On June 10th, he came and knocked on the door. I came around from the back as I could not go out the front door and met him at the entrance of his car. He immediately stated that he was not going to waste my time or his as the insurance company should be doing the grunt work. He did get on the roof, but just stood there talking loudly to me from the roof. My neighbors were watching so I asked him to come down and talk to me. He told me that no one else would give me an estimate and that my insurance company should do that. My insurance company told me that I needed to get 3-4 estimates to turn into them. He was very hurtful as I just need my home to be back in a livable condition after the tornado.
Description of Work: During the tornado, my neighbor's tall oak tree fell and crushed the entire front of my home. There are shingles, gutters, and everything else hanging over my front door. Per police order due to fear of injury or possible death, no one can go in or out of my front door due to the wood and debris.

HORRIBLE, they promised to call at least 24 hours before work began. They didn't. The promised that NO Subcontractors would be used; they lied. The work was substandard and not completed to my satisfaction. The storm damaged happened in April of 2012. They say the work was completed March 2013; but it is not. They are now demanding payment for the work; even though it is not complete or to my satisfacation. Well, Accounts Receiving has started calling wanting final payment. I adivsed the young lady the work was not done, an they would receive NO payment until that time. While one crew showed up to start the siding. They quit after one day. The foreman had to scramble to find a new crew. He hired someone he never met before to complete the work. However, they tore one of the only undamaged screens. They took ti with them said they would have it replaced immediately. NOT! well they lost our screen. a month later and 3 wrong size screens we finally got the screen replaced. Insurance company sent out an inspector before final payment could be issued and, they found a bunch of spots on the siding that needed caulking. But they did release the payment. Brian the manager over the Accounting section personally responded to pick up the check. PLEASE DO NOT USE John Beal, it will save you a headache, I am still not happy with the work that was done and don't trust it will hold up like it should.

Someone else got my business.
Description of Work: To be upfront, I did not purchase services from this company. I called to request an estimate for a complete tear-off and replacement of 22 square roof of my two story home in OFallon, ILr after the April 2012 hailstorm. The woman who answered the phone sounded nice and took my name and number and would have someone call me back on Monday. Seemed odd since it was Friday at 2pm, but whatever. After all, the Cardinals are in town! Monday came and went. So did Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Called them back on the following Monday and asked how long it would be until someone could get out to my house. I was told at least a week. I completely understood that it may take a while for someone to come climb on my roof due to the increase in business due to the hails storm, however, their truck was driving all around my neighborhood each day AND I didn't get a call to even set up an appointment. I figured I shouldn't trust a company that cannot return a call to a potential customer, so I definitly wouldn't want my calls to go without a response if I were a customer and I had a problem with a new roof or siding.

They were prompt in sending someone to do an estimate. He said he would schedule the work in two days because I had a hole in the roof. I had to call twice to get someone out several days after he said they would be here. The crew that did the siding did an ok job. The roofing crew was about 5 hours late and could not speak english. I wanted them to tarp the roof and come back the next day as a thunderstorm was approaching. While I was talking on their cel phone to an enterpreter, some of them started ripping off shingles. I gave up and went in the house. As far as I could tell all they did was put one row of white shingles on my grey roof. I called the next day and talked with the manager, he said he would sent one of their people out to do the job correctly as they wanted me 110% satisfied. This man did not know about the beam repair and just wanted the check. Luckily, the insurance company had not sent it to me yet, so he told me to call the office and explain so he would not get in trouble. To make a long story short, I left messages for just about everyone in the office to try and get this problem solved. The estimator called and said he would come out the next day. He called me about a half hour after he was susposed to be here, said he was sick and would come in two days. Well, he never showed up or called. I finally gave up and decided to wait for them to call me when they never got paid. Nothing happened, no calls, no bills, no nothing. About 2 years later I got a letter from a collection agency. I wrote them a letter explaining everything and the fact that Beal had doubled the bill. Over the next 2 months I got several more letters of an increasingly threating nature. I finally contacted the Missouri Attorney General's website and filled a complaint. They promptly sent me a letter acknowleding my complaint and said to give them about 30 days to resolve erverything. I had stated that I had hired another company to do the work that Beal did not do and that all I wanted from Beal was a letter of appology, an invoice marked paid in full and lein waviers. About a month and a half later I got a letter from the investigator saying Beal had agreed to my request. a few days latter I got the paid invoice, lein waviers and the appology letter from Beal and never heard from the collection agency again.
Description of Work: Part of a neighbors dead tree fell on the back of my house. I had used John Beal about 4 years before and their employees were great, so I decided to use them again to repair the roof and siding on my house. They were to replace all the siding on the back of the house and remove and replace the broken 1 x 6 roof supports (my house is very old and I do not have plywood on the roof to support the shingles) and replace 3 rows of shingles.

