I did not have and appointment, which you really need one going to Big Bend because they're so busy. They were having a busy day, but fit me in just as the crowd dissipated. I handed them a list of repairs/maintenance from an auto dealership I was using to repair my car, which kept getting longer and longer each time I went to have something on the list taken care of. In the end the list from the auto dealership escalated to more than $3000., work which I could not afford to get done and was not having issues with the car, so wondered why the list kept getting longer and longer. Big Bend checked and double checked everything on the list and told me I did not need any of that work done. They confirmed what I thought all along, topped off my transmission fluid and sent me on my merry way and didn't charge me a dime. I will definitely return for all my maintenance and repair needs, feeling they could have taken advantage of that long list if they wanted to, but they did. I definitely trust them.

When my mechanic retired he recommended that I use Big Bend Auto Center and I have not been disappointed. They do great work for a fair price and can almost always get me in promptly.

They're always good. They're always professional. It took less than a day for the work to be completed. The workers were fine. I don't have any complaints or suggestions for them.

As always - excellent service for a fair price. I have been bringing our vehicles to Big Bend Auto for more than 30 years. The service has been consistently excellent: competent, honest, and attentive. It's a small shop, but the quality of work is as good as it gets.

THESE ARE THE GUYS WHO SAVE ME AND MY CARS. YOU WILL NOT FIND A MORE HONEST GROUP OF MECHANICS AROUND.  FOUND THEM HERE YEARS AGO AND HAVE BEEN GOING EVER SINCE. I AM NOT A CAR MECHANIC SO I DEPEND ON THEM TO GIVE ME THE STRAIGHT HONEST TRUTH AND SERVICE ~ AND THAT'S WHAT I GET.
GIVES ME PEACE OF MIND. LAST WEEK WHEN I HAD MY NEW USED CAR TOWED TO THEM THEY WERE VERY VERY BUSY HOWEVER MADE TIME FOR ME.
APPRECIATE ALL THE GOOD WORK AND NICE HUMANE DEEDS THEY DO FOR ME AND ALL OTHERS I'VE REFERRED TO THEM.  THE OWNER RUNS A TIGHT SHIP AND EVERY GUY IS SO VERY PROFESSIONAL!

There was a little delay calling me back to pick up the car, but I picked it up before they closed, and the patch has held just fine. They are a small, local shop, and have dealt with me honestly so far.

HONEST BEST MECHANICS!!! FOUND THEM ON ANGIESLIST YEARS AGO & HAVE HAD ALL OF MY CARS TAKEN CARE OF BY THEM EVER SINCE. THEY DO NOT "OVER REPAIR", HOWEVER THEY LET ME KNOW WHEN MY FRONT BRAKES HAVE A CERTAIN % REMAINING SUCH AS 70% LEFT AND REAR BRAKES = 50% TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE. WILL USE THEM FOR ALL MY CARS

Price charged exceeded work performed on 2006 Saturn VUE. I have never paid this amount previously and was not advised of the charge prior to work being done.
Response from Big Bend Auto Center
"We are not sure why this customer is unhappy. They came to us wanting an oil change and a tune up. She did not request that we call with an estimate. We performed the work the customer wanted, the work was done correctly and finished on schedule. We called to let her know the vehicle was ready and gave her the total over the phone. When she picked the vehicle up, she did not seem upset about the price, and if she was, we would have gladly explained the charges in detail, avoiding this situation entirely. Obviously, the customer has never had a tune up performed on this vehicle, so she should not be justified in saying " I have never paid this amount previously". Also, giving us a C grade on Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism does not make sense since we excelled in each of those areas. The labor time to replace the 6 spark plugs in a 2006 Saturn Vue V6 is 1.4 hours. We also cleaned the throttle plate and scanned the computer for codes and failure trends. The total labor charge for the tune up was $142.50 which is $95.00/hour (our labor rate) times 1.5 hours. The spark plugs we installed are Iridium, which is an expensive spark plug, but what is recommended. A less expensive copper spark plug is available, but using a non-approved spark plug could turn on the check engine light due to a misfire. Less expensive spark plugs have to be replaced more often, so installing a premium spark plug is financially wise. The 6 Iridium spark plugs were $119.94 so our charges are right in line with what other shops would charge using comparable parts and an ASE Certified Master Technician with Advanced L1 qualifications performing the repairs. It is unfortunate that a supposed lack of communication and perceived high prices have displeased this customer. We have attached a scan of our work order for review."

Disclaimer: the above date of service is incorrect. Big Bend Auto Center was unable to help me retrieve it because their records are not computerized. That being said I've never dealt with a nicer bunch of guys, Steve and Mike in particular.
The transmission on my car failed at about 90,000 miles. Big Bend Auto Care acquired a rebuilt transmission for the exact make, model and year of my car with only about 40,000 miles on it. The car was in the shop for the repair only a couple of days, which I knew going in. The cost for the transmission and labor was $2400, which beat my expectation!
I have been using Big Bend Auto for a few years now and they have always been accommodating, regardless of the complexity of the repair. I surely will be returning whenever I have need of auto repairs/maintenance.

