St Louis Concrete is the worst contractors I’ve ever hired. The owner, Jim Aubuchon, did such a terrible job with my driveway and patio that he agreed to rip and replace and no cost to me. Unfortunately, Jim is also a liar so he never honored the committment, which is in writing. As a result, I have been in an open lawsuit with Jim Aubuchon and St Louis Concrete for the past 2.5 years. In that amount of time, Jim has changed attorneys three times bc they tell him he has no chance to win, and or, he doesn’t pay them. I also would like to note that St Louis Concrete knocked down a cinder block wall of my home while escalating for my patio / setting up the concrete forms.

These guys did a great job - installed a four pad concrete patio in my back yard. They laid down plywood to prevent the equipment from damaging the lawn, and did an excellent job of cleaning up. The patio turned out really nice - good job and will recommend to others. Also, they performed the work on the week that was promised (approximately four weeks out) when I gave them the deposit - this was also appreciated!

I got three bids from contractors on Angies List and chose St Louis Concrete. The bids were very competitive but we wanted to get the work done quickly and chose them because they could start in a couple of weeks. They came out on time and the entire job took 2 days to complete. A few days later a hairline crack appeared in one of the slabs in the drive and on the steps area. I called Jim and he came out to look and take pictures and essentially told me concrete cracks. In a follow up email he advised me to call in the springand quot; after winter had taken its tolland quot;. In April I called to let him know the crack was much worse. He came out and agreed to replace the slab with the crack in it and caulk the area on the steps. I have not heard from him since. I have emailed him and called the office numerous times requesting he call me back. The first time I called the office I was told that my name was on the list and the work would be done in 3-4 weeks weather permitting. That was 8 weeks ago. I still haven't received a return call. I am disappointed my calls are being ignored. I would like for Jim to call me to set a firm date on doing the work he agreed to do to resolve the issue.

Bidding process was well done by the owner Jim Aubuchon . Bid from this company was complete, accurate and on time. Pricing was about the middle of the pack. I have found, during the complete renovation of my house, that one of the biggest areas of improvement for most contractors is how information, conveyed to the bidder by the customer during the estimating process, is conveyed to the work crew and job site foreman. St. Louis Concrete is still small enough that Jim stopped by the house during the job to talk to the foreman about details of the work to be performed. Everyone seemed okay with me (the customer) being involved with the decision making so that we achieved the results I wanted. This is good because there were a couple of changes that needed to made once the work was underway. The driveway looks great and I have read on at least one other contractor's Angie's List ratings how they didn't come back and back-fill the areas where the forms came out of the ground. Well St. Louis concrete did. But you're going to have to plant your own grass seed. I would certainly recommend them.

They were great. He showed up when he said he was going to. He got the bid to us when he said he was going to. The prices were reasonable and they did a very good work. He stands out to me as one of the better companies. The price was comparable to all the other bids that we received.

Jim Aubuchon, the owner, provided a written estimate of all the work to be done and a detailed description of the project tasks, costs, etc. Dealing with Jim was a real pleasure and we couldn't be more pleased with the finished product. His crew was very courteous and professional and arrived with their trucks and equipment on the appointed dates/times. All of the work was completed in accordance with the project specifications and although this type of work leaves a lot of dust and debris, the crew did a great job cleaning up, After the pour, they brought dirt in to fill in all of the holes, etc. and followed up by power washing the new surfaces as well as the apron and sidewalk in front of our home. I highly recommend St. Louis Concrete and would not hesitate to use the company for other work in the future.

I have a 3 car garage that is approximately 30 years old and the floor was cracking severely. Large chunks of concrete were popping loose. Jim gave me a bid that was a bit higher than others but he said they could get it done much sooner than others were quoting. Jim said they could get to it in about 3 weeks and they did. The work went very smooth. The first day they removed the old concrete, and the second day they poured the new. They cleaned up the driveway and street with a power washer at the end of each day.

They did a great job. We had lots of concrete to pour starting with a back patio that runs the length of the house that connects to a poured stairway that accesses the back of the garage. They also poured a new long single lane driveway that widens into a 2 car parking pad in front of garage. I think it took about 3 days to do, but we could not use the driveway for 10 days after. We are very pleased with the work done! They also put in a drainage spout in the back yard and a canal and grate at the bottom of our driveway to keep water from pooling in front of our garage. It looks very nice. I recommend them highly!

Jim was a pleasure to work with in solving the tear-out and removal of quite a bit of concrete and getting the backyard graded properly for drainage. Jim did a great job in working with me to determine the best solution for my needs - we went through several estimating steps and I appreciated Jim's consultation along the way. The crew did a very good job in the tear-out and clean up and an excellent job in the pour of the garage floor, driveway and sidewalk. The original plan called for only pouring half of the garage floor, but as the work progressed, the crew chief called me to advise me that the new pour could not be matched-up to the origianl half of the existing floor, as it had deflected downward enough that there would be a tripping hazard. The half we had left was not cracked and looked to be in good shape, but the crew chief was right and we were able to put in a single smooth pour. The incremental cost was not planned for, but it was the right decision. I appreciated the heads-up call by the crew chief rather than just going ahead as directed.
I would work with Jim and his crew in the future and and am very pleased with the results. After this work was completed, I had a landscaping firm complete the finish work on the backyard and after 6 months of checking drainage, Jim's crew got it right - the runoff is consistently flowing away from the home and the street presence of the home is great.