They were fine to talk to and seemed to know their business. There was not a problem with them, but we were doing a lot. It took a couple of calls to get a hold of them, but once I got a hold of them they were there. My nephew and brother came over on a weekend and installed the insulation in the walls.

ROOF: The crew replaced the shingles approximately three weeks after I gave the salesman the deposit check. GUTTERING: Approximately two months after the new roof, the guttering was replaced. One of the crewmen noticed a problem with the shingles. I called right away and the supervisor came within a couple of hours, checked out the problem, went to Lowe's and bought the items needed for the repairs and did the repairs. FRONT SIDING: Approximately two months after the guttering, the siding crew showed up. They removed the vertical guttering, light, window shutters, front door shutters and siding. They replaced the siding and left! I thought they had gone to lunch. After two hours, I thought they had one heck of a union to have two hour lunches. After three hours, I started getting nervous. After four hours, I gave up hope. I called the next morning, explained the situation and the following day one of the crewmen came and put the guttering and the light back. No shutters. I was told they were special order and would take another two weeks. After many weeks I finally did get the shutters. WRAP FOR THE BAY WINDOW: The first crew replace the black window wrap. The caulking job was horrible. There was black caulking on the white window frames, the new white siding and windows. Gobs of black cauling were in several places. Over a period of several more weeks, there was probable four or five crews working on the bay window. The wrap did get replaced and the excess caulking was cleaned up. However, with all the cleaning and scraping my original window frames were scratched up. The last crew painted the window frames. I did not think February was a good month for painting, but I was reassured the paint would not peel or flake. ADDITIONAL BID FOR REPLACEMENT OF EXTERIOR DOORS: the salesman told me he would call the next day with a bid. Since he did not call me, I called him. I left a message on his voice mail. He did call me back but did not leave me a message. Since that time, I have called him many times (also left messages at the office). I have never talked to the man since the day I gave him my deposit check. After many many phone calls (most of which were not returned even though the voice main says calls would be returned within twenty-four hours) and eight months (almost to the day) the work is done. Many companies were in my neighborhood working on hail damaged homes. Most of the jobs were completed within three days.
Description of Work: We had severe hail damage. The roof, guttering, siding on the front of the house and window wrap for the bay window needed to be replaced. Also asked for additional bid on replacement of exterior doors--not related to hail damage.

We had a leak in the front foyer. the guy who worked on the job obviously was not well trained. He could not identify where the leak was and did a lot of guess work. So the leak was not fixed. Even worse new leak beyond the front foyer appeared after the first fix. John Beal then sent a so-called specialist who told us to replace some vents in the kitchen which at the time had no existing leak but could have potential problem. We went with their plan. After the second fix, new leak appeared in the kitchen. Eventually they sent another group to redo all the work. and I had to keep paying for something they claimed to be new. They never take care of the water marks like they said they would. And they damaged one light fixture during the work. It too several months for them to eventually get done. Horrible and stressful experience. Very dishonest people. We learned a lesson. Don't trust the advertisement! and AVOID JOHN BEAL.

