They offer a discounted rate for Angie's List Members, which did bring the cost down. I would say that the pricing is fair--but the coupon certainly helped.
The installation was, generally, excellent. The installer did inform me, prior to installing the new doors, that the window insert in one of the doors was the wrong style. He assured me, however, that replacing the window insert was a simple process and that it would be taken care of in a couple weeks (as soon as the new window inserts arrived from the factory). I very much appreciated that the installer told me of the issue before the new doors were up and I really was not too worried about the error, as I was assured it would be resolved quickly and with little inconvenience to me.
After the installer was done, he asked if the credit card on file was how I would like to pay the balance due. I told him that I would be happy to have the balance charged to the card just as soon as the work was completed. The installer wrote "call before billing" three separate places on our paperwork.
Fast forward a couple of weeks. I had not yet heard anything from the company regarding replacing the window insert, but the balance was charged to our credit card. I have now been trying to get Overhead Door to replace the wrong window insert and refund the balance (which we will gladly pay as soon as the doors are completed and correct). At least six times I have called or emailed people at Overhead Door asking that this issue be resolved. Each time I speak with someone, I am promised that they will look into the issue right away and get back to me with the resolution, and each time I have been disappointed.
Now, one month has passed since the doors were installed and I am still trying to track down someone at Overhead Door to give us the window insert we ordered (so that the window inserts on the doors all match) and refund our money until the issue has resolved.
Unfortunately, our decision to go with a more expensive company with the hope of more reliability has been a bad one. In retrospect, we should have gone with one of the companies that gave us a lower bid. The extra $400 we spent to go with Overhead Door certainly did not buy the reliability we thought we were getting.
The technician called us to let us know he was on his way, then when he hit bad traffic that would delay him, and again when he arrived. He provided us with the option and costs for either a repair or a replacement. We decided that, due to the age of the unit, replacing it would be the best choice in the long run. He recommended using a higher horsepower motor, due to the size and weight of the door, which we had already researched and decided was the best option.
We were able to easily schedule the replacement for the next day. A two-man team arrived as scheduled and quickly completed the installation. Overall, it was a great experience. While I hated to have to spend as much as I did on this unexpected expense, I appreciated the prompt, courteous and friendly service I experienced at every step of the way.
This kept bothering me that Overhead Door would only have two garage door openers that they install, so I went online and was surprised that they have many different options. Now why didn't he tell me that so I could have had more choices and maybe I would not have spent $589. So I called the office on Monday and spoke with Brian and he told me that they have multiple options and he wasn't sure why Larry would only tell me they had two. I could have gotten a Genie Opener installed at a lower price, around $400. I had a Genie at my old house that was going on 14 years old and it worked just fine, so I know the Genie brand is a good product.
I find what Larry did was a bad business practice by not giving me all of my options. Why would the company not have a brochure or listing of all of the options based on the need of the customer. I took his word that you only had two, maybe stupid on my part but I trusted what he said was true. Guess I'll know better next time.
In both instances, a technician was dispatched quickly, showed up on time, explained our options, and quickly completed the work.
Our door now functions better, quieter and closes/opens more readily.
I wanted an insulated door with metal interior surface, not the hard foam backing of other doors on the market. Also, after enduring a dark garage space for 30 years, I opted to have windows in the upper section which improves the place immensely. Plus, the exterior color is an exact match to my house trim as luck would have it.(One less thing to paint.)
My garage has low headroom with a minimal backstop so I was somewhat concerned about the install but it came out beautifully. I have more entry clearance than ever before; it seals so snug when closed and runs so smooth and quiet. No more drafts or groaning, grumbling door.
The installer was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and did an excellent job. Quality all around, I am totally happy. Thanks everyone.
