About us
Jackson Custom Homes & Remodeling, LLC, has over thirty years of experience providing beautiful custom homes and exceptional home remodeling. Kitchen and Bath Remodeling, Basement Finishes (as seen on HGTV!), Room Additions and amazing Outdoor Living Spaces, along with our own Custom Cabinetry Shop, are our PASSION! We have been the recipient of numerous Homer Awards from the Home Builder's Association of St. Louis for our outstanding quality and craftsmanship in our new homes. We pride ourselves on our many repeat customers, numerous testimonials and referrals. Over 50% of our work comes from past clients, so we do very little advertising! The owner, Frank Jackson, personally goes on every initial appointment. He will evaluate the project, really listen to what you are trying to achieve, and add his own ideas in order to create the best project for the budget that you are trying to adhere to. He will return in several days with professional drawings (if needed) and a "no obligation" detailed estimate. Everyone receives his personal cell phone number and is available for appointments days, evenings and weekends. We also provide professional assistance with the selection of products, design and color choices. Our employees average over 15 years of service with this company. We employee twenty direct employees and if sub-contractors are needed, consumers should know that these sub-contractors have worked with us also on the average of 15 years. We do not leave a job until the consumer is happy. No job is too big or too small. We provide copies of all lien waivers. We are fully licensed and insured. We are proud to say that one of our basements has been featured on HGTV's "More Bang For Your Buck" and one of our bathrooms had a full-page article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch's "At Home" section.

"We are very shocked and saddened by this review. We felt that this bathroom and bedroom remodel went very well. The customer was very happy with the design and color selection help that we provided. We would NEVER use an unlicensed electrician (and the City of St. Peters would never allow it as well!) The dissatisfaction came as a result of our employee mistakenly using the wrong sheen of paint to touch-up the bedroom at the end of the project. He used the eggshell finish instead of the flat finish. We deeply apologized and re-painted the entire bedroom to remedy the situation. It is a shame that this customer did not let us know about any other items that she was unhappy with, because we never leave a project unfinished or a customer unsatisfied. If they would contact us now, we would be happy to address any unresolved issues."
We hired Jackson in March 2015 with the anticipation of starting an 8-10 week project in our basement. Frank helped us refine the plan we had drawn ourselves into a plan that actually worked from given that we have no prior experience but had an idea of what we wanted. Our plans were to finish approximately 1,000 sqft of our 1,250 sqft basement. The basement had nothing but a concrete floor and a laundry hookup. No bathroom rough-in. After drawing the plan, Frank presented us with a detailed proposal and sat down with us face to face to make sure we understood and agreed with every detail. We got a total of four bids and felt most comfortable with Jackson. After signing the contract we went out to their office to work with Mary on making selections. She was very helpful and gave us a list of places to look for the various selections we couldn't find there. Work commenced in late may. About 1 week into the job, we got a call that the permit had been denied due to the requirement of egress window which we had not planned. Since Frank had told us he believed it was unnecessary, he agreed to split the cost with us. That was a huge relief and we were thrilled that he owned that error. No big deal to us. As work progressed, we were continually amazed with the quality of work and how well Frank's crew (Dale and Dennis) were able to make our vision even better than we imagined. Most notably the custom hand made barn doors for the under-the-stairs toy closet. Our second big issue occurred when the tile subcontractor finished our bathroom shower. We were disappointed with the job he had done but before we were even able to say something about, Dale was on the phone with Frank telling him how poor of a job the sub had done. They ripped out the tile, picked up new tile at no cost to me, and made it beautiful. Once again they stepped up huge in the name of getting it right. While it took a little longer than expected, the job finished in early September, about 13 weeks start to finish with 3 weeks delay due to the permit.
Even after completion, Frank and I have stayed in touch and anytime there has been an issue, Frank has sent someone over to fix it. They have gone over and above multiple times. It is because of this dedication to quality that we have recently hired them again to renovate our powder room and install new floors in our entryway and living room and will continue to use them for more projects in the future.
I highly recommend Jackson Custom Homes to anyone looking for a contractor that is honest, reliable, and dedicated to quality.
On February 12, 2016 I started to make phone calls trying to get some estimates to repair damage. My dear handyman had said for the most part the work which was needed was not what he did. I got names of some contractors from Angie's List, and started leaving messages. Due to the number of homeowners affected by the December rain event, I was expecting the worst. I left 6 messages on February 12 ( a Friday.) By Feb. 24 , I had 3 contractors who had come to my home and submitted estimates. Frank Jackson's estimate was in the middle of the pack, and he expressed an understanding of working with insurance companies, which was re-assuring to me. Also his estimate included EVERYTHING and he provided all materials, sparing me the need to run to Lowe's and pick out a floor or bathroom vanity. What if the material I selected was not appropriate or workable? I felt grateful that he did not expect me to try to shop at the hardware store. He knew what materials were needed and that was good enough for me.
I signed the contract March 8, and Frank's men started work March 14.
