One bit of information before I start this review: although we share the same last name, we are not related to, nor did we know Dan prior to this process. We found his company through Angie's List. We hired Dan and his crew to finish our basement, which was a completely blank canvas. All we had was a rough-in for the basement plumbing for a bathroom and an egress window for a bedroom. Before hiring Dan, he sat down with us and we explained what we wanted to include in our basement and what we imagined it would look like. He gave some very useful and practical design suggestions that we implemented when the process got started. On Dan's second visit, he sat us down with our quote and broke out exactly what is included in his services and what we would need to purchase on our own, but he would install. From the other quotes we received, contractors would give you a credit for certain items such as carpet, cabinets, lighting, flooring, etc. I like Dan's method a lot better because what we saw from our credit amount quoted from other companies, those amounts were considerably lower than what we actually spent on those items, and they do this just to try to quote you as low as possible, knowing you will probably end up spending more than that amount. Dan's way of doing this allows the customer to spend whatever they are comfortable with on these items without worrying about the credit amounts and working all of that out. Once Dan was hired he gave us a timeline of what would take place and who would be in and out of our house during this time (plumbing, electricians, his crew). I'll add that his entire crew and subcontractors were very professional and courteous each and every day. The overall process for our basement took about 2.5 months which was in Dan's estimate of 3 months for completion. Our basement includes a bedroom, bathroom, wet bar area, workout room and entertaining/recreation area in about 1500 sq ft of finished area. Dan, his crew, and subcontractors were responsible for framing, drywall, insulation, flooring (customer picks out and pays for but Dan's crew installs), plumbing, painting, fixture installation, tv cabling and many other things including a custom built bookshelf that turned out perfect. During the finishing process, Dan always communicated what was going to be completed that day/week and confirm with us that is what we wanted. As we all know, sometimes things don't come out as expected or planned, and this did happen on a couple of occasions. Dan was amazing when these situations arose. "No problem, we'll get that fixed" is what comes to mind when we would communicate about something not being how we thought it should have been. I'm not sure whether I drove Dan nuts or not, but he never made me feel like I did when I would call or text him about a certain part of the process. He always welcomed the calls and I'd end up feeling confident about the result. Anyone going through this process knows it is nerve-racking because you are spending a lot of money and want things to come out as you imagine. Dan puts all these worries at ease. There are always points that you are like, man I hope this turns out ok. But with Dan I can't tell you how many times I thought to myself, "Dan knows what he is doing and will make sure we are 100% satisfied." And he did exactly that. We could not be happier with how our basement turned out. I know this is a long review but Dan deserves more than "He did great" because he takes his business seriously and was a pleasure to work with. If we ever need other work done on our house, he will be the first person I call.
