In August I had my sewer rodded and scoped and discovered a break in my line out in the street. I contacted the City (St. Charles) and began the process to get approved for sewer lateral insurance. The city approved it. I contacted at least 7 different contractors, got 3 estimates. Alan Dobson was the one I chose. It was slow getting him out, apparently the lateral business is booming, but when he finally he bagan digging he found a much larger problem than the original scope and estimate revealed. He had the guy from the city come out and we discussed the changed in the entire project. My line was crushed in two places and went from a six-foot repair to over 10. He and the city inspector consulted and figured out the plan and approved the change in the estimate and scope. Alan was courteous and professional throughout. The work was performed well, despite the extreme challenge working around Uverse and other AT&T lines, and the water main. The repair he performed near the house was also much more challenging. Instead of being a small 3-foot repair, he ended up digging up and replacing my stack to fix an improper repair from 5 years earlier. This went beyond what was intended, but he did the job the right way. Afterwards, he even said he'd be back to fix some ruts in the lawn and overseed the area that he dug up. Despite the fact that it was an extensive and expensive repair I was pleased with the work Alan and his crew performed. As an aside note, the sewer lateral collapse was most likely caused by AT&Ts installation of their lines. I now have to try and get reimbursed by them.