Right here I have to point out that a lot of the gaps in time between December 28,2015 and March 14, 2016--are due to me or my insurance company dithering. Not once did I feel like Frank was dragging his feet, or neglecting my job. Frank was so kind and re-assuring that I felt he could not have treated me better if I had been family.
On March 14 Frank's man Jacob came to start on my drywall repair and painting. What an exceptional worker, and so considerate and hardworking. Did I mention he did a great job? The same week Jacob was working at my condo, Frank's wife Mary dropped in with some paint chips so we could decide on a paint color for the bedroom. It had been "beige", but we decided if we need to paint, why not put on a pretty color? We decided on a beautiful aqua, which I love. Mary had also helped me decide on the new bathroom vanity. Jackson Custom Homes builds the cabinets on site, so I could have whatever I wanted with no concern for availability or "that's on back-order."
The following week Dennis was with me March 22 and March 23. I thought Jacob was one in a million. Well, Dennis was also one in a million, if that is possible. Dennis tore up my old damaged wood floor in the bedroom and replaced it with a beautiful new laminate floor. Dennis was very personable and gave me many helpful suggestions. He worked so hard I wondered if I ought to give him a note to take home to his wife, to let him rest that evening. Dennis also replaced my damaged bathroom vanity. The vanity Jackson built for me is such a beautiful maple color. I love it. But installing it was not that simple. The existing counter top had to be removed, as well as a large mirror on the wall over the vanity. Dennis had it done very quickly --and done right. It looks wonderful.
Dennis had taken pains to choose woodwork which matched the old woodwork in the hall and bathroom, where only some of the woodwork was being replaced. Other contractors who bid the job expressed doubt that they could find woodwork to match what I already had. With Dennis, the correct woodwork just appeared like magic.
On March 28, Jacob came to paint the woodwork. Unfortunately in the bedroom and bathroom and hall, white woodwork was not going to look good, because the existing painted door frames were already painted a sorta putty color. Jacob just cheerfully hopped in his truck and came back in no time with a can of custom mixed paint which looked really good on the woodwork.
Dennis was back for the last time on April 4. He hung my shelf in the laundry room. In the bathroom he wrapped up with some touch up paint, and installed trim to bridge a gap on the floor between the floor tile and the base of the new vanity.
And just one more task. Frank and I agreed that the roofers sent by the condo association had done a crummy job of dealing with the source of the leak. Even though not part of the agreed scope of work, Frank had Dennis install a "mounting block" (I think) to correctly anchor a light fixture to the vinyl siding on the second floor, outside of a patio door.
Overall I cannot say enough about this company. Frank was always available if I had a question or problem. I was always kept informed of the progress of my job. I felt like what might have been a problem for another contractor, just was not a problem for this company.
Working with them was a positive experience. In January I looked ahead with dread to this whole construction event I knew was necessary. But working with Jackson Custom Homes has been a dream. Frank told me more than once that he wanted me to be happy. His company succeeded.
"We are very confused at this review. This customer purchased a Big Deal for a drawing and estimate for a basement finish; but at our first appointment, we found that she really just needed an estimate for water-proofing a damp basement. We explained to her that we do not normally do that kind of work and referred her to a professional waterproofer in the area that we have used in the past. There was not finish work to bid in her basement. We are very sorry for her confusion."
"We are very sorry that this customer was not happy with results; but we were instructed by her to not remove any existing walls and paneling in this already partially finished basement. She instructed me to bid flooring, a new drop ceiling and a bar in same area where previous bar has existed. Based on this description, there was no reason to re-draw the basement as they were not requested any additional finish. Again, we are very sorry that didn't received any value."
"We can definitely understand the customer's disappointment in the time that it took to complete this room addition. In defense, once they signed there contract, we had a historically wet December which put every exterior contractor behind and we were unable to pour footings until well after the first of the year. This project was definitely not put "on the back burner", since we value each project that we are awarded the same. We strive to provide each client with the highest quality of work and an end result that they will enjoy for many years."
"We apologize that it seemed like it took a little too long to set up our follow-up appointment with this customer to present his drawing and proposal. The original meeting was on December 3rd and our follow-up meeting was December 28th. That is a little longer than we usually take; but with the holidays involved, it took a little longer to get back. Again, we are very sorry that it took too long."
Most contractors probably offer this same level of service for free.
"We are very sorry that this customer was a little disappointed with their drawings and our pricing breakdown that our estimator provided. Their two visits and the drawing was provided by the owner of the company, Frank Jackson, and not by just an estimator. These are the same drawings that we provide all of our customers in addition to two personalized visits and our professional estimate. We understood that this customer wanted to complete this project in stages, and we broke down pricing for their bar area and bathroom separately from the 600 square feet of living space. We truly feel that not too many companies can provide this personal service and drawings from the actual owner. Again, we are very sorry that she was somewhat disappointed, since we do strive to make all of our customers comfortable and happy."
