I spoke with the owner, Mike Dryden, on a Thursday relative to some plumbing work on a duplex in Lemay. I expected to receive a call or an e-mail with an estimate for the job. The following Monday I received a call from him stating that I owed him $ 2,000 for work performed over the weekend and that there would be additional parts and labor charges for him to complete the job. Initially I thought he was joking. There was never a written or verbal estimate given for this job and no approval was ever given for the plumber to start the job. The plumber had asked another sub-contractor for the key to the property and the subcontractor, assuming the plumber had permission to access the premises gave him the key. I have asked multiple times for a detailed line item invoice which the owner of the company refuses to supply. HE has stated "you have everything you need." He told me the total was $ 2,000 and that $ 1,000 was for parts and $ 1,000 was for labor. I have priced the parts individually at Home Depot and the total cost is less than $ 250. Additionally he stated that he had "purchased some extra parts" to complete the install of the ice maker etc. and would supply these parts to me. This has never happened. Additionally, this man is supposed to be a "Licensed Master Plumber" but pulled no permits to complete the work as required by county ordinance. He left all his scrap etc. on the property, disposing of none of his waste. Acquaintences had told me this was a young man just starting out on his own and that he was good and hungry! I had another bid from a licensed contractor which included permits for $ 1,000. Had I been provided an estimate up front, I would have absolutely told him no way. Ultimately I negotiated to pay him $ 1,500 (50% more than the other bid for only half of the job) and told him his services would not be needed any longer. While he did ultimately provide me with a lien waiver, as of this review I still have not received the additional parts or the detailed invoice as originally requested. Steer clear of Dryden Plumbing.
