St. Charles K&B (Dave Lawrence) did everything he said that would be done. It went like clock work with no issues at all. He kept us informed every step of the process as to what to do and when things would happen. And it all happened as he said it would from the very beginning. No issues, delays, or surprises.
I heard the neighbors and others horror stories about their kitchen remodels and was very concerned when starting this whole process. However, it could not have been better. I am glad I chose them for the project. In a few days the old was out and the new cabinets and electric work completed. Then there was a 2 week wait for the counter tops. Once they were in it was another couple days to install the backsplash tiles and hook everything up. It is beautiful. Dave's crew was great. Each new what they had to do and did not mess around. You could tell this crew has worked together for some time and they each new what they were doing. That is what you like to see. Stay out of their way because they are professional. They cleaned up every time they were here after work.
So, if you are considering a new kitchen then do yourself a favor and at the least .. talk with Dave and Cindy. They have been doing this for some time now and they know what they are doing.
My thanks to Dave, Cindy and the crew. I love what you have done.
"[member name removed], Thanks for the wonderful review. You guys were great to work with as well. I'll be calling you when things settle down to stop by for some final pics. Dave"
Our experience with St. Charles Kitchen and Bath was excellent, Dave and his crew are punctual, professional and the end result exceeded our expectations. The work they performed was done with minimal disruption, the workmanship is top notch and the communication throughout the process was great.
and the granite is all billed thru St Chas Kitchen & Bath, making it seamless.
You choose your own appliances & are therefore, not limited to specific brands, etc. The appliance cost was separate from the kitchen bid, which I liked. (We found what we wanted & were able to get a discount from the retailer based upon the number of appliances we bought). SCK & B installed all appliances for us.
We chose and purchased our cabinet hardware elsewhere altho' it was available from SCK & B. They installed the hardware.
We chose several types of lighting - recessed, over-cabinet and under-cabinet and pendants. All but the pendants were supplied and installed by SCK & B. (The pendants we chose are still on back order. We paid for those separately from our kitchen installation contract) SCK & B wired for the new pendants & offered to come back and install.
Tile backsplash - With the help of 2 other kitchen and tile designers, we designed a fairly simple travertine tile backsplash from our chosen tile. We purchased all tile, grout, seal, etc on our own (not included in fee we paid SCK & B).
We sketched the design to share with the construction crew. I also took pictures of the tile design we had done at the tile store to give them a better idea of what we had designed.
This was the problem area when working with SCK & B. I would recommend using another company to do tile installation unless, perhaps it is a very simple subway tile type installation. The backsplash makes a huge statement in a kitchen & I was quite disappointed in this part of the project. First I was told the design wouldn't work. The construction "boss" tried to convince me to change the entire design, including the focal point - a "picture frame" type design behind the cooktop. I was unhappy with the result and felt that they had rushed through the tile installation. I asked them to seal the tile, especially the specialty tile, before grouting. I was told it wasn't necessary. It WAS necessary as the grout marred the finish of the specialty tile. In addition several pieces of the "picture frame" were crooked and missing and they had neglected to install the 1" decorative pieces in an entire section of the backsplash.
Ultimately, they returned and re-tiled two areas in question. (I purchased the new specialty tiles). I am now happy with the backsplash focal point behind my cook top and the new tile & with the decorative pieces installed as I had requested in my original design. What marred an otherwise happy outcome was the attitude of the construction crew "boss." He was arrogant and argumentative when we pointed out the tile problem. Understandably, he was defensive. However, I found his behavior to be off-putting and unprofessional, certainly not my view of good customer service. I didn't appreciate him raising his voice and blaming me for his error in tile installation. Dave was a good buffer for him and agreed to come back and re-do the tile. This, of course, caused quite a delay in the completion of the kitchen but we were able to use our kitchen.
Overall, I enjoyed working with Dave & Cindy at SCK & B. The construction crew, overall, is technically proficient. They installed the cabinetry, new electrical wiring & lighting, and appliances, efficiently and cleaned up each day. The job was completed in the number of days Dave told us (with the exception of the tile) and we're happy with our new kitchen.
"It's too bad that this customer would not use us again as 95% of a fairly large project was pulled off without any problems. We received all A's and B's from them but because there was some disagreement on how the tile backsplash was to layout, they will not use us again. My installers spent more that an hour laying out the pattern, drawing it out and as it went in nothing was said about it not being done as per the client request. It was brought to my attention a day or two later that it wasn't right. The drawing the customer used to create the pattern was no longer to be found. Regardless of how it came to be that it was not the right pattern I did what I thought to be the "Right" thing to do and redid the tile work at our expense. Dave and Cindy Laurence, Owners, St. Charles Kitchens and Baths"
"I WAS QUITE SURPRISED TO READ THIS REPORT AS THE MEMBER NEVER EXPRESSED ANY COMPLAINTS TO ME. THIS WAS THE SECOND JOB WE DID FOR THEM SO I WAS EVEN MORE SURPRISED TO READ HER COMMENTS AS I WOULDN'T EXPECT THAT THE PERSON THAT WROTE THIS REPORT WOULD EVER WANT TO BUY FROM US A SECOND TIME. I CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO SATISFY MY CUSTOMERS IF THEY DON'T LET ME KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT SATISFIED."
