You can definitely find someone else to do it cheaper, but professionalism, promptness, everything else is a high 'A'.

The snowstorm of March 24 laid a huge chunk of an evergreen tree on the roof. Got several recommendations on tree companies and called around. Ended up going with Davey Tree (good response on the phone & good Angie's list rating). Jen in the office was great - highly customer oriented and personable, even went to get the sales guy (Ross) when I called back (didn't just throw me into voicemail). Ross came to bid the job when he said he would, and did not keep me waiting. EJ and Jake did the tree work when I was told to expect them, and did an outstanding job. My concerns were people not showing up when they said they would, leaving a mess, and receiving an invoice that didn't match the bid. I actually am kind of surprised that I didn't have to worry about any of that. It's kind of rare in today's business world to receive top notch service from everyone in a company that I deal with, but all four were customer oriented, friendly, and did such a great job. The invoice was exactly what was stated on the bid. I was also struck by how Ross and EJ love trees. I've used other tree companies in the distant past, and I don't remember anyone admiring or taking such good care of the trees in the yard before (it was just a job to the other guys). These guys know their stuff, they kept their word, and they were a pleasure to deal with. I will use them again.

The man who came out to give the estimate was prompt, curteous and I'm sure knows a good deal about trees. I'm not sure this is a bad price for all this work, but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend for trimming trees at this time. We have had them do work in the past and it went well.

Karl Dreyer from Davey's Tree Service was excellent. First and foremost, he understood we had an urgent problem and got the work done asap. We had roofers coming to put a whole new roof on the home, but they could not work until a large tree limb was out of their way. Our job wasn't going to take that much time, and so they moved things around to piggy-back with another job nearby to get us in quickly. Second, it looks from the ground at least like they did a great job. Third, they were pleasant to work with. I enjoyed talking with Karl. About what he is like as a person: it turned out that there were owls living in the tree and, unlike many other folks with potentially lower professionlism, he (quickly) researched the nesting habits of this particular species of owl so we knew it was okay to do the work. Thankfully it was. Fourth, they were reasonable. Davey's prices were 2/3 of Ray's Tree Service for both the tree trimming and winterizing treatment services. We had previously used Ray's Tree Service for years and initially contacted Davey just to get a second bid. Davey is now our new regular tree service. Overall, page-of-happiness material.

On time, efficient and expert in their field.

Davey Tree's bid was $2,400, next highest was bid $1,800. Lowest bid was $1,100 (but his bid was on the back of a business card.) We went with $1,500 guy who got it done in one day and did a thorough clean up job.

The trees at our new house had not been trimmed in years. Many were encroaching on the house and we wanted get more light into our backyard to improve the quality of the grass. We had a magnolia, 2 sweet gum, a maple, a pin oak, a willow oak, 2 catalpas and 2 linden trees all trimmed back and had lower branches removed to raise the canopy. We also had a 30 ft mulberry that was 1 foot from our garage removed and the stump ground out. The guys doing the work were great. The trees required them to climb and they were only here for 6 hours to do all the work. More importantly they cleaned everything up extremely well. You would have never known they were here, except for how great our trees looked. When we need tree trimming they will be the first call.

It went very well, they actually came to do the work faster then expected. performed the work to our satisfaction, cleaned everything up and made the whole experience very pleasant, this was the 2nd time they have done work for us. And their professionalism this the reason we hired them a 2nd time.

A large tree branch fell on our roof during a storm. I had used Davey for some tree trimming earlier this year, with great results, so I called them as soon as we heard the bang. A rep came over within the hour to estimate the work and the branch was gone by 8:30 the next morning. The staff was fast and professional. Great job!

Our property is rented out. They met my husband at the property to discuss the work to be done. He felt they were very knowlegable and was very happy with the proposed work and cost. They came on the date arranged and our tenants tell us they did a very good job. We will certainly use them again.

It was an overall good experience. estimate through cleanup the employees were professional and efficient.

