BETTER RATE TREE SVC

Unprofessional, discourteous, unreliable. We scheduled an appointment in July 2014 to get a quote to cut down a large dead tree in our yard. Dennis came out and gave us a fair bid. We called him on Monday to accept the quote and schedule. After leaving messages for a call back to confirm that Dennis could still do the job on Friday as he had indicated during the bid, he finally called back and confirmed. On Friday we arranged our schedule to accommodate the 1:00 pm appointment. When it got to be 3:00pm, we called and left several messages asking if he was still going to be able to come that day. Dennis finally called us back that evening saying he had been at the hospital all day with his daughter giving birth. Although we didn?t appreciate the fact that he was not courteous enough to call us to let us know he wouldn?t be coming, we gave him the benefit of the doubt and rescheduled for the following Friday. On Thursday it rained a lot. Dennis called on Friday morning and said he didn?t think he could cut the tree down because of all the rain making the tree ?slippery? and dangerous. He said he would wait and see if it was going to dry out enough. He called back later and said he was ?going to err on the side of caution? and not do the job that day, but he would come on Saturday. Couldn?t fault the guy for being safe. On Saturday, he called and said he was on his way. I said it had rained overnight at our house and was wondering if it was still not safe. When he still wanted to come, I said I didn?t think it was a good idea since it was wetter that day than it was the previous day when he said it wasn?t safe. He said okay, and we rescheduled for Sunday at noon. Dennis called us at 11:45am (I had requested him to call when he was on his way) and said he and his crew were going to eat lunch and then they would be out. We waited?.and waited?..and waited. He finally arrived at 2:15pm saying he had had a call from a ?long time customer? requesting a tree be removed from his roof. I acknowledge, they did an okay job even though one of the workers complained as he worked and Dennis chastised him continuously. When they were done, I asked when he would be able to grind the stump. He couldn?t give us a date, because he accumulates several jobs before he rents the grinder. He said I didn?t have to pay anything until the grinding was completed. Needless to say, we weren?t going to ?wait around? for the job to be completed, so I hired another company to remove the stump and mailed Dennis a check for the tree removal only. I don?t appreciate a company who feels their time is more important than mine. Twice (while waiting at the hospital for his daughter to give birth and at lunch when he was going to be late getting to our house) Dennis could have taken two minutes to call us and let us know about the change in his plans.
