Basement Finishing Specialists

I originally called Steve just to get a quote on installing an egress window. Because he is so friendly we began to talk and I asked him to give me a quote on redoing the whole basement. Best decision ever! Steve was so great to work with: his bid came in lower than two other contractors and he basically hit his bid price. Always a hard worker and his finishes were great! Steve was also incredibly friendly (always saying "hi" to our two girls) and awesome to work with. He kept me informed of everything that was going on and would walk me through anything he was doing. He took care of all the paperwork and anything else. I would HIGHLY recommend Steve!

We had a small completely unfinished basement and a lot of requirements! After getting five bids, we decided to work with Steve due to his meticulous attention to detail and it was one of the best home improvement decisions we made. Steve did an amazing job designing & finishing our basement to include everything we wanted - study, den, exercise area, full bath and small wet bar. We had to get some extensive plumbing work done as we had no rough-in. Steve also figured a way for us to move our washer and dryer downstairs. We loved that he was able to include special things like a cozy reading nook for our kids under the stairs. Steve has got a lot of experience with basements, which showed as he had many ideas when we were trying to make decisions. He also pays a lot of attention to safety, which we really appreciated in a house with young kids. The best part for us was that Steve really seemed invested in creating the space we wanted, rather than treating it like another job to finish as quickly as possible.

Steve was absolutely top notch, exceeding our expectations from our initial meeting through the finished product. We interviewed a few companies for the job, talking through the ideas we had developed so far. The others did meet our expectations, walking around the basement with us and chiming in with a few minor tips and cursory measurements by eye. Steve, on the other hand, dove in far deeper, beginning with an off the cuff analysis of the staircase options before we even reached the basement floor. He brought big ideas that hadn't occurred to us, like moving the primary new wall back many feet to contain the staircase within the finished area. After the walk through the basement, Steve sat at our kitchen table with us and drew up the new basement on his pad, using architect's scales. He made many adjustments in real time as we discussed various options. The sophistication and thought Steve brought was so far superior to the others we interviewed that we didn't seriously consider selecting anyone else.   Steve also brought great passion to his work. He made expert recommendations on materials and lighting and flow, and proved to be a skilled woodworker. We had some very specific design ideas about built-in entertainment shelving and kitchenette cabinetry.  He worked with our own sketches to craft custom, real versions of our ideas, with measurements and ratios that really worked in practicality.  Some of our requests may have been outside the scope of the "norm" of typical basement finishing design, but Steve really embraced the challenge, and the outcome did not disappoint.  No corners were cut, from the planning through the finishing, but literally corners were rounded off in consideration of our three small children. We absolutely trust his integrity, with respect to pricing, quality and safe materials, and dedication to and pride in his profession.  During this extensive transformation of space in our home, Steve became almost like a member of our family, and we felt he really had the best interest of our family in the heart of his work at every turn.

Steve did and outstanding job on all of our projects! He was very professional and always had a smile on his face! He is a fantastic finish carpenter and our basement and crown moldings are beautiful. The deck he built for us will withstand many years of traffic as he was so meticulous with measuring everything. I like that he paid attention to every last detail of his work. Our projects ran a wee bit longer than we expected but the results were well worth the extra two weeks! Steve responded quickly whenever we needed him to tweak a few details on our projects and he always made sure that we were happy and satisfied. His prices were in the ballpark with others we found, but I would say that his craftsmanship was far superior. I would highly recommend him for anyone who is currently considering a remodel.

Steve and his crew did an excellent job. They were all very professional and trustworthy. Steve was able to build us a custom reading nook under the stairs just like photographs we presented to him. We would recommend him to anyone looking to finish off their basement area.

The work was performed during the great heat wave. He did the work himself, with one assistant for the landscape and dirt removal. I really appreciated the attention to detail.  Much care was taken to protect ours, and our neighbor's lawn.  He was methodical in his preparations, and used wheelbarrows to remove the dirt to decrease damage to our grass.   He kept us informed of the timeline, delays, and finished the day before he promised.  The work was completed with the least amount of disruption to our daily lives. The finished windows were amazing, and just what we had hoped they would turn out.  When they left, all we had was a bright new space, clean of debris.  They even came back later to power wash the outside of the house.  I would gladly use Basement Finishing Specialists again.

Two years later, we can't say enough good things about our basement and Steve. While the project was underway, we found him to be professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy and extremely detailed-oriented (loved this!) He listened to our ideas, gave great suggestions, and guided us to affordable places as we began to purchase sinks, cabinets, countertops etc. to complete our area. We continue to receive compliments from friends who see the space and several have asked for and contacted Steve because of our basement. We have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our basement and would highly recommend Steve to anyone who is wanting to make wonderful improvements to their basement.