The project could not have turned out better.
Jim responded quickly to the request for an estimate. He provided a very competitive, detailed bid for the job. He throughly answered all my questions regarding the job before it was started, provided a Certificate of Insurance, and provided a receipt for my deposit.
Due to weather, he gave me an estimate as to when the job might start. It ended up he had an opening in his schedule slightly sooner than the original start estimate. The entire job was completed in one day (a Friday). The crew was punctual, friendly, and knowledgeable. They left the area as neat as possible when the left for the day. His crew returned to pick up the concrete forms on Monday-they also brought in dirt to completely fill in the areas around the new concrete.
I will use St. Louis Concrete again in the future when I have the need

They came out and gave an estimate, Jim came and we liked him, I went on Angie List and found the reviews, and they seemed favorable. I asked for 3 references from him and they all gave him good reviews. We called them to come do the job and the day they came it looked like it may rain, but it had not started to rain when they first arrived. Tom, the foreman, said it was a chance that they take to go ahead with the job if it looks like rain, we did not advise them to pour or not to pour. They went ahead with the job and it started raining so they put thin plastic over the work, and now there are foot prints in the concrete where you can see that they walked on it, marks from the kneeboards that they didn't cover up and marks from the plastic. Two weeks after they poured it, we noticed it had cracked at the edge of the patio, leaving about a two foot crack. We placed two calls to his office, and we were told by his office staff that he would be out to check on this. After eight weeks of not hearing from him we sent him a registered letter, basically telling him that if we didn't hear from him we were going to file a negative complaint on Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau. He did respond to the letter right away, and came shortly after this. He looked at it and said "yeah, concrete cracks." We pretty much asked him what could be done about it and he said he would come back and at no additional charge to us he would seal the patio. We asked if that would cover the crack and prevent any future cracks in the concrete and he said no. We asked him if it would continue to crack and he said he didn't know. But, we asked him how to fix it and he pretty much said it depended on how much more money we wanted to spend. Then he said there was a product that had some color or tint to it that he could apply, which was approximately $2500. That is where it stands, my husband and I weren't happy but we let him go, we told him we had to wait until we got his estimate before making a decision. He sent us the email for the estimate, and we have not contacted him any further, he hasn't contacted us either. Their workmanship warranty states that they "guarantee the quality of their workmanship."
Response from ST LOUIS CONCRETE LLC
"I am responding to the letter sent to you by the members. As she says in her letter she did her research on my company by reviews on Angie’s List and asking me for (3) references. As she states all responses were favorable to my company. We worked at her home on 5/3/12 and 5/4/12. They contacted me in regards to a crack that appeared in their concrete. When I met with them they complimented me on many things about their patio including slightly sloping the concrete up at their door instead of having a step. Overall their response was very positive. I discussed the crack with them. In no way was trying to be dismissive in regards to this matter. I was only trying to explain to them that concrete cracks for many reasons and all we can do when installing a patio, driveway, etc. is to try and control where it is going to crack. This is why “control joints” and “expansion joints” are installed. I’ve attached articles from the internet to help explain this. I did not want to be misleading to them when they asked if we could “cover the crack and prevent any future cracks”. I, nor anyone else could guarantee that there may not be any future cracking. Concrete is a durable building product that has excellent compression strength. Yet this same quality is responsible for concrete’s lower tensile strength or resistance to lengthwise stress. Concrete is affected by many things including its tensile strength, the earth’s movement and freeze thaw cycles, just to mention a few. In response to covering the crack, I wanted to be honest and not let them think I could cover it somehow that it would not reflect through over time. Covering the crack would just disguise it for a period but would eventually show through. I never said to them when they asked how to fix the crack that it depends on how much money they wanted to spend. I did offer to seal their patio at no cost. I did give them a price to put a decorative coating on their patio but this was only because they inquired about this. I did let them know that even putting a decorative coating on top the patio would not keep the crack from reflecting through. Their job was scheduled for 5/3 as they stated to you as the “work completion date”. We did prepare their job on 5/3 but actually did not pour it until 5/4. Rain had been forecasted that entire week. By the time we finished preparing the area for the pour it did look like rain. I decided to wait till the following morning of 5/4 to pour. As she states “it had not started to rain when the first arrived”. I’ve attached the report from the National Weather Service for the precipitation for 5/3 and 5/4. I think you can understand that being a contractor who works outdoors that I cannot run my business because it looks like it was going to rain. Rain was forecasted for both 5/3 and 5/4, as you can see from the report we only got a very slight amount of rain on the 4th and only in some areas throughout St. Louis. We did cover their patio as a precautionary measure. When I met with them in regards to the crack, they mentioned the marks in the patio but said they had faded. I told them as time went on, the marks would fade away more. They seemed to agree. This situation was left in the hands of the members; they were going to contact me after they had decided how they wanted to proceed. Had they contacted me to seal their patio I would have already completed this. I will still stand by what I had offered them: to seal their patio at no cost to them. I in no way tried to be dismissive of their concerns."

