Lesson learned: Price isn't the most important detail. Bid process seemed to go well enough; received very detailed contract. There was a lot of work done in total, but the finish work isn't good at all. Many, many details overlooked and not fixed after I gave detailed list of the remaining problems, and he told me all of the issues were addressed I'm too tired of the whole thing to try to get anything more done by them. Bathroom pedestal sink wasn't securely attached to the wall, only being held in place by plumbing; toilet removed was left in backyard for months, I recently purchased stove to put in kitchen and the space left for the stove is about 1/2" too narrow for a standard stove... not sure yet how I'm going to trim the formica countertop to make it fit - guess I'm glad they didn't caulk the countertop to the wall after all. One problem is that they live way too far away from where the house is located. I didn't realize how far away until after they'd started working, but I doubt that would have occurred to me as a problem, but iI will definitely take it into account in the future. I called in another person to fix some of the problems encountered, but ran out of money before I could have them all taken care of.

When looking for someone to do a multitude of jobs, and not really knowing how to go about sorting them all out, I actually resorted to another service that "placed" my job needs, so I wasn't so overwhelmed (unfortunately got many more calls than I wanted). Karen called and we discussed all the different things I wanted to do and asked which they could handle (handyman description seemed limiting), and she said they could probably handle everything but that I should meet with Jason and go through the house and see what was needed. I met Jason, who was on-time, and we walked the house and I told him what I was looking for. Where I wasn't sure about something, he made excellent suggestions and filled in many of the blanks for me. Karen does the paint/color/interior decor suggestions - and paints!! Jason does pretty much everything else. I received an estimate via email, though it took a couple days longer than I expected, it was both quite detailed and very reasonable. The contract I was presented with was just as detailed, with job stages listed and the payment schedule clearly stated (also reasonable). They started working and made great progress very quickly. They did have a vacation already scheduled during the middle of project, but I knew ahead of time and had no problem with it. The most amazing part of this situation is that, while the a/c worked the last time we checked it, between that time and when work started someone had stolen the copper & coil from the unit. It blew air, but only hot air. They worked through some of the hottest days we've had this summer, brought their own fans and never once complained about it. I felt horrible about the situation, but couldn't get it fixed before they completed the project. What a work ethic... The only snag was a misunderstanding, on my part, of the start date, and I thought they were done with the job they were working on when we signed the contract, but it wasn't yet completed. The job started about 2 weeks later than I thought it would, I went out of town in the midst of it, and they had vacation, so all-in-all it ended a little later than I'd hoped. Believe me though - it was worth the wait!!
