Started well; Rex is personable; took longer than expected, and quality seemed to be deteriorating (e.g. gap between splash guard and wall; some appliances broken, some never delivered; geothermal hooked up wrong; concrete cracking); by my calculations we had paid for significantly more than had been done and he was demanding much more with increasing frequency. When he heard my wife mention the word lawyer, he pulled out. We sued. He refused arbitration (called for in contract); after delays, his lawyer called ours to ask why we were suing Chalet Construction (original company) when it had no assets (having that morning transferred all assets of Chalet construction to Pearl Construction--lawyers call this "Newco" strategy. Then we found he hadn't paid many suppliers (even supplier of wood for framing)(yes; yes, we were naive not to demand to see lien wavers). At mediation, our lawyer told us Rex said he wouldn't need to pay anything, that he could delay indefinitely with trusts, Newco. Eventually settled with him paying half the subcontractors, suppliers, us paying other half (our lawyer said court would be expensive, and even with judgment we wouldn;t be able to collect).

Several friends have used Rex Pearl which is how we heard about him, some huge projects, some small and everyone has been quite pleased with his work. We agree. A+ rating
Description of Work: Contractor for our extensive remodel. His subcontractor choices are all outstanding, professional, friendly and attentive to detail. The vendors he recommends are varied and based on his experience in dealing with them, but if you want to use someone different, he usually has a contact there too.
