They did not call me to tell me the surround system was not fixable. I had to call them.

Excellent! The owner, Steve, knows his stuff! He met me personally, explained what he would do and how he charged for his service, and warned me about some of the pitfalls of repairing old equipment, particularly the scarcity of parts for some models, so when one item could not be repaired I wasn't surprised. The surprise was that he did not charge me for the bench time to diagnose the problem! Not only was the repair work finished on time, but he also did an excellent job cleaning 20 years of basement dust off and tuning the internal circuits. Owners like Steve are a vanishing breed.