Dealing with this company is horrible. All the work has finally been completed but not without lots of angry phone calls from me. They have been completely unresponsive! They rarely called me when they said they would and when they did call they called the wrong number despite being given the correct number several times. And now just when I thought I was finally finished with them I get a mechanics lien notice in the mail today. They haven't paid for the roof materials. I called them and can't get past the receptionist because she says everyone is in a meeting. She told me to disregard the notice! To start with I specifically asked that I be called on my cell phone a week in advance of the roof work being done so that I could schedule the sattelite dish to be reinstalled. They called my husband, not me, the day before they came out for the roof work. Luckily I was able to scramble and get the dish people out that day as well. By the way, the roofers were very unprofessional. They were walking on my plants and when I asked the to not walk on them they just looked at me. I don't think they spoke English. Then their wives came to the house and started cleaning up after them while their children ran around the yard. I complained the salesman and he promised I'd be called before they came to do the siding. I was not called - just came home to supplies laying in the driveway. The siding people were very nice and neat and did a good job. Although it took them 4 days to complete it when we were told it would be 2 days. The gutters went on without a problem but I really had to fight to get them to schedule getting the deck repair finished. The General Manager even said to me one day that he would "call me that afternoon" with a resolution to the situation. No call. The carpenter finally came out and made the repairs and we were not happy with them. The next day the painter came out, saw the carpentry job and agreed that it was bad. He redid it himself before painting. I will never use this company for anything ever again!
Description of Work: We had storm damage from April 2012 and contracted this company in June 2012 to replace the roof, siding, gutters and repair the damage to the deck.

He didn’t even bring a ladder when he arrived for the estimate. They tried to get me to sign a contract when they hadn’t even got on top of the roof yet. They were very pushy. I refused to sign the contract and never received a full estimate or had the work done with them.

It is unfortunate that I have to write an unsatisfactory report about a vendor that I have use before with good success. John Beal Roofing installed an architectural shingle roof with a ridge vent and a flat rubber roof on my house. The first big rain, 7 September 2012, water could be heard running in the walls. The furnace stack was not sealed and the water was pouring into the attic and down the walls into the basement. I called John Beal Roofing and a technician arrived two hours later to evaluate the leak. He looked in the attic and could not believe the amount of water that came in. He also noticed where the old roof vents were, the holes in the plywood sheeting were not replaced with new sheeting or repaired. You can clearly see the black roofing paper through the holes. I expected someone from John Beal Roofing to call on Monday morning to follow up. No, I had to call and email Monday afternoon to get someone to call me Tuesday. Brian Acorn called Tuesday and reassured me someone would be out to fix the problem. 6 days went by, a total of 10 days since the leak, and no one had called to arrange an appointment or arrived to make repairs. Monday morning, I start again calling John Beal Roofing try to communicate with Brian Acorn. I learn Brian Acorn is longer the production manager for your area; John Burs is now your production manager. John was kind enough to call back, ?I will have someone contact you and fix the problem?. A young man named Eric will be out Wednesday evening, day 12, to see what could be done. I will continue to update this review as things progress or do not progress. There are issues with the rubber roof that are also unresolved. Bottom line: If you have a choice, do not use John Beal Roofing, as they are non-responsive to a customer?s need and the quality of workmanship is unsatisfactory.
Description of Work: Remove shingle roof and roof vents and replace with architectural shingles and ridge vent. Clean gutters and install leaf gaurd screens. Remove rubber roof and install new rubber roof.

The appointment was suppose to be Saturday at 9am, they called during the week to push the time back to 10am. Today the day of the appointment they call 1 hour before the appointment and said they wouldn't make it, he was out of town. He said he could maybe make it tomorrow (Sunday). Needless to say we want nothing to do with this company, if they run their appointments this way, why would we trust them to do our roof?

I got the contract in June, but they didn't get to the job done until September. Everyone at the company was quiting, which is probably why it took so long to get my roof done. They told me the salesman quit and didn't turn my order in. They got the roof done in a few hours. The roof looks nice, and they did a good job. I don't have any leaks.

