My wife and I hired Duff Painting Company to paint the exterior of our two-story cedar house in Webster Groves. The house had been previously painted by a different company 10 years ago, but the sun exposed sides started to crack and peel several years ago, perhaps prematurely. Mike Duff, the owner, was a joy to work with. Shortly after being contacted, he came to our house for purposes of discussing our needs and to formulate a bid which was emailed just a few days later. I also received bids from three other companies. I went with Mike because I got the sense that his small company would provide a superior level of skill, attention to detail and craftsmanship compared to the others (and I was right about that), and because his bid was more reasonable than the others for the same work. We made a great choice. Mike’s team of long-term experienced employees showed up on time every day, and were very pleasant, professional, hard-working, and competent. They did an excellent job scrapping, prepping and priming the many rough patches unlike the previous two painting companies we had used. They skillfully taped all the windows. They used a combination of a sprayer and hand rollers to apply the 2 coats. They cleaned up after themselves every day such that you would not have known they were there, and made sure to leave their equipment overnight on different parts of the grass each day so as not to kill it during the week it took to finish the job. It was obvious the team did not believe in cutting corners or rushing the job. The team leader was very good at explaining the process, and he went the extra mile to take care of some additional painting requests I made on the spot which were not part of the original contract. I greatly appreciated the flexibility. Also unlike the prior painting companies, they had a porta potty temporarily installed so the workers would not disturb us during the day. And best of all, the house looks great! The job was finished toward the end of May 2024. When it comes time to paint the house again, Duff Painting Company will get the job. Dave Davis June 2024

Mike Duff has done lots of work for us in the past, so we knew this job would go well. In less than a morning, they replaced and painted some rotting wood on our back porch. As always, the job looks great, and his bill was almost embarrassingly low (we had the paint on hand). Mike and his guys are everything you want in a tradesman: high quality work, reasonable prices, and utterly dependable.

The talent and professionalism of the painters were beyond compare. I say professionalism because when they showed up I (embarrassingly) had not even chosen colors. With an eye to detail, the owner, Michael Duff helped me choose colors that met my wants as well as coordinated with my house. His thoughtful and patient conversation made me so happy with what was a huge source of stress for me (what colors would coordinate with my future tiling and fit with my other rooms, etc.). Their professionalism was also evident in the speed with which they completed the project, even though I added lots of things at the last minute. I was also grateful for their ability to fit me into their schedule earlier than I anticipated. I say talent because they actually painted gorgeous murals on two separate ceilings--not your average painting job! When the toddler requests the bedroom ceiling look like a sky with clouds, you have the hardest possible customer. Duff Painting Co satisfied the most obstinate and capricious client you could imagine, and they even far exceeded expectations. I'm so thrilled with their work, and admire it every day. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't choose Duff Painting Co!

Mike Duff is an exceptional painter. He has done interior and exterior work for us, and he is always our first choice when we have painting to be done. He is also the kind of guy that you can trust with your house keys, which is no small thing these days.

They saw and repaired problems before I realized there were problems. Mike has painted pretty much every square inch of my house inside and out. I wouldn't ask anyone else. Highly recommended.

Mike and his crew did a great job, including thorough clean-up. Mike was patient and went out of his way to help us identify the right color match for brick on the front of our house. I really appreciated the timely communication from Mike and the fact that he was responsive to texts and e-mails. That is a rare quality these days.

Mike was beyond excellent. We just moved in to our home, which was built in the 1920s. He was extremely knowledgeable about my home, beyond painting. He worked with our interior designer to match our paint colors. He took the time each day to address any concerns We had plaster repair and drywall repair. We had a large project with over 2 weeks of work.

We got two estimates and Duff was able to beat the other price by more than 10%. Signed a straight-forward short contract. Once selected, we were fit right into their schedule. Mike Duff helped with the paint selection. He obtained paint samples and applied it to our surfaces so we could select the colors/shades we liked the best. They only use high-quality paint. We selected 3 different shades of paint for the ceiling, wall, crown molding and windows. They did a nice job repairing some cracks. They did less scraping than we expected but the final result was excellent. The job took them an extra day but Mike kept us informed on the progress of the job at the end of each day so we knew what happened and what to expect. The contract price was kept the same. The interior painting work that included 15 French windows with 300 panes of glass required extreme attention to detail which they did. The paint had to cover an old dark color so several coats were necessary. The work site was maintained in a neat and tidy manner. No external mess was made, even when they washed their brushes in the basement. They came back to touch up some spots that were damaged by another contractor and were happy to touch up another couple of spots that needed it when the sun shined on the surface. They stand behind all their work. Overall, we were very satisfied.

This was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a painting contractor. Michael Duff is honest, easy-going and thoughtful in the transaction side of his work, and the consummate professional on the painting side of his business. He and his crew were very careful about protecting their surroundings, diligent, and quick but thorough. The color for one room matched the color in a foyer that was not part of the contracted job, but when I observed that I would need to use the leftover paint to address some bad spots in the foyer, Michael just had the bad spots painted as if it had been in the contracted job. I really enjoyed doing business with Michael and enthusiastically recommend his company.

Mr. Duff showed up with 2 work men and they got started right away. They accomplished what I had asked them to do in a timely manner, and even were able to address another ceiling issue that I added on last minute.

Mike is personable, professional, and the quality of work is high. Will continue to use them for projects I can’t do myself.