The sales and installation went extremely well. They came in under budget and planted the trees expertly. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the lag time between accepting the contract and the installation of the trees. We waited about one month to get the trees planted. Our sales associate explained that the trees weren't ready or that the hadn't arrived or something. It was really no big deal and it was worth the wait. The trees look great. Our sales assoc. arrived to help the guys place the trees and helped me with a landscape design. We would use Davey again! Very pleased with the entire process.

They were very professional. They knew their trees, and they knew how to properly prune them. The tulip tree was in a hard to reach spot, so, they had to use a climber or a bucket lift. They had to load stuffs down because I had landscaping all around it.

Ross was very punctual and listened to what I wanted to have done to the trees. He offered some suggestions and insights into the tree removal and pruning of an ash tree. Ross provided a detail estimate of the work. During the next week, I talked to Ross and e-mailed him a few times regarding some of my concerns. He rapidly responded to my concerns and made me feel comfortable. The crew arrived on Monday morning. Ross's crew did a fantastic job. They had no problem removing the two silver maples and pruning the ash tree. They removed all the debris and cleaned up everything. As a bonus, his crew left me a good portion of wood for my fireplace. Two days later, the gentleman arrived to perform deep root feeding on the ash. He did a great job! Due to the weather, the stump grinding occurred a week later. The stump grinders called me, asked if I wanted the mulch, and where they should move it to. They also cleaned up after themselves. Just fantastic! I have used two different tree companies in St. Louis. I did not have a positive experience with those other tree companies as I had with Davey . Davey did a great job, were safe, and did exactly what they said they would do without doing any damage to my house. I would certainly hire them again in the future!

They were great. They had really good customer relations and made sure everything was done.

The salesperson/arborist, Ross, came and gave an estimate and he was very nice. He estimated the job would take about 6 hours. I got a quote from Davey and another tree company on Angie's list, but hired Davey since they were cheaper and arborist seemed more knowledgeable. This 6 hour job was drug out over 4 different days over a 3 week time span. Originally it was supposed to be 6 hours on one day I was led to believe. It was not explained to me when I booked them, that the tree removal would be one day and the stump removal would be another day. If you have similar work done, be advised that the stump removal guy is not on the crew that does trimming/tree removals, so you are looking at a minimum of two days for your project. When I made the original appointment on the phone to book Davey, I was told I would be given a call when the crew was on their way, but never received a phone call regarding their arrival time on any of the four days. The first day, two arborists stayed for 45 min. and then left since it was near the end of their shift. Of that short time, they spent at least 10 min. talking to the neighbor who lives behind my house. I saw this from my kitchen window while I was doing dishes. They came another day the next week and finished the majority of work. However, the neighbor's spruce needed additional trimming, so an arborist had to come a 3rd day to finish that. The fourth day was related to stump removal only. Overall, I am happy with the job Davey did and would hire them again. I ranked them a "B" rating though for the reasons mentioned above.

The estimator was very respectful and very knowledgable. He informed me that the they are required to attend classes to learn about the vegitation when they are hired. The estimator was a degreed horticulturist and I had the impression that he knew trees very well. He was on time and very honest about his advice. The reason I know this is because we have a pool with a tree at the back corner of our yard. There was a part of the pool decking that was shifting. My husband and I thought we would have to cut down the tree. The Davey estimator advised us that he didn't think the tree was the problem because of the way he knew that their root systems grew. He could have charged us a bunch to remove the tree for over $600 but he said it wasn't necessary. Instead we got it trimmed for $90. Davey tree workers arrived a bit late, but they called me early that morning to tell me that they would be delayed due to an evergency job and gave me an approximate time. I realize that emergencies happen, but just a simple phone call is all that is necessary. I appreciated that so very much. Communication with the customers is so important and they understand this. They then arrived slightly after the original time so they weren't really late at all. The two men were clean, neat, and professional, unlike some of the other tree service workers I've seen, which made me more comfortable with them being at my house. They greeted me, told me exactly how they would do the work and did the job. They cleaned up every bit of debri and left everything perfect. It took them about three hours for three large trees. They were respectful and so polite. You just don't see the respect and politeness anymore, but you will from Davey. The trees look GREAT! They still look like trees yet thinned out and cleared from the house, not chopped off with stump branches like some trimmers create. I honestly didn't know theses trees could look that good and still be that big. They were very skilled at what they did. If you hire them, make sure you get to watch. It is quite a treat to see them climb up the trees and swing through them as they chop and prune. The entertainment is free. I will have them back periodically to retrim the trees as they continue to grow. Originally, I got three bids. When the bids were in, it was between Davey and Ray's Tree Service. I chose Davey and was glad I did. They were just slightly higher but very competitive with their bid and worth every penny. My original decision was based on the fact that they were educated in their field.

