Excellent. He showed me each area that needed improvement and made suggestions as to how to accomplish the desired level of integrity. Most of the fixes were relatively minor and easy to do myself in a short period. The major expense items normally recommended were discretionary (increased attic insulation, etc.), and he said they probably were not worth the expense vs. the savings potential in my home--a refreshing approach, since other potential auditors were also contractors and indicated in initial contacts that they would be "happy" to install new windows, insulation, etc. David is not a contractor and only performs the audits, so he has no hidden agenda like selling his contractor services. His service was also considerably cheaper than his competition. His suggestions dealt with repairs the homeowner can perform himself, and he gives you the option of repairing and sealing leaks vs. replacing the windows, doors, etc. David was very professional and courteous, and promptly provided a detailed report with the results he found and his recommendations for improvement. He also followed up when I told him I had completed the checklist of repairs he listed in his report, and performed a re-audit at NO CHARGE, providing another report after that was completed. As the result of his audit and recommendations, I was able to lower the heat setting on my thermostat a full 2 degrees and still maintain the same level of comfort with fewer drafts. That will translate into a reduced gas and electric bill immediately, and should also reduce my air conditioning costs. I will get my investment back in a very short time, including the caulking, weather stripping, and about 8 hours of my time. I would highly recommend David to any homeowner who is handy and looking to save money on their utility bills, as well as conserving energy.

David Rabenau is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. In addition to the initial examination of my house he completed, free of additional charge, a follow on audit after I performed some of the recommended changes to the house. His price was great and he worked on the weekend to accomodate my schedule. David will recommend some companies to perform some of the recommended fixes in his report but I used another provider that I found on Angies List. I provided contact information and David happily met and spoke to this new company. I liked his willingness to expand his contacts in this way.

David provided a thorough, objective analysis, provided a detailed report with recommendations and possible resources. His input provided significant information when determining what new HVAC system to purchase. Highly recommend.

He looked at all the aspects of my home to save me energy and money in my home. This is such a valuable service. He told me that my windows were not installed correctly. When he came back as a follow up after some of my improvements were made, he showed how much energy I have saved. They did a great job, and I would recommend them to anyone.

David Rabenau spent about 5 hours collecting data and few days later submitted a report. In his report he pointed out several souces of energy loss and how to improve them. Most of them are just run of the mill stuff such as use CFL lights, install a hot water blanket for the water heater etc. One major recommendation was that my attic insulation is rock wool and that I do not have enough of the rock wool to get a R38 insulation. Based on his recommendation I contacted an insulation contracter. He came and inspected the attic and said that I have cellulose insulation and what I have is adequate for R38 insulation. I am glad he did not try to sell me something I did not need. I passed this info to David but he did not say why he misidentified the insulation. I would expect a person in this business to identify the insulation correctly. Another of his major cost recommendation was that our house is insulated too well and does not have enough circulation of fresh air and David recommended that we install an energy recovery ventillator. The cost to install a ventillator is about $2,500. However, at this time because of my experience with his recommendation for the attic insulation I am not sure how much faith I have in his calculations for natural ventillation.

The experience was excellent. He arrived a little bit early and spent quite a few hours auditing the airflow. He showed me a lot of stuff as he was doing it. He took pictures of where the air was escaping. He went down into the crawlspace and up into the attic. Within a couple of days he sent a detailed report with pictures and recommendations. It was very good. He is coming back in September to review the changes that I have made. He is also available to work with companies that are doing the work. I have emailed him a couple of times. He attached a checklist of what each type of company can do. He was very thorough and is going to be real helpful. The price would have been $50 less if he had not had to travel so far. It was a decent price for all the work that he did. He knew what he was doing and has apparently been doing it for a while. He also has done some classes. He drove up in a Prius so he believes in energy efficiency.

It went great. Mr. Rabenau found some troublespots and provided solutions in a very thorough written report. He patiently explained things to us as he went. He is a very knowledgeable individual. After we corrected the issues, he reinspected the house as part of the original charge to make sure the contractor had done a good job and the problems had been corrected.

David showed up exactly when he said he'd be there. After showing him the house and describing my concerns he was pretty much self sufficient for the rest of the day. He was very courteous and would do things like removing his shoes so as not to track dirt in my house. I was very impressed with all the testing equipment he had and would take time out to show me major problems that he discovered. Overall he spent about 6 hours at my house. The report that I received a few days later was very professional and loaded with thermal infrared pictures adjacent to a color photo of the same exact location. Very clearly showed where I was losinig heat.

It was an excellent experience. David was on time, thorough and professional throughout. He was very helpful, and found several issues that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. The inspection was well worth the money as it will guide us in planned improvements to our home.
