We have been using Horstmann brothers for over 10 years now for all lawn, shrub and flower maintenance for our home. Without exception, they are professional, extraordinarily good at what they do and very customer service oriented. The owner, Paul Horstmann, is simply one the best professionals you'll ever work with. I can't say enough good things about this company and how pleased we've been with their service throughout the years. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a first rate lawncare company!

BEWARE: Many Issues with this service provider. I would avoid using this company for your home. Our situation was unique, but note the other reviews.  
Problems: Work Quality issues, slow or no response, caused damage to home.
We purchased a home in 2013 where the prior owners had Horstmann Brothers install an irrigation system. The system has three zones and digital timer. When we purchased the home, we had them set it up and show us how to use the system.  Shortly thereafter, the main valve box pipe broke where they had sealed it.  While we were away, the system flooded our basement causing $12,000 in damage to our finished basement and ruing a lot of personal items.
Our insurance adjuster, our plumber and the service technician from Horstmann all said the piping system they installed had failed and their pipe connection broke. When we approached the owner and manager of the company for some sort of remedy-- they avoided returning our calls and changed their story.  Due to the nature of the system, insurance covered only a small portion of the cleanup and repairs.  Despite contacting the BBB and Missouri Attorney General, we received no remedy from Horstmann.  We did not expect them to cover the entire damage, but we asked for a variety of remedies... services or some compromise. They refused and hid behind a series of various "warranty" levels they offer.  They later changed their own assessment of what caused the pipe to break to avoid helping us out.  Had we known how they would refuse respond to our requests for a remedy, we would have filed a lawsuit for these damages. 
The company we hired this year to repair the system, noted the shoddy workmanship. 
This kind of experience can make you really scared to entrust your home to such "service professionals."

They are very great and professional. I have always been happy with them.

They are good. They are prompt and professional. I never had any issue with them. I would use them again in the future.

They came out and did fine. I was pleased with their work.

I emailed the owner that I would like to have them do my drive and walks and within one hour the work was done. I have used this provider for my lawn and properties in the past. I am going to have them do my mulch and bed prep in the summer as well this year.

They were very responsive and great to work with for the backyard where they were putting in new sod. However, one of their workers ran a tractor over our newly poured concrete sidewalks and broke a piece. They agreed to repair the broken concrete and wanted to use their workers to remove the concrete and pay the cement contractor. I had no problem with this. However this then dragged out through December 2012. I decided not to press it though 2013 until this November. When I contacted the owner this December he sent me two checks to pay for all of the repairs. They did not follow up as they should have.

On 4/17/13 I met with Bob and Chuck. My main interest was having the garden and borders edged, weeded, pre emergent application, and mulch over the beds. They made suggestions about removing shrubs, what they'd replace them with, and a couple of other things. Each time they mentioned something new I asked them to give me a separate estimate for those items as my primary goal was the garden beds. It seemed that we had a good meeting and walk through of the job, they said they'd send an estimate.
 
After a couple of weeks passed with no contact from them I called and left voice mails with both men and included my email address hoping that might expedite things.  
On 5/15/13 I called and was able to speak with Bob, he said he'd email the estimate right away.
Today is 6/9/13 and I still haven't heard from anyone at the company. I found another company to do the work I needed and some additional work including tree and stump removal, and hedge trimming.

I had Horstmann install an irrigation system in the front and back. This was the first contractor that showed up on time (early actually) for their initial appointment. When we agreed to the work and price, they showed up on time and did a tremendous job. Everything has been working great for months. What really stood out to me is our landscaper accidentally cut the water line on a Friday afternoon after laying new sod on a very hot day. I called Tim at Horstmann and he arrived 60 minutes later, fixed the leak, adjusted all of the sprinklers one more time to ensure proper coverage on the new sod. When I asked him how much I owed for the call he said "Nothing, I heard the words new sod and knew I had to get out here and get your system working". Talk about A+++ service.
Since then I have had a different experience. I wanted fall maintenance done on my lawn and after multiple calls and promises I would hear from a sales person, no one ever caleld back. I let it slide too long and now it is too late. But I still give them an A for that initial experience and chalk the latest issue with a poor sales person which I hope they will address.

The salesman sent a bid throughout the years I used the company and the costs kept rising more than 5% each year. The work was good work but the cost was very high compared to other companies I was getting bids from.  I try to stay loyal to family owned, st. louis companies but could not afford to stay with Hortsmanns.

They did a good job for the first two years. Jim, our contact would almost never return phone calls. It took 3-5 calls to get a response. He's worthless as a customer service rep. The third year, the quality was terrible. Poor edging, grass clippings everywhere, uneven mowing. When we finally got to speak to Jim, he apologized and told us that he could no longer employ illegal aliens and the people he had now were very hard to train. We gave it a few more weeks and then fired them.

Their pricing was reasonable. I thought they could've done better. They did a very good job with the deep root fertilization of the trees, but I did not use them again for any landscaping or yard clean-up.

They did provide us with a quote. They were very quick and professional. They were punctual. They took everything away with them. Everything went well.

Their work was very satisfactory. They came when they said they would and they were within the estimate they gave me. They called to see if I had paid the bill and I told them they sent it to the wrong address so they sent me one online. Everything was quickly resolved. They were doing the work because we don't live in this house all the time. We have two houses and I went to the lake for the summer. They sent the bill to the house in St. Louis and there was nobody there to pay it. They are reliable, timely and their prices are reasonable. I didn’t compare them with anyone else because I didn’t have a lot of time. I thought it was going to be more expensive than what it was. I never did see the work because I was out of town. They did the work within the timeframe that I asked them to do it. The person I dealt with was professional.

They are very professional. They are very responsive, you get personalized service. They are very knowledgeable and skilled. I would recommend them to others.

They were on time and on budget. I was so pleased with their service I now have them maintaining the lawn.

One of the employees came to our house one evening with a few lights to try around various trees and against our house. We decided which areas we wanted to highlight, then they came back within a few weeks to install everything.

ALWAYS PROMPT TO ANSWER CALLS AND PROVIDE AMPLE INFORMATION. A TRUE PLEASURE TO DO BUSINESS WITH. I AM SURE THAT I COULD HAVE FOUND A LESS EXPENSIVE COMPANY, BUT THERE WAS NEVER A MOMENT OF DOUBT WITH DOMIEN.
