Electrical

Received a reasonably priced quote to update all plumbing and electrical. His pricing was way too expensive for simple carpentry and drywall. So, I did not accept his bid for that portion of the project. His pricing included permits though he only purchased the permit for the electrical work. Because his plumbing subcontractor quit on him last minute walking into my project. I was never informed of this. Drains were not sealed appropriately and I was having to hire other plumbers to come back in and rework all of the issues Mike Derickson and his crew at "Built Wright Construction" caused. He was never on time and caused my Drywallers schedule issues pushing the complete time line further out than expected. He nickle and dimed was should have been part of his pricing quote and even told me the city was requiring me to complete a new water service to the house. I told him I could not afford that and he said he would talk to the inspector "they were good friends" so that the project could move forward. HE DIDN'T PURCHASE A PERMIT! SO, what Inspector was he going to make good with. By the time the project was completed he had caused me to spend $5,000 more on "new code" BS. Don't hire this guy...RUN!!!

Hired Mike Derickson (Built Wright Construction and Electric LLC) to install new electric and plumbing in a small rehab to rent.  I had a construction plans and a tight schedule.  All of which was shared and readily available to he and his crew. At the same time I hired another company to complete the carpentry end of the project. Mostly because Mike Derickson's bid on that was higher then i wanted to pay a crew for the simple job. Built wright pulled electrical and plumbing permits and I pulled the carpentry permits.  After demolition and framing was installed Built Wright was to come out and run electrical and plumbing.  Continuously his company would drag their feet getting to my rehab to complete their end of the work. Installing light switches in the wrong locations.  I had to call and have them re-install a light switch twice. Once because they installed it behind the door and the second time because they installed it in a linen closet. They argued with the carpenters as to installing an hood range in the kitchen to the point the carpenters went ahead and just finalized the install.  When installing my bath vanity and sink they did not caulk. Again the carpenters caulked...not their job but were helpful.  they toilet tank was not installed correctly. I had to later make sure it was tightened down because it leaked.  The plumber (a subcontractor he says they never hire)  pull the permit to start the job but, when he wasn't paid in full for his work pulled the permit and did not finish the job.  Built Wright without permit finished the job and never informed me.  He tried to get me to pay for a totally new water service that would have raised the budget $3200.  Because of the added extras he said the city required on the electric his original estimate went from $8500 to $10,000. This guy nickle and dimed me to death. Before all was said and done he was paid in full! I lost an tenant who was going to move into my apartment I was moving from because the schedule he promised to meet took 3 months to complete.  The house is 800 SF...3 Months is ridicules! Then to beat all when I called him to come back because he had not finished the job by not tying my plumbing into my boiler.  I found out only when I needed to start my boiler system for the year.  He would not return my calls and refused to honor my 1 year warranty saying he had a job happening in the Ozarks and would come out next week.  I heard that twice and then he quit calling me back.  Once he's paid he's gone! Plus he's rude and talked filthy at me when I demanded resolution.  Check out his response to my BBB review.

I experienced serious issues with a rehab project that I hired Mike Derickson and his crew to provide services for in plumbing and electrical. Mike displays the attitude he is willing to go that extra mile for you and your project but once the project started he nor his crew would show up when they committed to, causing my entire schedule to be put behind by several weeks. Once they started the job my needs and concerns became secondary to the larger jobs Mike Derickson was more concerned with obtaining. I experienced issues with how Built Wright Construction located switches and outlets without questioning as to where my preference was or did they look at the provided permit plans. The electrician installed a switch behind a door then on the inside of a closet. The electrician created more holes in my existing walls to drop new electrical then was necessary causing an increase in my drywall costs. The shower head Built Wright installed in my bathroom is 7 feet above finished floor instead of the standard 6 feet. I can not reach the shower head without standing on the edge of the tub. They did not caulk the sinks as typically finished by plumbers. The final straw was when I went to have my boiler system for radiant heat prepared for use this winter. Built Wright Construction had not tied the new plumbing into the boiler system. Again, making me wait over a week for him to honor his 1year warranted protection. I am still waiting for his call back to come finish the job. I paid Mike Derickson with Built Wright Construction on time in full and trusted him time and time again, excuse after excuse. I am a professional in the field of design and construction and I know quality installation and customer follow through. This company has not held up to any of those standards.

First, let me say that the work was OK, but the level of professionalism was absolutely terrible!  A three day job turned into a month log experience.  The owner would drop his men off at the house and would not bother to tell me who was there.  Sometimes, they would not show up at all and would not call!  I was informed more than once that he had to take care of a job out of town.  Ok, but call and say something as it is very unprofessional to wait for someone who never shows up.
Second, the quote that you get will not be your final costs!  If there are problems due to inspections and additional work need to be performed because it was not done right the first time, he will charge you for it!  I feel like that is an expense that he should have to eat because of his mistake or miscalulation.
One final note, on the last day of the job, the worker had to turn off the pilot light for the gas in order to do the gas line, but he did not know or how forgot to relight it.  When I called the owner about it, he informed "I will be over tomorrow to light it and Im sorry you will have to take a cold shower tonight."  No effort was made to come the same day and this is something that I feel should have been offered.
Again, the work was fine, but Im a stickler for professionalism and this was the WORST I have EVER SEEN and I will NEVER recommend this company for anyone for this reason alone.  Professionalism goes a long way for me!
