RSI Kitchen and Bath

About us

My grandfather founded RSI in 1947. Over the last seven decades, we have transformed our family business from its modest start into the largest kitchen & bath design center in the area. However, our core values have never changed. We still pride ourselves on our excellent products, personalized service and highly experienced team of professionals. But, what really makes it all worthwhile are the beautiful spaces we create, the relationships we have built and the families we have watched grow… just like our own family. To this day, RSI is a local, family-owned business and if you ever want to speak to the owner, just ask.

The work wasn't a straightforward job (vanity & sink had to be dismantled; tight space for hardware) but it was done well by the installer.

Jim Vandeven in appliances listened to our requirements and steered us toward a moderately priced ($1,400) Dacor five-burner cooktop, which compared favorably to a higher-priced ($2,300) unit from another manufacturer. He could have sold us the more expensive model, but really took the time to listen to what we wanted and understand our budget.
He was also very patient in making this sale. The unit he recommended had been sold out of the display, so he ordered a new display unit for us to look at before purchasing it. We liked what we saw and bought the Dacor, and Jim made sure it was ordered and delivered within the stated timeframe.  Rather than pressing us to use one of their installers, he was open to our using a vendor we knew. Bottom line, we couldn't be more pleased with our cooktop or the service we received from RSI, and will not hesitate to go to them again when we replace our wall oven next year.  We also would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

How did it go:  overall, pretty unsatisfactorily.   I went to RSI to get a custom designed vanity as 28" inches is an unusual size.  I knew I was going to pay more by going with RSI, but also expected a better product and service for that price.  The cabinet was not what I expected.
First of all, I wanted the cabinet to have a door on the left side, and drawers on the right side.  The hand drawing I was shown suggested that that was what I was going to get.  That was my first mistake,  NEVER EVER accept a hand drawing for something that you can't see in person or on a computer design screen.   The cabinet I got had a door that was 2/3 the width on the left and some very narrow drawers comprising 1/3 the face on the right.    Not only that, the proportions of the drawer front pattern totally does not match the pattern of the door. ( see picture ).   Notice the thin top and bottom edge on the drawers vs the door.  Furthermore, the drawers were crooked, however this was fixed with a repair visit.   The door and drawer closing hardware works fine.
The manager of RSI was prompt in getting back to me but all he offered me was a total redo ( at my cost ! ) to get the door/drawer proportions to my liking.   But on further review, I realized that that would cause problems with the sink drain placement so I decided to not pursue that avenue.
Then the remaining problem was the drawer fronts.  For some reason, the manager didn't seem to be able to or want to have the vanity manufacturer remake the drawer fronts correctly.  Instead, he offered that he could find a local company that could remake them, again at my cost!  This time, about $200.
fyi, the actual cabinet manufacturer is UltraCraft.  I had also copied them on the email chain with the RSI manager but never saw a response from them.
Obviously, this is not the place to do business with because every problem becomes your problem.

RSI's designer (Arlene) came up with very creative designs for our kitchen project, and was very helpful in decisions about appliances and materials.  She had good suggestions on where to find things that RSI couldn't provide.  She was also available by text off-hours.  Best of all, she seemed genuinely interested in our project.

I wasn’t sure what to do with having a forced rehab. I was floundering trying to figure out what to do. I asked one of the decorators there for help, and Heidi gave superb advice and service. She was absolutely excellent in every way. She attempted to understand the style of house and my colors. She worked with me to figure everything out, and it really helped pull together for me what I wanted things to look like. I ordered the bathroom tile first, so I had to place a second order for the other tile I had forgotten. She executed both orders quickly, so it didn’t take long at all to get the product. I would highly recommend them and would use them again in a heartbeat.

I like their professionalism. They made recommendations based upon what I was trying to accomplish. They were not trying to oversell. They said that what I was trying to accomplish wasn’t going to be worth the value of the dollar.

We were very happy with our experience with RSI Kitchen and Bath.

The cabinet lines that they represent span many price points.  In the end, we chose a semi-custom line that allowed us to have quality construction at a budget-friendly price.  Their selection range from the traditional to the modern.  We had the option of purchasing everything right down to the cabinet hardware and tile.  We took advantage of this with the bathroom remodel but not with the kitchen.  If we were to do it again, I would just purchase everything through them.  The time spent chasing down backsplash tile orders, hardware and plumbing was not worth the small savings.

We used their installation services for the master bath install.  The sub-contractors (plumbing, electrical) as well as their installers were professional and respectful of our house.  The carpet was covered to prevent it from being damaged as they went in and out of the house.  Someone came by every afternoon to clean-up the site.  There was no dawdling.  They arrived on time and with all the materials they needed to complete the job.  Since the kitchen remodel was part of an addition to our house, we used our general contractor to install the kitchen.  At the end of the day, we regret not having used RSI for that install as well.

Both for the kitchen and the bath remodels, we used their design services.  We worked with Brian.  He was very flexible, showing us different design options and listening to our wants/needs.  He was very knowledgeable and patient throughout the selection process.  And even though RSI did not install the cabinets in the kitchen, Brian was very conscientious and detail oriented regarding the install.  He made himself available to the general contractor to make installation easier and to ensure that we got the look we wanted.  There are so many details that, as a homeowner, we wouldn't have thought of but Brian did.  I was able to rely on him for many of the overwhelming decisions that had to be made throughout the process.

