We contacted John at New Urban Landscaping for advice and guidance on our very large yard (thousands of sqft) that includes a shade garden, rain garden, and native plant garden. He was very professional, very friendly, and very knowledgeable! He gave our entire garden a beautiful facelift. My wife and I moved to St. Louis last year and bought a home in the city. The yard had minimal landscaping, so it truly was a blank canvass. We contacted John Nekola at Urban Landscaping to work up a plan for the front yard. More curb appeal and solving an erosion issue compromising a front entry walk and steps was the only direction given. John returned with a plan which we loved. It was not over the top and it really suited our vision. He took the time to go over it, discussing each species of plant in the design. He answered all our questions and what our substitution options where on some of the plants. An underground drain for a downspout and ground cover planted on the slope has solved the erosion issue. The plan was nearly perfect and with very few changes, we implemented it. John is a sole proprietor, so he and assistant planted the entire space. It looks great, fits in with the neighborhood and our mid-century modern ranch well. John has checked it several times since installation and is always available to answer follow-up questions. We highly recommend John and his company for your landscaping needs. We plan to have him landscape the backyard in 2021.

John Nekola and his team from New Urban Landscaping began inspecting the landscape and taking measurements. After the initial inspection, John made a final assessment based on how the landscape would look with and without sunlight. Before work began, John personally delivered the estimate for my approval. Once approved, John’s team began removing the old shrubs and trees and the remaining stumps. Once tilling was completed, new plants and trees were arranged, an irrigation system installed and the area covered with mulch. Overall, I was impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, and care that John and his team demonstrated during the whole process. There is no doubt that I will make use of New Urban Landscaping for future projects and would highly recommend New Urban Landscaping to anyone seeking a quality landscaping service.

John with New Urban Landscaping did an awesome job revamping outdated landscaping in a time-efficient, cost effective and reliable manner. He is friendly, responsive, and takes pride in his work! When the project was done he even drafted a care plan for the various new plants so that I know how to care for them in seasons to come. Highly recommend.

John helped us with a rainscaping project in our (approximately 300 square foot) front yard. He created the design, then planted all the native plants and mulched everything. He also installed a rain barrel on our gutter. John was very knowledgeable about the plants, and designed the layout based on bloom time, height, and need for sun. I'd recommend his expertise to others!

We are extremely happy with the work that John did. He used his expertise of native plants to design a lovely garden for our front yard. John was pleasant and easy to work with and the work was done quickly and neatly. What I really appreciate is that despite our home being very modest and small, John treated our job with great care and professionalism - which we sometimes have not experienced with big companies.

It went great. John bought new, sun tolerant plants; removed and replanted the old shade plants, mainly hostas; improved the soil; and planted the new plants. In addition, he trimmed back my extensive, exuberant ivy and put down mulch in the entire garden.

John was a pleasure to work with. He designed a landscaping plan specifically suited to our taste and needs. He brought some really surprising and thoughtful touches to the design. He removed the 30+ year old bushes and installed everything quickly. We love the quality of the hard scaping and the plantings but appreciate the attention to our budget. I had contacted several different landscaping companies when I was looking to hire for work to be done on my backyard. I'm so very glad I chose New Urban Landscaping as John has made me the backyard of my dreams! From the start, John was very responsive and able to answer my questions about the project. He worked with me in designing something that would not only meet my aesthetic needs but also be practical since I have two large dogs that would surely destroy the whole yard if this wasn't kept in mind. It did not take long at all for John to design a plan and give me a date for installation! I could see in the design that he really took what I wanted into consideration. He was very thoughtful in choosing plants that were sturdy and be able to stand up to more as well as being able to incorporate my favorite plants into the yard. Once the installation phase started, I really appreciated John's continual communication with me as it kept me informed and involved. He made sure that I knew what the schedule was and included me in decision making at each phase so I had the option for any last minute changes or upgrades as I saw everything fall into place. I felt confidant the whole time John was working that he would execute the project exactly as I wanted and in a timely manner. Once he was finished, I could not believe what my yard had transformed into! I could not be happier with the results. I now have moderate amount of grass, dog friendly yard that still boast greenery and beauty. I'm looking forward to seeing all the plants mature and grow into the space. Thank you John, so much, from the bottom of my heart! You've truly made me the most beautiful yard of exactly what I had envisioned.

John/New Urban are excellent to work with. Great work, fair prices, and very responsive. John is readily available by phone and email to field questions, and has also provided great suggestions to us regarding our ideas about our landscaping. John shows up when he tells you he will and is very dependable. All in all it has been a great experience working with New Urban and we would recommend this contractor to anyone with landscaping needs.

John was professional from start to finish. He listened carefully to our requests, and designed an overall look for our garden with a detailed drawing. With his experience, he was able to suggest ideas and plants we would not have considered. Plants include Star Magnolia, Boxwoods and Hydrangeas. When we changed our mind on replacing all the grass, he respected our decision. The process was done in stages, and within two weeks everything was finished. John also provided us with instructions on caring for our new plants, and six weeks later the garden looks great. Several neighbors have commented on how they love the new look.

The work John did has exceeded my expectations.....the yard is so beautiful! I would recommend him to friends and family. Working with John was a pleasure. Hire him!

John did a great job. Very accommodating when setting up times to meet. He finished the job in a couple of days (faster than expected), and met me after a late day at work to go over how to care for the new sod. Looks great.

Our experience with them was very good. John Nekola is the owner and he came on time. He consulted with us. We thought he was fair in price. He really gave us an excellent job for what we got. He cleaned up after himself. He was very professional and personable. I think we had an excellent interaction with him and I would highly recommend him to anybody else who is looking for landscaping.

Everything went well. The results were excellent and we enjoyed a lot of wildflower blooms all summer and into fall. I enjoyed working with John, he is very responsive and reasonably priced. I was looking for someone to do landscaping with a preference for Missouri native landscaping and he fit the bill.

John really had to work to get those bushes removed, but he got them all out and planted false cypress, echinacea, tickseed, coreopsis, and rudbeckia. He put down sod where the euonymous was and it looks very nice. I am very pleased.

I've used John for several years now, in the Spring and Fall.  He's extremely knowledgable, very hardworking, and gets a great deal done during each visit.  I rely on him to tell me what needs doing, he knows far more about gardens than I, and I trust him to do what's necessary and not add unnecessary frills.

John and his helper are courteous, punctual and professional.  I have used them before and will again.  The walkway is gorgeous, and the plants are doing well considering I was laid up with a severe ankle injury most of the summer and unable to properly care for them.

It went very well. John is reliable, conscientious, hard-working. He understands plants and gardens and stands by his work. We plan to continue using him in the future. 

The job went slowly, but was well done.  John was working on another job or two at the same time, but we weren't in a hurry.

We are very happy with our finished garden. John removed the grass quickly and cleanly, and selected a mixture of bushes, plants and climbers most of which are native to Missouri and which are doing very well now. He also buried a watering system so that we don't have to spend time fussing with a hose. His knowledge of what to plant and where is impressive and he listened to the kind of garden that I wanted and really made thoughtful plant selections. He was very professional and always did very neat and tidy work. He's a great guy too! We plan to ask him to do some work in our back yard too in the near future.

John did a very good job and we were very pleased.  He purchased bushes and plants for us that would do well in the areas in which they were being planted.  He made some very good choices as everything seems to be thriving.  Before John, everything we planted seemed to die.aw
