Funeral Homes
$11,500
The Celebration of Life service for my mother and brother was scheduled for 1:00 p.m on 3/5/13.  When we arrived at Mossy Cemetery at 12:30, nothing was set up yet.  We stood around waiting in the cold (including an 85 year old woman among others!) until the person who was setting up the gravesite came up to me and asked if we were waiting for "the funeral that was scheduled for 2:30."   At this point it was now 1:15 and on top of grieving for my mother and my brother, I'm not a happy camper.   I called the funeral home and was told that Jimmy Miller was on his way.  Upon his arrival, no apology was offered for being late, nothing. Additionally, I had been told that there would be 6-8 chairs under the awning for people to sit in during the gravesite service.  No chairs were ever brought out and several elderly people were forced to stand through the service.  When I complained to Jimmy Miller at the funeral home later, his only comment was, "Well, they had their cars to sit in!"  (Like that made it okay!) So on top of trying to grieve for my mother and brother I spent the time apologizing to people for the wait.  The funeral didn't even start until after 2:00.  I would think a funeral home that has been in business as long as they have would be alot more efficient!
Secondly, I asked Jimmy for a small box of my brothers cremains be set aside for a memorial service I planned for him in early
summer.   I also paid for it too.  When we arrived at the cemetery on March 14th to bury my brother and I asked about the separate box of cremains, Jimmy Miller told me he had "forgotten about it."  He then said he could "get a baggy, go to the car, open my brothers urn and pull some out if I wanted him to." Really?!  I'm sorry but I find that completely tacky, inappropriate and disrespectful so I declined his offer as I didn't find it at all appealing.
Additionally, I had asked Jimmy Miller on numerous occasions if my bill was paid in full and on numerous occasions I was told that it was.  Then I receive a call from him two weeks ago indicating that I still owe $1023.50 and if I send him this amount that he will "give
me my mother's headstone at cost."  Sorry, but I didn't find that to be a good trade.  So now, I'm supposed to come up with another
$1,023.50 because of their mistakes when I've already spent over $11,500 with them?   As far as I was concerned I was owed not only a "good faith" credit for the mishaps that I didn't cause, but a credit for services I didn't receive but paid for!   I also refused to pay for the original death certificates for my mother.  I never received them, even though I called on numerous occasions to get them and finally ended up ordering them and receiving them from an internet order myself.  Jimmy, when I would call, would make some lame excuse about how he was meaning to call me about them but, of course, never got around to it.  Someone else from the funeral home left a message for me on 4/20, 2 months after my mother passed away, to let me know the death certificates were now available to pick up.
When I spoke to Jimmy Miller on the telephone yesterday, he basically blamed me for all the mistakes, was completely rude and disrespectful and told me that the only reason I was complaining was because I didn't want to pay his bill.  After spending over $11,500.00, paid in CASH do you really think that $1,000.00 is going to make a big difference to me?  I had also previously advised him that I would be prepaying for my husband and my funerals too.  After he accused me of trying to rip off his company he then told me to take my business elsewhere which is what I intend to do.  Oh, he did in the end, very grudgingly, forgive the $1,023.50.  Isn't that nice of him?  Talk about unprofessional!  He was mad because I complained about his mistakes plain and simple so acted like a child and took it out on me!  I don't like being taken advantage of and wouldn't recommend this funeral home at all.
