a guess, put in a part that was unnecessary and charged me $315.00. 2. You did make that right by agreeing I would pay you for the water flow and pressure tests you should have done in the first place and suggested I resolve the issue by putting in a new shower head which would cost me, in total, $180.00. You would then refund me the difference between that and the $315.00 because you didn’t know how to issue a credit on the $315.00. I agreed. However, when I asked you about putting in a pressure regulating valve for the whole house you indicated that was going to be really expensive and just dismissed it. So I did as well. 3. Upon further investigation I learned that having 100 psi coming into my house was not good for my fixtures and appliances. That it would cause premature failure for the fixtures and my appliances. Those are all pretty expensive things to replace. So I wondered how much this whole house pressure regulating valve actually cost. I’m still working that out but initial quotes appear to be not much more than your initial charge. And this from well researched and highly rated plumbers. So to recap: unacceptable plumbing practices, followed by unacceptable billing practices, followed by unacceptable plumbing advice. As you know, I contested the $315.00 charge with my credit card company and that amount was taken back from you. However, I never intended to “stiff” you thus the check. Also, out of respect for your father, who I have the utmost regard for, I will not speak of this experience for a period of 6-9 months unless someone specifically asks me. At that time I feel you will have run the company long enough that any negative comments I make will be reflecting on you and not him. I urge you, please improve your business practices. If not for your sake then for your father’s reputation.

This is difficult to rate because the first person from Thome (one of the brothers, I believe) who came to my house could not get the faucets off and he seemed perplexed. He appeared to be a very strong person but he had a very difficult time. He tried to use rubber grips so as not to ruin the faucet handle finish. He spent a lot of time standing there looking at it. I then suggested we look at You Tube to see how to remove them and he agreed so I did that and showed him the video. They would still not move. Then, I suggested we call the faucet handle manufacturer, Moen, and he said that was a good idea. So I called Moen and spoke with a customer service representative and put the plumber on the line. They suggested he first soak the handles in vinegar so I got some and we tried that, which helped loosen one of them but overall did not work. Then, Moen asked us to text a picture of the faucet handles, which he did, and they ordered new faucet handles and shipped them to me. The plumber told me to call when they arrived. After the new handles arrived, I called Thome and this time a different person came to my house. It took him a while but he eventually got them off. He could use a different tool than the first person because I now had new faucet handles so it did not matter if the old ones were ruined. Apparently, the reason it was so difficult to remove the old faucet handles was because there was a lot of calcification. He was careful not to damage my granite countertop. Although the job was eventually completed to my satisfaction, and I understand that the faucet handles were very difficult to remove, I thought the first person was not very helpful in trying to figure out a solution more promptly, which resulted in me paying for both plumbers' time. Both workers were punctual and very pleasant. After the work was completed, I asked the plumber about another issue I have been having and he looked at it, gave me an opinion of what he thought the problem was, and then suggested whom I should call, which was helpful. Although I said in the survey here that I would hire them again, I am not certain but there was no category for that. If I did hire them again, I would ask for the second plumber who came to my house.

Thome Plumbing went above and beyond my expectations with finding our missing stop box and completing the water meter work. They first tried to find it with a metal detector, then when that failed, called the water company to get measurements on where it was originally installed. The measurements indicated that it was most likely under the road in front of our house. Thome Plumbing then reached out to our local city municipality and arranged with the city to pay for any additional cost to move or rebuild the stop box ($$) as long as it could be proven that it was under the road. Reason being: the road outside our house had been widened years earlier by the city. Matt from Thome Plumbing ended up proving that it was indeed under the road by locating and hiring (with my prior approval) a company in Illinois who does water line leak detection. This all took several months (Oct - Feb) to work out, throughout which Matt kept me up to date. It culminated with minor excavation of our front yard to rebuild the stop box and raise the water meter, which was done quickly and with minimal disturbance to our front yard. I can't thank Matt and everyone over at Thome Plumbling for helping us fix this problem! They have definitely earned our business going forward.
