Of three bids his was the next highest. We did not negotiate or haggle and my wife paid him the full price when the job was finished. As the nine-man crew were leaving, the trailer full of old shingles got stuck and the crew made big ruts in the front yard trying to pull it out. My wife who was there working on other issues, had to call my father-in-law to bring his big tractor to pull them out.
When my wife mentioned the ruts, John Dolinger said that when he bid the job he thoght the roof had two layers of old shingles, when it actually had three, so he wanted to skip fixing the yard since I guess he felt like he did us a favor by tearing off all three layers.

The bext day when I saw the torn up yard, I got annoyed and sent two texts to 'Algo' the foreman's cell phone, which were apparently ignored. A week later I sent a text to John Dolinger, the owner's, cell phone asking if he could send a couple guys back to try and mitigate the ruts, rake them in or whatever. Again, no reply. I did not call him since I have trouble hearing and understanding on the phone, plus I like a written record of business conversations.
I am 63 years old, with the assorted ailments of that age and would prefer not to have to do this man's repair work on my lawn. I am also concerned if we have a leak, will he try to ignore that too?
My sense is that John Dolinger mis-bid the job and apparently doeesn't know how to determine how many layers of old shingles are on a roof. But, that was his mistake, not ours, and he should eat it out of the "fudge factor" every contractor includes in their bids.
It is also not my fault that his crews got stuck and didn't call for a tow truck to winch them out rather than tear up our front lawn. In fact, we saved him the cost of a tow truck by getting my FIL to bring his tractor over and pull them out, without charge.
I would not recommend Dolinger Construction. I can handle the lunch trash and drink bottles the crew threw on the grass and left for me to clean up as well as several old shingles I almost hit with my mower. What I cannot handle is someone with so low a regard for the customer's property and such poor grasp of professionalism that he would, for a minute, allow some small thing like this balloon into a poor review on Angie's List, especially when we paid full price, expecting a top notch job.

I had 2 companies do work for me. John with Dolinger Construction tore off all of the old shingles, fixed the underlayment of my roof and replaced my roof with new shingles. I also had my ceilings repaired by another company due to the water leaked through my rood. I have not had any problems with my roof since. John & his crew was great to work with.
