American Equity Mortgage

At first, the process seemed to be going well. Our original contact at AEM was very professional & prompt, contacting us often to let us know how our refinance was going. We drove an hour to meet, got all of the numbers, signed the paper work and were told that they only needed a couple of more things, which we faxed in promptly. We were promised a 4.75% rate and just a little over $1000 at closing during this meeting. Over the course of the next week, we stopped getting updates, only to find out our contact was out of the office on some sort of medical leave and our case was being given to someone else. I played phone tag with this new contact for a week, then was informed that she was out of the office for the following week on training. When I finally got someone on the phone that could tell me anything, we were told that our promised rate was not locked in, so we were now looking at 5.5% and $1600 at closing. A few days later, we received a letter showing over $2300 at closing. My last contact with them was asking about this $2300 closing fee and I was told they didn't know why it would be $2300, but they would find out and let me know. That was at the beginning of the week around 7/22/13. I still had not heard from them at the end of that week. I called on Friday, 7/26/13 at 2 pm and the office was closed. I left a message and was not called back. I tried calling again today, 7/29/13, only to get directed to another voice mail and have still not received a return call. We have moved on to a new lender after being greatly disappointed in the services promised but not provided by AEM.
