"ThiscClient has found a discounted stone material as a closeout somewhere, and had it shipped to us. The template was made electronically, and the island dimension was changed on site to a larger dimension from the estimate by the designer. Our measuring tech made and accommodated that change at no additional cost tot he customer. The project was cut and installed properly as approved. After the project twas cut this customer decided to add 2" overhang to the island, and it was too late for this change at that time. This customer disputed the money he paid us through the credit card company and after few months of investigation the money was reinstated to us. The BBB looked at his complaint and turned it down the same day. It is an unfortunate situation but this review, and others that the client threatened to make online unless we give him his money back in full was expected. Please check out our stellar reviews everywhere else."
First, the marble & granite available to choose from in the warehouse was gorgeous & much different from the stone found in St. Louis, because it is real marble from Italy- not fabricated.
Also, the staff know about each slab of marble & granite; where it came from, how & when it arrived to St. Louis, & why it is optimal or not, for your specific project.
Once I chose the Calacatta marble piece for the vanity, they created a template w cuts to match the vanity perfectly. The vanity was delivered & installed with the sink bowl & marble exactly as we discussed, on time AND within the agreed cost.
The staff at Graniterra were professional, prompt & extremely courteous during each interaction. They were responsive to questions, and accommodating to requests.
I worked primarily with Christian in the showroom/ sales; and Joe during the installation process. Christian & Joe were knowledgeable, responsive, & accommodating.
I would definitely recommend Graniterra to anyone looking to remodel a kitchen or bathroom. The marble is the finest around, and the service is exceptional.
process and explained what was to be done. They had us sign documentation through every step of the process, from choosing the stone to templating and installing the stone. The salesman, Ryan, worked with us to make sure we were satisfied through each step of the process. He helped us choose our stone by allowing us to take home samples to look at in our kitchen. After choosing the slab, the appointment was made for templating. Once the template was made, we went to the warehouse to look at the slabs we had chosen. The contractor positioned the templates numerous times until we were satisfied with the way the veining was going to look on the countertops. We sat down with the owner to discuss some previous Angie’s list comments which gave us pause, and he was able to address all our concerns. We were able to schedule meetings conveniently throughout the process to take care of documentation. We chose our install date, and they were prompt about being there that day to install.
The installation was completed in one day. The installers were professional, and we felt very comfortable having them in our home. After the work was completed, we received a quality survey from Graniterra to allow us to evaluate their quality of service. We are very happy with our new granite countertops.
Graniterra again exceeded my expectations with their work in my new home. They installed granite kitchen countertops, bathroom countertops, an onyx fireplace, and travertine floors on the main level. In 2010, I brought Graniterra back in to redo the office kitchen and three bathrooms with granite countertops and all-wood cabinets. In 2012, Graniterra finished my lower level with all cabinetry, knobs, and granite, including a 28-foot granite bar, kitchen area, two bathrooms, and a theatre room.
I was so pleased with Graniterra's exceptional work in my new home that I am presently using them to install granite in my son's kitchen.
For each of these projects, the order of services provided was as follows: I selected the granite/onyx/travertine for each project. The team at Graniterra drew up designs for the layout of the cabinets and countertops. I went to the shop to pick out the color and design of the cabinets for Graniterra to order. Graniterra installed the cabinets and did a cardboard template for the countertops and fabricated and installed them.
For each project, Graniterra provided the highest quality products on the market, superb workmanship, and outstanding customer service. They earned my repeat business every step of the way. I highly recommend Graniterra for your next home project.
1 week later we get a call from Ryan to schedule the home visit. Ryan initially came 1 hour late. He introduced himself as an architect who was laid off his previous job and so he is now selling kitchens (We, I guess were supposed to be impressed by his card which said director of Architectural sales ??What does that even mean?) He told us he was late for a graduation party and oculd not stay. he took pictures of the kitchen, said a few derogatory comments about how it was laid out. meanwhile we were trying to interject our style preferences to give him an idea of what we wanted. We chose these based on the gallery on their website to give him an impression. We also gave him a list of appliances that we had picked out for the new kitchen. he asked us what our budget was and we said $35,000 not including appliances. (My wife at this point nudged me and said this was too much but i really wanted a quality kitchen). Meanwhile he continued to interject comments like he wished he would live in our neighborhood int he next 15-20 years etc.. He then told us he owuld be in touch in 2 weeks and scheduled an appointment at their showroom for 9am at a specific date (a Saturday)where he would then present us with a plan.
On the morning of the appointment he texted us at about 8:15 and asked if he could reschedule the appointment for 3pm as he had other work. We refused. We had put aside the morning for him and were on our way to their office. We did not want to waste our whole day on this. He acceeded and met with us at their office. The meeting lasted about 1 hour. At this meeting he showed us a graphing paper with stick drawing of the layout of his proposed kitchen. He said he had made a computer rendering of his plan but that it was lost. He then proceeded to ask us one by one our preferences on cabinet style, handle style, color, backsplash, flooring in other words every component of the job (How he would have made a rendering without this info is beyond me). he did however present us with a detailed price list of our job which he said had been trimmed to $48000 not counting appliances including $17,000 of labor costs. We balked and did not sign this agreement. For one thing we would have had to deposit money if we did and all we had was a pencil drawing on graphing paper. He told us he would continue to try to trim off cost and call us in about a week and if it was not acceptable we could part ways. Again small talk included how he was going on vacation for a week as we were and where were we going etc...