The estimator for John Beal was very prompt. He immediately noticed damage to the roof while he was still on the ladder. We also asked him to check our siding. He told us he found some damaged window screens while looking at the siding. He walked around to the driveway and asked if we wanted new siding as well. We told him if it was damaged we wanted it reported so it could be replaced. He then pulled one of our old shingles off the side of the house and threw it on the driveway and said he would write it up in the estimate that there was siding damage. He also wanted to take the damaged screens with him so we could not replace them on our own. We told him no. We told the insurance adjustor about the siding incident. He confirmed there was sufficient damage to replace the roof. John Beal representatives told us it would be 6 to 8 weeks before they could get to our house due to a heavy volume of damaged homes. We waited 8 weeks and called them back. We were told a crew would be there that Thursday to deliver the supplies and another crew would arrive Friday to do the roof so I went onto the roof and removed the satellite dish so we would not be charged for the removal. When I arrived home from work Thursday nobody was at my house. I called and I was told that the materials supplier could deliver as late as 7 and we were still scheduled for Friday. We did not get any supplies Thursday and nobody showed up Friday either. I called Friday and I was told it would be at least 2 more weeks at best because the supplies were not even ordered for our job yet. I asked why we were told 3 times that we were scheduled for roof replacement if the supplies were not ordered. I was speaking to the same woman that confirmed my appointment the day before. She said there was nothing she could do since everyone was out of the office for the weekend already. I told her if there was not a crew at my house Monday I was going to hire another company to do the job and they could refund my deposit. I received a call Monday morning from John Beal company telling me we were going to have our roof replaced Tuesday. The roofing materials were at my home when I arrived after work Monday evening. The crew did a great job at everything except cleanup. We found quite a few nails and pieces of old shingles in our yard. The roof does not leak and it looks great and that is the bright spot in my experience. I guess having a dry home is the important thing.

Leaked at repair site 14 months later. Called back and was told the repair was all wrong who would do this. Response was your company did this. Oh, well sorry this is not covered as it has been more than 12 months. Also told we need a new roof and will come at the end of winter and report it to insurance as winter damage and it will be covered. Yeah except that is FRAUD and ILLEGAL. I would NEVER use them again and am contemplating turning them into the insurance commission.

They did this on one of my rental property. I was very satisfied with the work and they came out in a timely manner. The price was pretty good, since it was a rental property; I chose a comfortable range of price, amongst all the price ranges. The home owner was very pleased with the job. The responsiveness was very good. I called them, they came and they gave me an estimate, after which I chose them for the job and the final price was exactly the same as the estimate. They came when they said they would come and the tenants said they were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. I will definitely use them in future.

Had I not checked into the work I would have never known the work was not completed. I loss faith in this company because of this situation. I believe the situation was unethical. Once the manager found out what was wrong he did respond. It was an unfortunate situation.
Description of Work: I had water coming down into my living room. I contacted John Beal Roofing Inc to repair the flashing on my chimney. They came out and gave me an estimate including a long list of things that they were going to do for me. They were at my home for a very short period time so I decided to look into the work that they had completed. I had roofer and a construction company come look at the work. The roofer let me know that they had caulk the area and change a few of the flashing and roofing tiles. In no way did they do what was on the contract. They did not do the work that they had billed me for. I called to talk about the unfinished business. They agreed to come out to look at the work. After assessing the work they agreed it was not complete. They said they had sent someone over that was not qualified to do the job and they would never let that happen again. A couple weeks later they sent a man to work on the chimney. The chimney man completed the work and did it correctly.

My daughter is having a big problem with him right now. He’s on Angie’s List. She’s looked at the roof and it was really bad so she had to call him multiple times. The guy that came out couldn’t check because he hadn’t brought his ladder. He finally came out with a ladder several days later. There’s a big disagreement because the roof looks really bad. They use a crew that only speaks Spanish and they were not able to communicate throughout the day as to what was going on. Their price was average and that’s why she chose to use them. The quality of work is the worst. Their responsiveness is really bad. They didn’t get back on time. They were not professional as they never responded at all. We would never use them again in the future. She wrote a letter to them on the 26th of September asking him to e-mail and she hasn’t heard back.

It went very well. Before I signed the contract they said it would be six-eight weeks before they could do the job which was fine since the job was not an emergency, just replacing old shingles. They called at the seven week point and said they would start the job in tow days - which they did. It was a very big job, which they completed very professionally. They are more expensive than other roofers, but offer a lifetime guarantee which I think is important. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: Removed old roof, replaced new roof, replaced flashing around two chimneys, installed new ridge vent system along entire roof.

We didn't like him at all. He over-charged. The work was not done very well. He quoted a price then once they got there, he tried double the price.
Description of Work: I hired him for tuckpointing.

Based on the problems I have had with my gutters this year, it seems like he didn't do a very thorough job. He was in a hurry for me to sign a contract, I could tell something was wrong at that point.
Description of Work: He supposedly cleaned out the gutters and reattached a downspout.
