In my experience, I learned that a Handymen/Contractor needs to be Hire BY THE JOB. Please BE AWAREthis man is 68$ in Hour. It is best to NEVER PAY BY THE hour unless it is a crucial emergency that would take an hour or two with a TIME LIMIT. I tried to talk to him yet He stormed out of my house. He didn't try to solve the matter instead sent the claim to the court to get more money. He said, "I wasted his time" when he charged for all the time he thinks he should be paid Including the "Free" estimate and the Lunchtime while making a personal phone call. It took him 2 hours! to reattach trim around my door that already had some pieces cut. I feel that the job was stretch out Too LONG for an "experience" carpenter. It certainly was my lost yet it can prevent other people from being taken advantage off when hiring a Handymen or contractor. Unfortunately, I couldn't fight the case with this man because I was in the middle of getting the house ready and having the worry of a family member being in the hospital.

Mike communicated with me to schedule the work on a 'good weather' day. (Soil could not be too soft; had been raining.) He arrived on schedule and completed the work within 2 - 3 hours; the slabs were leveled (to my satisfaction) using a pry bar to maneuver the slabs and adding sand as needed to build up the low spots. The price was very reasonable.

It went very well. He knew what he was doing. It was not a matter of just changing a washer in an old faucet. He had to grind down the seat to stop the drip. Would have given him some more projects but he was too busy at the time. He evidently put me on priority status for my leak problem.

Mike Schwartz was very professional and amicable. I am really glad we were able to work with him on our home projects. He was very diligent in the work with a particular eye for details. For example, when staining the deck he did several coats as the wood had never been stained before during past 9 years. He went ahead and repaired several of the lose deck railings. He made us a custom back gate which looks pretty darn AWESOME! I wish I can have him on a retainer, because he is so GOOD. I highly recommend Mike to anyone who is looking for a: Reliable, Professional, Kind, Fair and Diligent person to work on their projects.

I was impressed with Mike's responsiveness, informing me about potential issues and providing education throughout.  He was prompt and I could tell he has done this type of work before and really knew what he was doing.  When I was somewhat confused about what I had to supply, he was very clear and when I got something that was not correct, he went out and got what was needed to get the job done correctly.

Everything went quite well. I contacted Mike and he provided a written estimate in a couple of days. From the date that I received the estimate, it was only a couple of days before the work was begun. The work required installing drywall, painting, removing a door and relocating it to a different location, removing and installing baseboards, removing a closet system and bi-fold doors and relocating them. The work took a little over five days. Thankfully, Mike took measures to prevent dust from flowing throughout the house which I greatly appreciated.

Mike was great to work with -- very quick. He called back the same day, came out to see the job the next, and completed the repairs the very next day. Quality of work was great, and Mike even did a bit extra on the outdoor outlet to help ensure that the issue doesn't happen again.

Mike is very personable, and I booked him to remove our carpet and linoleum and tear out a tiled alcove in the kitchen over the phone based on the Angie's list reviews. He quoted me 1200.00 and that is what I paid. We live out of town and the house was vacant, so he was unsupervised. He used a "helper" named Domonic to do some of the work, I'm unclear as to how much. The linoleum and carpets were removed without hardship. However, when he was removing the alcove he choose to cut all the electrical wires running through the wall, versus leaving them in place. So, when I arrived from out of town, none of the electrical worked in the house. I immediately called an electrician and he gave me a scathing report of his findings and told me whom ever did my work should not be allowed back in the house and quoted me around $700 just to fix the problem. I called another electrician who was equally distrubed by his findings and said similar things about the person who cut all the wires, and quoted me $1200 to fix the problem. I called Mike and told him what the electricians said and how much it was going to cost me to have his mistake fixed, because I still had no electric. He said he would just fix the electric that it was easy and would be no problem. I told him I wanted an electrcian, someone licensed to do the electrical repair. He said he was working with an electrcian on another job who was licensed in Webster Groves and would have him come by, if this electrician said the same thing as the others, then Mike would help him fix the problem and cover the labor costs. So, the electrcian came out and said pretty much the same thing as the other two electrcians, which again was not complimentary. They did work together to fix the problem, but Mike did not pay his labor costs as he stated, instead said he wasn't going to charge me for helping the electrician. This was not the resolution agreed upon and therefore we terminated any further service we had planned for him. It cost us $600 to fix Mike's mistake and that was with Mike helping the electrician which I'm assuming keep down some of the labor cost. I would not use Mike again for anything other than general, simple handyman duties, as I'm not sure he understands the scope of his abilities, which can be dangerous.
Response from Mike's Maintenance
"Member was told by 2 electricians that cutting the wires created a major problem, and she believed them. The electrician she hired to do the work assured me, and tried to assure Maggie, that removing the wires that were in the wall she needed torn down cost him, and me, about a half hour of time figuring out exactly what they fed. I asked him to be honest with me and if, by my cutting the wires really made his job that much harder, I would provide restitution to Maggie and her husband. He had to rewire the 4 circuits anyway, which was the bulk of the work. I helped him as a laborer to save him time running back and forth for him. I did this as a favor to Maggie and Mike to help save them some money, I care about my customers that way, and show them, in deed, not words. The job was done in 4 hrs. He charged Maggie $600 and she believes I should have paid for $400 of that. I have been remodeling for over 25 years and tearing out walls, more often than not, requires cutting water lines, gas lines, drain lines, and almost always electrical wiring. I'm very sorry Maggie and Mike could not be assured, by the electrician and me, that rerouting the 4 circuits was the bulk of the work and cutting the wires was a minor inconvenience. I was surprised and shocked to see her negative report on Angie's List. I wish her well in the completion of her remodel project."

Mike was awesome to work with. He came a day before to check to see what he would need to replace the outdoor sillcock and did not chrage me for two trips. He also noticed my airconditioner unit was really dirty inside and needed to be cleaned for better performance. He took the time to do this and to show me how. He gave me some great tips on other things as well. He is very laid back, nice and professional. He does quality work at a very reasonable price and his knowledge and experience are obvious. I will definitely use Mike's services again!

He is very very friendly and nice. He knew exactly what to do. Mike had it fixed within about 2 minutes. He was very neat. It was an absolute bargain and I was so happy to have Mike do this work for me. We even talked politics afterward. He couldn't be nicer and he is a great guy. From now on I will call him first.

Mike arrived on time, was friendly and courteous, and assessed the tasks to be performed. I had four shutters needing to be attached to two exterior windows. Eight had already been attached by a contractor two months earlier, who did not return to complete the job. Mike observed that half of those shutters had been attached upside down. (It was barely noticeable, but I'm still amazed I did not notice earlier, as I am extremely picky!) MIke offered to correct them, which he did amazingly fast and beautifully. As always (in the almost six years I have employed Mike for work inside and outside our home) the quality of Mike's work was outstanding and his rates exceptionally reasonable. He is always honest and realistic in his assessments, which I deeply appreciate. Having said that, at times he has accomplished the near-impossible with some of the challenging repairs in our home! Will continue to hire Mike for years and years!

I trust Mike implicitly. I’ve trusted him to be in home without me several times, and wouldn’t hesitate to continue to do so in the future. He is extremely professional, intelligent, knowledgeable, and punctual. Mike is incredibly talented at both maintenance and construction. I consider him to be a good friend, and he is a true pleasure to work with. He really thinks about projects thoroughly, and doesn’t stop working until everyone, including himself, is fully satisfied.

"The Member is one of my first customers. It is a pleasure to do work for her. We're "business related friends" and I don't charge her every single time I do something for her. I have a few other customers with a similar relationship. Many thanks to the Member for her kind words."