After leaving their office I had had enough. It old my wife he was late for the first appointment, wanted to reschedule the 2nd appointment and all he had was a stick drawing without ever knowing our preferences but an outrageously high estimate of the cost with no details. So that afternoon we texted him that we were going elsewhere for the job.
Upon returning from vacation 2 days ago , surprisingly, my wife gets a call from him asking how our vacation was. He told us he did receive our text but said he now had a drawing of our kitchen and would we like to see it? My wife informed him that if we contracted them after all the missteps we had already seen that this would likely be a mistake as we consider his treatment of us unprofessional to date. The only work he put in was in making a cost estimate which was 30% above our already high budget and trying to hook us into a contract where we would then have to put a down payment.
I am writing this review not because we feel cheated. The only thing we lost was time. However it is to warn other list members about this kind of contracting. I do not know if this is specific to him ( as he told us he works on straight commision) or to his firm. As my wife told him, if we continued to use his service after what we had seen so far then we should be considered stupid and deserving of the mess to follow. He thanked her for taking his call anyway.
"As President of Graniterra, I would like to apologize to (removed member name) for any let down that he experienced with us! We have in business for 15 years, and have excellent customer service and quality reviews ad evident by our BBB rating and longevity, and it saddens me to hear about your less than exemplary experience. Your designer, Mr. Ryan Haines is an accomplished architect with Graniterra, as are all of our design and construction professionals . I am proud of all of what they bring to the table to our customers every day. Please allow me to clarify to Angies' List Customers, Mr. Haines did put in over 10 hours of his own professional time in site visit, preparing a complete CDA (Conceptual Design Agreement), preparing an initial cabinet design, and a detailed itemized estimate of the construction cost with a complete scope of work, all with no obligation to (removed member name) (and yes he only compensated on projects that are sold as it is the norm in our industry). This is how we work, there was no exchange of monies here, we do not ask for a retainer, or any monies or contract up front. We simply prepare a complete design proposal up front by a professional with no obligation. We always hope that our designs are agreeable with our clients and the clients' budget is within realistic expectations. It is unfortunate that we are not always successful in this regard. I wish (removed member name) the best with his remodel and I am sorry we could not earn your business. Alex Elzein, PE Graniterra"
"Graniterra stocks over a 100 colors in stock and we provide full service kitchen, bath and granite products, and is the only MIA accredited fabricator in Missouri Pricing is based on type of granite and general layout of the kitchen. Sometimes, it is not fair to the customer, and often not feasible to give an estimate on something that the designer/ sales person have not seen. We do offer a free site check up and measuring service at no obligation to provide an accurate estimate. We believe it is best to provide an accurate estimation once rather than provide a "low estimate" and do the bait and switch that some cmpetitors practice."
A project to be completed in 2 months extended to 14 months and still isn’t right. Graniterra failed over and over again. Laborers and their eventual replacements were extremely challenged to get the job done right as they didn’t possess the skills one would expect of anyone considered capable of sucessfully completing a remodeling project.
Naming only a few of their failures: The 1st travertine floor installation in the kitchen was not level. They tried to fix it by grinding it level, but that didn’t work and the tile had to be broken up and removed. Accent glass tile for the bathroom walls wasn’t applied correctly and had to be removed. The next application was applied over broken dry wall and they tried to patch the difference with heavy applications of mud which ended up as bad if not worse than the first attempt. The kitchen cabinets were ordered in the wrong size as was the sink. We ordered a double sink and they persistently tried to push off a single bowel sink because that was all would fit in the smaller (than we ordered) cabinet they ordered incorrectly. The 1st bath sink they installed was very tiny and again - bviously ordered incorrectly. The shower pan was ordered 8 inches narrower than was proposed. Dry wall work still shows where screws were applied.
Crown molding in kitchen was ordered in wrong size. Some of the base molding was never fastened to the wall. New appliances weren’t installed correctly and we had to hire professional help. It’s really difficult to name a single task that was done correctly the second, that’s right the second time.
So 14 months of sacrificing the use of rooms and appliances that one uses every day. Not to mention the extreme sacrifice of our time to baby sit the hired help month after month and still feel sick about all we gave up in the process.
Graniterra has a book full of excuses for their extensive list of mishaps, but their excuses don’t hold up any better than their level of
service.
The only thing we’re happy about is having them out of our house and the neighbors are also happy about not seeing their trucks around anymore.
"Where the customer raises some legitimate issues here, Graniterra has worked religiously to address them all. Even repolished in place the marble floors multiple times tot eh customer's satisfaction. This project started out as kitchen remodel and mushroomed into a full Bath, Entry way, and Fireplace stone surround replacement. There was many change orders affecting the scope and many additional work (drywall replacement) the the client decided to do on his own which increased the completion time. The work was performed in a quality manner, on budget, and the results were impeccable. The client wanted to unjustly withhold the final payment of $15,000, and Graniterra objected, hence this review."