We live in Seattle WA. My daughter goes to school in St Louis. We had to leave her car in St Louis (Ford Escape 2002) during her summer break from school while she came home to Seattle. We had someone start it a couple of times during the summer to try and keep the battery charged. But when we returned on August 25, it wouldn't start. Turns out it had not been started for a couple months. We called AAA. They couldn't start it. It was a more serious problem than a dead battery. I found Big Bend Auto on Angie's list about a month prior and made an appointment via email for an oil change and to have everything checked out to get the car ready for the school year, so they were expecting to see us. Tom replied promptly to my emails and was always very accommodating. We were late for our 9am appointment on the 26th due to the AAA call and towing process. We finally got the car there about 3pm. They were VERY BUSY due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. I was flying back home to Seattle on Wed the 28th. My goal was to make sure my daughter had reliable transportation/repaired and serviced car before I left. When I called the next day mid-morning I was told they hadn't had a chance to get to my car yet but they would call as soon as they had news. I called again at about 3pm. Tom answered and thankfully had some preliminary info that the fuel pump appeared to be the problem and he was very encouraging that they could get the work done by the following afternoon before my flight was departing. Sure enough, Tom called the next morning to confirm the work and pricing and again about 2pm to tell us the car was done and ready.
We picked up the car, said our good-byes, my daughter drove home to her St Louis apartment and I headed to the airport to catch my flight. Very grateful to Tom and the other guys at Big Bend Auto for coming through for me!

"Even with the hectic schedule because of the Labor Day weekend, we were able to accommodate this customer. An ASE Certified Master Technician (CMAT) with the L1 Advanced Engine Performance Certification was assigned to your vehicle, meaning the repairs were done correctly. Thank you for choosing Big Bend Auto Center. If your daughter's Escape needs any service, please give us a call."

The car shakes whenever you apply the brakes.  They said it would get better after driving for a while, but they never did.
Response from Big Bend Auto Center
"This customer has been coming to us for many years, and has always had a pleasant experience as far as we know. We are flabbergasted that he did not stop in to discuss this first. Comparing a $59.95 brake job to what we did is like comparing apples to a cider mill. The customer brought the vehicle to us for the Missouri Safety and Emissions inspection. We found that the brake pads were too thin, which is normal for a vehicle with over 60000 miles .We always replace the brake rotors since they are the other half of the friction surface. Some shops machine the rotors and reinstall them, but this machining operation removes metal from the rotor, making it thinner. Thin metal warps faster than thick metal, so it is our policy to replace brake rotors with a brake job. Other shops do nothing to the rotors, trying to compete with the non-existent $59.95 "reline". A normal brake job includes replacing the front brake pads and rotors, lubricating the caliper slides and mounts, and cleaning and adjusting the rear brake shoes. This is typically about $250.00 parts and labor using quality parts and having an experienced, ASE certified technician perform the repair. A week later, the customer returned complaining of a low brake pedal. We found that the master cylinder was bypassing internally. Again, it is not uncommon to have a master cylinder fail at 60000 miles. Some last longer, others less. We replaced the master cylinder, and the low pedal complaint was resolved. We believe we charged a fair price compared to other shops in the vicinity. When a price is visualized without knowledge of what is involved, anything above that conceived price is considered "too expensive" even though the price quoted is in line with other shops. As far as the F grade on Quality, Responsiveness, Punctuality and Professionalism, our past reviews on this site offer proof that we routinely receive an A grade on these categories."

My complaint to them was that my brake pedal went to the floor.  After their inspection, they called stated I needed new front brakes, [even showed me what supposedly were my worn parts]!  Trusting they would do the right thing by me as a long time customer I gave my approval.  I was then floored when they presented me with the bill for $401.46!  I expected perhaps $100 dollars at most.
Many shops advertise $59.99 front or rear relines.  Even with extraordinary extras, I could not conceive of a $400 bill!
I have my copy of the bill, and am willing to provide a copy of same.
Since I am now a proud member of Angie's list I have a means to address this issue.  Thank you.

Comparing a $59.95 brake job to what we did is like comparing apples to a cider mill. We determined the fault was with the master cylinder, which caused the brake pedal to go to the floor because the fluid was bypassing internally. As part of our complete brake inspection, we always pull all 4 wheels and check each wheel. We saw the front brake pads were thin and recommended that they should be replaced at this time. We always replace the brake rotors since they are the other half of the friction surface. I was able to arrange an appointment for a time at my convenience within 2 days of my initial phone call.  When I arrived, they offered me a ride back home. I declined, but only because I wanted to check out the plant nursery a few feet down the road.  Although the inspection took longer than expected, it was completed within the day.  I had requested that they review some things that were mentioned in my owner's manual, and they didn't charge extra for it.  They did mention that my timing belt was past due to be replaced, but that I could probably wait awhile before replacing it.  There was absolutely no pressure, and they were very friendly.  Would definitely use them again!

I had a very good experience, they were professional, shop was very clean, one of the cleanest I have seen. They were on time, and fit me into the schedule. They were very considerate. Even offered a ride as I was new to the area and did not have transportation back. They gave me a quote for another repair that was very reasonable and explained things in detail. I found them through stellar reviews on angies list and would definitely recommend them to others.
