The Hamtils are young but have been in the business for most of their lives as part of their family's business. They are extremely professional, courteous, and work smart to get the job done correctly and quickly.
They consulted with us on how to repair siding in areas where water and insects are destroying the wood. They recommended several clever trips that not only took care of the immediate problems but also lessened the future occurrences.
The caliber of the work, the amount of time it took, the aesthetic, and ultimately the cost exceeded our expectations. (We paid about 30% less than the upper end of their estimate). I've already consulted with them on a future project.
We have contracted Hamtil Construction for two previous projects, and we have been thrilled with their customer service and quality of workmanship. So when the time came to renovate our vintage kitchen, our only call was to Paul and Dave Hamtil. We met with Paul to start designing what we wanted to include in our renovation. As always, Paul had great ideas and was very patient with us. He meticulously researched several product options (windows, appliances, tile, trim, etc.) to ensure we had best design that met our budget and expectations. I think we went through four iterations of narrowing options and finalizing the project scope before we had the final contract in place. Paul is great at putting your vision into a clear and concise contract.
Dave managed the demo and construction with Adam and Lewis. The floor was a big undertaking, as they were removing my giant DIY fail tile floor, underlayment and sub-floor along with the original tile and sub-floor (five layers) down to the original 1x8 wood sub-flooring. Then they built everything backup with new 5/8 plywood, underlayment and porcelain tile. They glued, screwed and stapled the plywood before mortaring and screwed down the underlayment. It is ridiculously solid now. Dave was also very patient with us. He always started and ended each day with an update or clarified any open questions. He was also nice and willing to adapt as we threw curveballs at him (adding an extra pot light, changing receptacles, adding a pendant light over the sink, etc.). The largest issue we faced was our vintage Sub Zero built-in fridge died while we had it in the dining room during the renovation. This was obviously stressful for us, as it was a large, unexpected expense. Dave wanted to help though, so he recommended a certified repair man. When the repair guy said our 40 yr old fridge was a goner, Dave measured and reviewed appliance specifications to ensure we found a new fridge that would fit. In the end, we brought a replacement, but we were lucky Dave was there to help.
The guys were always courteous to our children and extended family, who were often at the house during the renovation days. They were incredibly mindful of keeping the house clean and safe for our little ones. My mother-in-law misses have the guys around haha. The subs they used for the windows and tile installation were friendly and also did amazing work. Paul and Lewis came back to do the final finish work. Paul really excels at the detailed trim work, and he went above and beyond to ensure everything came out perfect. Needless to say, we are incredibly happy with all aspects of our kitchen renovation and would highly recommend Hamtil Construction.
Backstory: We heard about Hamtil Construction from an aunt/uncle, who were extremely satisfied with their recent remodel. After checking out Hamtil?s reviews online, we quickly setup a time to have Paul come over to bid our project. When he came out for the estimate, Paul was timely, professional and asked all the right questions. He provided a detailed
estimate a few days later and was able to accommodate our somewhat-ridiculous timeframe (only had a week to complete construction prior to our move-in date). We signed the contract and met Paul (on a Sunday afternoon snow day!) at the
house to finalize logistics for the work starting on Monday.
Dave managed/completed all the work at our home. The project included removing half of a wall between the kitchen and dining room, restructuring header/doorway, adding electrical outlets/circuit and installing quartz countertops. Dave just spent the first day just prepping ? he laid RAM Board on all the floors and installed temporary plastic walls to contain all
dust/debris. It was impressive ? my wife joked it looked like a scene from Dexter (haha). Dave worked h****** our project, often staying until 6:00 pm or later to finish various steps. He would call/text if he had questions throughout the day. One day he noticed some improper electrical work, so we worked out a change order over the phone to immediately correct it. As promised, the work was completed on-time (one week), and the special order quartz countertops were installed the following Monday. Paul had supervised the countertop template, and Dave managed the install. They left everything spotless before
they left.
Our overall experience was fantastic.
