"We are sorry that this bad review has been here for so long without a response. We were unaware of its existence, but we would like to respond now. 1. As any remodeler can tell you, the size of a space is no guarantee of its price. Bathrooms are usually a lot more expensive than any person unfamiliar with the trade might expect. However, skilled tradesmen such as plumbers and electricians must spend much more time (and therefore incur more cost) in the smaller space of a bathroom than elsewhere in the house. 2. This particular customer was confused about the subject of allowances. An allowance means that your contract contains a specific dollar amount for a specific portion of a job (i.e. electrical, plumbing, etc.). If the actual amount is less than the specified allowance, the client would be credited for the difference; if the actual amount exceeds the allowance, the client would be charged extra. For example, we could set an allowance for cabinet hardware for a kitchen at $300. If subsequently the selected hardware costs only $200, then the final invoice would reflect a $100 deduct from the total. The purpose of an allowance is usually to enable a contract to be signed (and thereby move a job into production) even though we might not have all the necessary information to provide the customer with the actual cost of an item or service. Allowances are different from an estimate because they are included and EXPRESSLY DOCUMENTED IN A CONTRACT. When a contract includes an allowance, it will state that it does. If the contract does NOT mention allowances (and you sign it), then the stated price is what you will pay, regardless of whether you feel the process was "easier than planned." A signed contract is a binding sales agreement, not an estimate subject to negotiation. 3. We are sorry that this customer feels mislead, because we always strive to maintain a completely clear and straightforward sales process. Usually we are very sucessful, but occasionally clients may misunderstand and we apologize if we unwittingly caused any confusion. We do our best to explain our policies, but if something is unclear, please ask."