We did have a minor issue with the kitchen.  The cabinet over the hood was ordered incorrectly and one door arrived damaged from the manufacturer.  But RSI did not flinch, they just corrected the mistake.  They did not try to make something work that wasn't right.  It was reassuring to us that RSI is a professional company that stands behind their designers and vendors.

Our experience with RSI Kitchen and Bath was positive both times we've used them. They helped make the difficult task of remodeling much easier.  We would trust them again for future remodels.

My kitchen/ bath designer Chris Sullivan and her assistant Chad did a great job.  The size of the project was quite challenging, but they kept everything on track.  I was very impressed with their install team especailly Pat Brennan and his crew. They were very thoghtful to always cover my floors and to keep the disruption to a minimum.  I am so glad that they discovered a leak in my bathroom which was leaking into the kitchen  as it would have damaged my new kitchen cabinets.  My favorite feature is my new master bath complete with walk in shower.  This bathroom really looks like a master bath.

The showroom salesman was very professional and informative.  We  selected middle of the range cabinets as we are moving in a few years.  The installation went well except there was an additional piece of trim wood needed at the base of the sink cabinets which were strictly cosmetic.  I feel that was an oversight by the salesman.  We had to pick it up separately and pay $40.  For what we originally paid, their customer service could have picked up the $40.  However, the workmanship was quite satisfactory for what we paid and we would definitely use them again.

It was poor.  They installed the tile so it wasn't flat on the walls.  Tiles were installed improperly.  Used wrong grout.  Used same person to fix it who didn't fix it.  All the toilet paper rolls fell off and grout had to be replaced.  Installed a towel rack wrong.  Bathroom faucet was installed to a cracked board which cause a leak.  And then the fan was installed incorrectly.  They did not correct anything they did. Designer was an A rated job.

DESIGN We were very pleased with the design work from Adrea Jones and will work with her again on our next project. She not only had her own "vision" but worked with us when her vision and ours didn't perfectly match up: she listened, she responded, she understood. Because this was a remodel, there were some tricky parts to figure out, she really worked the details.
CABINETS We ordered cabinets and appliances from RSI. One cabinet and another piece were badly damaged upon arrival - both were replaced without question. Deadlines were met. Quality is good.
We are happy to recommend the services of RSI, we will definitely be back for a second project.

We recently made two separate applicance purchases from RSI -- a double wall oven and a cooktop.  Our house is about 35 years old and sizes have changed since the original kitchen was built. It was very challenging to install both appliances, but RSI did an excellent job.  The people were very professional, punctual and careful with the work area.

I contacted RSI to get them to fix a trash drawer that would not stay in all the way.  We purchased the cabinets about two years ago from RSI. They said they would have someone call to schedule an appointment.  Keith called in a couple days and set up an appointment.  We did and he was on time.  He fixed the problem quickly.  Keith is very professional and a real credit to RSI.

We bought the materials that were needed.  We are still getting stuff in for the work.  If the work goes well we'll be ordering more materials for kitchen remodeling.  We got the cabinets, but we are still waiting for some other things to come in.  We can buy from them and they would order it.  They are certified in certain areas of kitchen and bathroom products.  They are excellent.  We worked with Bryan Smith.  He is a certified kitchen designer and a lining specialist.  He did a nice job for us.  All our dealings were with him.  He is very professional and a great representative of the company.  The price of the materials is very, very fair.  I think the cabinet price is probably the best out there.  They also give us a 20% discount for all the other things.  Their price overall is very competitive.  It's a really nice place.

I started this (remodeling my kitchen) project in July with Daniela, a design consultant, at RSI. I was very inexperienced with any type of remodeling and her help was invaluable. She spent an hour with me upon our first (unscheduled) meeting when I was in the very early planning stage. I never felt pressured. After a number of phone calls and emails, I set up an appointment for her to come out to my house do take formal measurements and draw up formal plans. She was pleasant and professional and very helpful. I had picked out 2 different cabinets when I was in their showroom and in a little over a week I had a bid for both of them. Never having done any remodeling and no kitchen work of any kind, I was a bit surprised by the price. I took my plans (which I paid $250 for, with the guarantee that if I bought my cabinets from them the $250 would be deducted from the price) to a number of other places and shopped the competition. I was not doing a job like this without doing my due diligence. No one could beat their price and the features that were standard on the cabinets I liked, would have cost extra at the other places. I did not get their top of the line cabinets, but I did get exactly what I wanted. Daniella understood that we had a very specific budget and never pushed us into making decisions that we would not be able to afford. We could not afford to have RSI do the installation, so Daniela made sure we had everything we needed so that our carpenter could do the job. We could not afford to have them do the granite counters, (they use Hallmark and the bids were astronomical) and she never pressured us. She also made sure we had everything we needed to compare the bids we got at other places. The cabinets were delivered when promised, Daniela spent time on the phone with our carpenter when he had questions, and I could not be any happier with my new kitchen. I had heard from a number of people when I started this project that RSI was way overpriced. I found them to have a good selection in every price range and when comparing their cabinets to others of the same quality, I found them to be very competitive. I would use RSI and Daniela again and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in the market for cabinets.

On the front end Bryan Schmidt did a good job helping design the kitchen. However there were too many quality and communication issues within RSI for us to rate this company higher. I am grateful they finally stood up to the plate and replaced the drawers but it took too long. I will also state they are blessed to have Keith as a technician as he represented RSI well given all the problems we had. The cabinets are beautiful and the price was reasonable. With some better quality control and internal communications they could easily be an A rated company if these issues get addressed.