I called to get an estimate for having a limb that was hanging over our deck and roof removed. I hoped to have the job done fairly quickly because we were going to have roofing work done soon. Ross came out the same afternoon that I called, accommodating my schedule and coming by after I got home from work.I explained what we wanted done. We discussed the work and he advised also having general pruning done at the same time, which made perfect sense to me. He took a look at our driveway and determined that they'd have to climb the tree because a bucket truck might damage our neighbor's tree which hangs over our driveway a bit. He assured me that all their climbers are arborists.As I have several family members involved in botanical enterprises, I was interested in hearing about the Davey company, the type of training and educational backgrounds of the employees. We did get a lower bid from another company but we went ahead a signed a contract with Davey.They showed up when scheduled. I was not home but my husband was there. He said he spoke with the crew and watched them work. The went about their work quickly, efficiently and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. He said he was very impressed.When I got home from work, the offending limb was gone and the tree was beautifully pruned.

Greg came to the house and I showed him what I wanted done with my tree's. We agreed on the price and scheduled the date and time, which was about a week away. I was told they would be at my home at 8am. At 9:30 I called the office to see if they were coming. I was transferred to Greg who explained that, because of the storm over the week-end they would not be here today. I told him I had taken the day off to be home and I would have appreciated a call since it was Wednesday and the storm was Saturday. Greg said "It's not my fault there was a storm. Too bad they don't appreciate their new customers. I will take my $2050.00 to someone else.

This company has certified arborists, so you get expert advice on tree care. They repair damaged trees from storms and bad weather.

I received a quote within 3-4 business days of requesting one. I had them price out trimming/pruning on each tree in our yard. At this time we opted to only trim the magnolia and red bud (they needed it worst and the magnolia was next to a power line). We did not schedule an exact day but let them decide when they could fit us in. Within about 1-2 weeks the work was done and they look great! I would recommend them to anyone needing tree work.

Ted and his crew arrived on time. They kept the chipper off my driveway as requested. Ted was friendly and professional, removed the trees as described, was careful of our lawn during the removal, and cleaned up all debris great. He removed a few extra limbs off surrounding trees which were too low at the end when I asked if he had time. Great job.

Estimator met with us in person (rather than just driving by and leaving a note like other companies) to discuss the two trees. He gave us his opinion, took into account what we were looking for, and made his suggestions. We decided that one of the trees was beyond saving and one should be heavily pruned. He was very nice and professional, and based on their pricing, I signed on the spot. One week later, the crew showed up at 8am (without the phone call I was told to expect). It would be nice to get that phone call, but since the trees were accessible from the street, its not a big deal. My wife went over what we wanted again with the crew and they went to work. We came home that evening and the one tree was removed and the other tree was nicely pruned. We were very happy with the work, except the stump from the removed tree was still there, even though we agreed them removing it. I called the office and they were very nice and explained that the estimator should have mentioned that the stump grinding is usually not done on the same day, but that they would take care of it as soon as possible. Next business day, the stump was gone. Couldnt ask for more. Professional work, great customer service and very good pricing.
