Dale was very easy to work with and provided what I thought was a very reasonable price for the work performed.  We had one hiccup with the work because damage was done to an auxiliary sewer line, but Dale was kind enough to cap it after the plumber's work was done.

We use Hackmann for annual maintenance services.   They do our spring cleanup and pull all the weeds and cut down a significant amount of ornamental grasses.  They do mulching & lawn fertilizer on a regular basis.  I have been very happy with their professional service.  This review does not cover installing new plants.

Very professional.

This was new construction. We were happy with the grading, however not happy with the preparation for seed. In our yard a large amount of rock and debris was left post-construction. Rather than prep for grading by removing the rock and debris, the yard was graded and the rock and debris left. We were concerned about rock and debris damaging mowers and being discharged as projectiles damaging windows. We ended up hiring another service who used a landscape rake attachment on a bobcat to remove rock and debris, prepare the lawn, fertilize and reseed.

Our yard in full of 30+ year old trees and in some places grass simply doesn't grow. We had a drainage and run-off issue along the walk down to our pool, partially caused by shade and partly by damage done when we had some concrete work done several years ago. We also had an issue with water pooling on one edge of the pool. Our goal with hiring Hackmann was to eliminate these issues and to make the yard more visually appealing.
We obtained bids from 5 different companies, but liked Dale Hackmann's vision of the work. He also was very responsive and willing to make changes so we selected his company. He also understood that we wouldn't allow any heavy equipment to be brought into the yard.
Due to the weird weather in the spring and early summer, the start of our job was delayed until the first of July. Dale's philosophy is to not start the next job until the current job is complete. Once his crew arrived and were walked through the job, they worked harder than I've ever seen a crew work, even with some very hot days. Everyone on the crew was polite and respectful. The work took 5 days to complete, and once complete the crew cleaned up after themselves. On the last day, which occurred after a short rain break, the crew lead noticed that one of the large river rock beds hadn't properly drained and he immediately remedied the issue.
For us, this was a very large job. We were 100% impressed with the work and the crew and will hire them again should we ever have another large landscaping job.

They were great. I was concerned that it was too late in the season to be sodding, Hackmann was confident that it would take and they were right. Six months later - it looks great and I'm very pleased with the job. They showed up on time, had a hard working crew, good attention to detail and good clean up.

I got 3 estimates for the work described. Hackmann was very competitive. We were over all very pleased with the work done. We had moved into a house that had not been maintained well. It was amazing the difference having the work done made. The crew worked well together and were responsive when I asked them to do a bit more trimIng on one of the oak trees. I wanted to do business with someone local and was very pleased with the whole experience. I would use them again for any lawn or landscaping work.

They are very reasonable. It is a small company. They come when I have called during the rainy weather. They are very nice on the phone and they always call back.

Dale, the company owner, came and talked to me about the project and took measurements, then e-mailed a quote and diagram detailing his proposal. His written proposal was very detailed, including all costs itemized and names and sizes of plants to be used. He also brought over samples of the stones and rock to choose from.

Two men came and worked 2 1/2 days. They followed the design proposal exactly. They were prompt and courteous. Dale came and checked on the project several times.

I am extremely happy with their work. I felt like Dake listened to what I had in mind but also used his knowledge and experiience to insure a good outcome for the project.

Remove railroad tie wall [rotten] about 80 sq-ft vertical surface. Wall was L-shaped 35 ft x 15 ft. Yard had a redwood fence that had to be removed when the ties were removed. Neighbors yard had grass, plants and landscaping that needed to be protected and not damaged. Hackman did an excellent job removing the rotten railroad ties, installing drainage system with fabric protected 1" clean backfill and Versa Lok retaining wall system. To accomplish this they had to remove the redwood fence and reinstall the fence upon completion. Neighbor's yard was protected. Any tracks from hauling blocks and gravel on my yard were fixed to my satisfaction. The final bill was adjusted down to account for estimated costs that were not incurred. I am totally satisfied with Dale Hackman and his crew.
