Building Masters

I had him write on the contract that what he was going to do and that I wanted a target completion date at the first of December and then couple of other things he wrote right here on the contract where it had what the estimated price was and deposit and what going to be due when framed and when the balance was due.  We signed this on the first of October, but he didn’t get done until it was very nearly 27 days after he said he would have it done, but I didn’t ride his case about it, if he would’ve gone any further, I would’ve.  I did actually call him once or twice and said hey, is there something I can do to help this and he happened to come out just that day.  He’s a very small company.  I wrote a letter to him when I made him the final payment because it was so bizarre.  He was completed and April, I still hadn’t gotten the final bill from him.  Then finally somebody that he knew that I knew mentioned about the building and I said James still hasn’t sent me a final bill, so he didn’t seem to be that upset about me still owing him over $10,000, but then when I took a look at the bill, I knew he didn’t do the final invoice.  My guess is the wife did or somebody else did because they charged for something that was part of the original contract where it was included in the overall contract and so, I got charged about $600 extra for overhead doors with windows when it was written right here on the contract.  I wrote him a letter and I said hey, I am leaving the $640 off because it was right here on the contract and the problem is he’s kind of a good old boy who is doing all the work and I am sure it was wife or daughter or somebody else who was doing the office work and didn’t know what he had promised me as opposed to whatever, so I sent him a letter saying this is what I’m holding off, if you have any problems with it, call me up and we will discuss it.  Getting in touch with him was a little difficult, but at the end of the day, it worked out okay and we’re very pleased with the building.  We’d recommend him to anybody.
