They finished part of the project, but they wouldn't finish the rest of it. I don't think anything had to be redone. They would not finish the project. I begged them to. They told me I wasn't on their schedule even though I had an existing contract and I would have to wait a month. I sent them a letter offering to settle so I could get rid of them. Then they contacted me and wanted the full contract amount even though they wouldn't finish the work. I would never use them again.

After contacting three other electrical companies, Volz was the only one who said they would send a technician out within a couple of hours to trouble-shoot my electrical issues.  To my surprise, the technician showed up within one hour, which was excellent.  He immediately tested the entire electrical panel, located the bad switch, went to the supplier and got the correct switch, and replaced it.  The problem was solved in less than an hour, to include the travel time to retrieve the part.  The technician was polite, professional, and cleaned up his installation.  I am extremely pleased with my service and will be contacting Volz for my future electrical needs.

It went well. This work was because I was selling a house. After the work was done, we discussed the fact that the county inspector would need to come out again. I did not understand that it was a different inspector than the original county inspector.  We had a lack of communication on that part, which caused some panic on my part when I found out I still needed an additional inspection. Other than that, everything was fine.
I would suggest to anyone selling a house to make sure you understand who has to inspect for what when major electrical work is done.  It will save some panic on your part.

The entire experience was extremely professional.  They called to confirm the appointment, showed up on time, and their prices were very competitive.  The gentleman who performed the work was very courteous and professional.

It was a year ago and they saved me a lot of money because they could make me replace my circuit panel, but they just fixed it. That saved me $900 from some of the other bids which were estimating it at $1400, whereas I could do it for $500. They saved me a lot of money. They added and replaced breakers. I chose them because I was getting good referrals from my real estate broker.

Everything started out fine. Mr. Tom Volz gave a quote and advised me about issues with installing the spa under the main service wires from the pole to the house. I then contacted another electric company and they confirmed that I must not keep the planned configuration. Mr. Volz was willing to revise the quote and adjust the job to move the service drop (although the quote he gave verbally was less than the final charge). They sent out an electrician one morning to install conduit where the concrete pad would be poured the next day - he was prompt and professional. I appreciated them sending him out quickly since I had scheduled the concrete pour before I signed a contract with Volz. Several days later they sent an electrician to install the outdoor wiring and the main wire through the basement. This person was prompt and professional, but it turned out the office staff gave him incorrect instructions and the wrong parts (50-amp outside disconnect for the spa instead of the required 60-amp disconnect). They sent another person (the third person for this job) the next day to replace the service panel. This person was prompt but rude and dismissive to my wife who was home to allow him access, etc. She was working from home and he said the power would be off for only a short period (30 minutes to 1 hour). The power was off for approximately 3 hours instead. The service contract specifically states that when the panel was replaced all information concerning breaker service (i.e. which breaker serves the kitchen, bathroom, etc.) would be transferred to the new service panel. Upon reviewing the work after the electrician left, I found that all the breakers were labeled "lights and outlets" (no indication of which lights and outlets) except the one to the spa and the air conditioner. I then looked at the rest of the work and discovered the incorrect breaker outside to service the spa. I called them and asked them to send someone to correct the problems right away since the spa was scheduled to be delivered in two days. They sent the second electrician to correct the problem the morning of the day the spa was scheduled for delivery. He replaced the breaker/disconnect for the spa and finished some cosmetic issues the third electrician left undone. However, he did not have the time available to re-map the service panel. I also noted that the electricians left brick dust and other debris around the work areas even after they considered the job complete. I went ahead and paid the final bill without renewing the complaint about the service panel labeling. By this time I was extremely tired of contractor failings and just wanted to finish dealing with this project.
Response from VOLZ ELECTRIC INC
"VOLZ ELECTRIC WAS UNWARE OF THE PROBLEMS REGARDING THE SINGLE ELECTRICIAN'S BAD ATTITUDE. WE DID LET THE ELECTRICIAN GO IN THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER 2009 FOR MULTIPLE REASONS. VOLZ ELECTRIC'S CONTRACT CLEARLY STATED THAT, LABEL SAME AS EXISTING PANEL. VOLZ ELECTRIC IS SORRY FOR THE EMPLOYEE BAD ATTITUDE. VOLZ ELECTRIC NEVER GOT A CALL FROM THE CUSTOMER REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. TOM VOLZ"

Mr. Volz was very helpful in helping me decide what to do. The price that he quoted was much less than others. He used good quality materials. It was inspected and found to be good work. The cutout in the wall could have been neater.

Based on my description of the work I wanted done, I was given an estimate at the time I called to set up the appointment. The electrician came when promised and the work was done quickly and professionally. I was charged the amount that was estimated.

The company gave the lowest bid, but then charged us extra for things they said were not in the original proposal. We expected all knob & tubing to be removed, but after the contract was started the company rep said they would charge more to remove all of it. They used several technicians and the new ones did not know what previous ones had done. One technical wired the neutral for the new garage door closer to the metal conduit rather than running it back to the breaker box as it should be done. The company owner said since the city inspector did not find the problem we would have to pay extra for correcting the inappropriate wiring.
Response from VOLZ ELECTRIC INC
"MR. SHEPHERD IS A CONTRACTOR & VOLZ HAD WORKED FOR MR. SHEPHERD PRIOR, HE TOOK THE LOW BID FOR REMODEL PROJECT. THE SCOPE OF WORK CHANGED FROM A REMODEL TO A GUT REHAB. VOLZ INSTALLED WIRING THROUGH THE WALLS THAT WERE LATER REMOVED & WIRING HAD TO RE-SECURED DO THE CONTRACTORS CHANGES. IN ADDITION THE PROJECT HAD TWO ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS AT THE SAME TIME ON THE SAME PROJECT. I WOULD AGREE THAT THE PROJECT COULD HAVE GONE MUCH BETTER IF THE CONTRACTOR KNEW WHAT, WHERE, & WHEN. THIS PROJECT HAD PROBLEMS DUE TO SCOPE OF WORK BEING CHANGED. A SHIP SHOULD KNOW IT'S DESTINATION PRIOR TO LEAVING PORT. THOMAS VOLZ"

Company responded very quickly to our request for bid. Work was scheduled within three or four days of our signing contract. Workers arrived promptly for the scheduled appointment time and worked throughout the day. Work was very well done, clean up was exceptional and we have no issues with contractor.