St Louis Concrete gave the 2nd lowest price out of seven different companies, the lowest price was by another company who had a poor BBB rating and no Angie’s list entry.
After receiving the estimate, I posted the deposit check on the Thursday, this was cashed on the Friday, over the weekend I received an e-mail asking if they could start on Monday due to another job postponing and I had a new driveway by Tuesday. Amazing.
The St Louis Concrete crew arrived and was working at 7am over two days. They could have done it in one day if the cement truck wasn’t delayed on the first delivery. This turned out to be a godsend, as the next day the team helped salvage some foot prints the neighbors dog had left overnight. At the end of the week, they removed the frames and delivered top soil to finish the job.
All communications, by phone, e-mail or in person were responded to quickly and professionally.

They were excellent. I found them off of Angie's List. I had a challenging, unique concrete issue that they had a solution for that other concrete guys didn't know how to tackle. It was a unique thing and they did an excellent job. The guys were great and cleaned up. It looks great and we get a lot of compliments. I liked that they gave a discount to Angie's List members. I've recommended them to neighbors as well.

They came out to give me a bid and really worked with me so they would do exactly what I wanted. He was on time and everything he said was fantastic. I felt comfortable with him because he had a wealth of knowledge that really put me at ease. The price was right about what I thought it would be. My wife was nine months pregnant at the time and we were really pushing to get this project done before the baby came, and he really went out of his way to do it. They even sent a congratulations card which I thought was nice.

The work was rescheduled once because of the weather but everything was well communicated by the company in advance. The contract was was specific and detailed. I had few questions and the representative inspected the site before and after the work was completed to my satisfaction. The bid was higher than the others but I was satisfied with my choice. The thoroughness of the contract and prompt response was why I selected this company.

I called St Louis Concrete about the middle of July. I scheduled an estimate and met with the owner Jim. He was very nice and professional. Jim emailed me a quote by the end of the next day. I also recieved a few other estimates and his was right in line with the others. A few weeks passed and I received a call on a staurday asking if they could come on Monday morning. The crew arrived at 7:30 am and wasted no time getting started. They spent the first day removing and grading the area for the driveway as well as placing all the forms. They also built the foundation of the block wall. Since it was 100+ degrees that day they left by 3:00 pm. The next day they returned at 7:00 am and poured the concrete and finished the block wall. On early wednesday morning, they returned and removed the forms and filled the voids with dirt. The crew was very professional and did a wonderful job. Jim came at the end of the project to do an inspection and to drop off the other paperwork. I was very pleased with the job they did.

Jim Aubuchon is the owner of this company. He is the consummate professional. He gave a bid, did the work in a day, and installed a beautiful brushed finish on his work. As a last minute thought, I asked that the walk to the house from the driveway be made ADA compliant. It is slightly wider and specially sloped. He did this for an extra $300. A month later, I broke my ankle and it was the best investment I ever made. My neighbors have actually given me compliments on the work. They wished they had used him instead of the company they used. I had another bid for $15,000 which included a little more work.

I met with Jim the owner and told him what I wanted to accomplish. He came up with various suggestions which expanded my thinking. I then picked out colors and finishes from samples, as Jim layed out an initial plan. Jim's crew then came out and removed the old sidewalk. They were very professional and did a great job in saving the old flagstone so I could use it for other projects. His crew came up with additional ideas as the work progressed to incorporate on the final work. They did a great job in not disrupting the yard around the sidewalk, cleaning up after their work each day, and restoring everything once complete. And the sidewalk itself turned out beautiful.

Project went pretty well, overall. There were some delays in initial scheduling but once they arrived the project was completed quickly and within budget. Foundation of the garage was done to exact specs for city inspector's office and had no trouble passing. Flat work (driveway) was done well but could have been poured to drain better. Driveway has since cracked in a few spots (maybe due to settling of ground underneath). I suspected some would occur but not this much.

I WAS VERY PLEASED. I NEVER MET THE OWNER. HE CAME OUT AND SENT ME A PROFESSIONAL ESTIMATE. THE MEN SHOWED UP TO DO THE WORK AS SCHEDULED. I WAS HOME ON SICK LEAVE AND WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIME. THE MEN WERE VERY NICE, POLITE, AND OBVIOUSLY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. THEY DID A GREAT JOB AND CLEANED UP QUITE WELL AFTER THEY WERE DONE. THEY RETURNED AS PROMISED TO COMPLETE THE DETAILS AFTER THE CONCRETE SETTLED OR DRIED.
